humble and loving embrace of nostalgia
(panting) okay, finally finishing all my reviews of the first Shalini collection with this last one.
from what I've been gathering, it seems that this fragrance either is just good/okay, or it is extremely evocative and shines brightly for those who have a specific connection with the ingredients. I am in the latter of those categories.
this reminds me of the thyme (HAhah) I started to learn to cook when I was around 14 years old. it was a very emotional time for me because I felt as if my world were falling apart during those years, but learning to cook and follow recipes online gave me a lot of optimism and hope in my self-empowerment. I would make foods from all kinds of cultures and bake desserts using all kinds of spices and herbs. sniffing this feels like the first time discovering all these different ways of connecting with the outside world and growing up, in a sense.
this perfume is very interesting in that it doesn't really smell like a perfume; it smells more like a very smooth blend of essential oils. the opening is intoxicatingly juicy (orange blossom?) and smooths out with a heartwarming sweetness that beckons the past. the olive wood adds a bit of depth that holds it all together like an aged photograph. sunshine radiates from the skin. it's very therapeutic, in more ways than one, to wear this scent. more than once I have heard this fragrance to smell wonderful by people who professed to dislike lavender.
this could be a signature or everyday scent for me. it's super unique yet wearable and unassuming, but it can be powerful for those who "get it."
