The problem with the attitude of expectation...
The Nose Behind has been a household name for me since the beginning of my fragrance journey. However, I never got around to testing any of the fragrances. A blind buy was too "risky" for me due to the controversial reviews of these fragrances. In the meantime, I think that many of these negative reviews are due to the sometimes high expectations (e.g. Miami South Beach would be the further development of Naxos). In general, I can't say which of TNB's other fragrances fulfill expectations and which don't, but I know that too many "expectations" and "promises" in advance can cloud the first impression of the fragrance. When I saw on the homepage that there was a new fragrance called Marrakech, my interest in the brand was immediately reawakened. The fragrance pyramid finally convinced me to buy it for Black Friday. The nice thing was that this time there was no big promotion for the fragrance.

The fragrance starts quite fresh for me. What you immediately notice is the mint paired with the beautiful orange, whereby the mint is very dominant. Relatively quickly, the spicy notes and the cinnamon set in. I can't tell which spices they are, but it doesn't really matter because it's just a pleasant spicy note that is nicely accompanied by the cinnamon. Over time, the orange-mint combination recedes into the background and remains just a quiet companion until the drydown. In the drydown, the vanilla comes to the fore together with the tonka bean, but not too overloaded, but rather soft and calm. Until the end, you have a beautiful vanilla-tonka spice blend that occasionally hints at the beautiful top notes. For me, this is a very interesting fragrance that I have never experienced before. I can't say too much about the performance because 1. I have skin that is difficult for fragrances and 2. I think that fragrances mature over time. An evaluation will follow in the future.

Finally, I would like to say that I think the fragrance is simply very good in terms of its DNA and quality, especially for the price. It is also great for niche beginners because it is niche enough to stand out from the designers but still remains pleasing. All in all, I am very satisfied and will definitely be testing other fragrances from this house.

Thanks for reading :)

Perplexity
Having become curious about the fragrance pyramid, I recently bought a bottle of Marrakech. The fragrance notes and the name of the perfume sounded very promising to me.

At the beginning you are almost overwhelmed by the mint, the orange hardly stands a chance against it. It wouldn't be so bad if this mint didn't somehow have an extremely musty coriander note for me. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced by the opening, although I do have a certain affinity for unusual perfumes otherwise.

After about half an hour, the mint-coriander spook is over and a rather pleasant, soft tonka-vanilla-spice fragrance develops. Quite pleasant, slightly sweet, nice and soft, but really nothing special. After such a completely headstrong start, I would have liked a few more rough edges in the further course of the fragrance. But well, at least the fragrance is quite nice now.

For a short time at least. Because after about 1 hour, maximum 1.5 hours, there is no longer any scent of the perfume on my skin. It is gone. And I didn't exactly spray it on sparingly. I think it's definitely too weak and it leaves me feeling rather disappointed or even perplexed.

Marrakech and I, we're probably not going to be friends...

Marrakech as a scented candle from FlyingTiger
I visited Morocco this year in May. Take a look at my review of № 02 - L'Air du Désert Marocain Eau de Toilette Intense. For me, the absolute blueprint in terms of olfactory interpretation of this wonderful city.

Let's move on to Herbert Stricker's interpretation and a little spoiler, it can't compete with Tauer's.

The fragrance starts with a very fresh, real mint and orange. This is also the most exciting thing about the fragrance. It has something of Japanese medicinal plant oil. Shortly afterwards, the spices are added. It is not necessarily possible to interpret them individually, but cinnamon comes out most clearly. At this stage, the fragrance really smells like a Christmas scented candle. Not a great high-quality candle, more like one from FlyingTiger or NanuNana. What a shame.

Little here reminds me of the spice souks in Morocco. Only in the drydown does it come back in that direction, the woods then come out better. What I completely miss is the florality. Cistus, oleander, daisies, all that is missing.

The tonka, vanilla, musk combination that we have smelled so often remains in the base.

Not a bad perfume overall, not at all. The opening in particular is creative, but the theme is missed.

Longevity is great, the fragrance stays on the skin for 8-10 hours. Sillage is okay, not a room filler, but a nice cloud.

Freshness for the winter
After a bit of searching, I came across this interesting fragrance. The scent pyramid immediately appealed to me and I went to my trusted perfumery, where I knew this fragrance was available, and tried it out.

When I first encountered this fragrance, the mint almost completely overwhelmed me... I was also expecting a pleasant orange note... Fortunately, the mint disappeared quite quickly and the wonderfully combined spices of the perfume came through.

After a short test phase, I have to admit that I really liked this fragrance. Overall, the fragrance has great notes for winter and is not too overpowering. I really fell in love with the mint, which was off-putting at first, but when sprayed on it gives the fragrance a freshness that is great for starting the day. The sillage of the fragrance is not too present, which is why Marrakech is good for everyday use. I also manage to smell the orange note a little more each time.

I can't argue with the short-lived durability of the fragrance on my skin, the scent lasts practically all day on clothes, even several days.

I have to say that this fragrance has convinced me and TNB has created a harmonious overall picture that stands out in a special way.

Special mint-orange opening followed by winter vibes
The Marrakech has a very special opening.
The Nose Behind has one or two fragrances that are a little more special in the opening.
Kobe Gardens, for example, comes to mind as being relatively "similar".

The Marrakech starts with this not too common mint-orange mix. Although I have to say that the mint is the stronger part. Nevertheless, the orange also comes out well.

After half an hour at the latest, this mix recedes as far as possible and it becomes spicier. Various spices, including cinnamon, become more present. However, the cinnamon is not overwhelming, but used subtly.

As soon as this spicy phase passes, the fragrance moves into a classic tonka bean-vanilla base that is familiar from so many fragrances. Light woody notes can also be detected.

Last but not least, I come to the performance. Most of the time, The Nose Behind fragrances don't last very long on me. Somehow this brand doesn't want to work on my skin. At least that's my impression.
The Marrakech unfortunately falls into this pattern again.
Although it feels like it lasts longer than one or two others, it quickly becomes very close to my skin and is only slightly to barely perceptible. Too bad.
