Afrikaan Musky darkness
This perfume is very animalistic, musky, and dirty.
I was actually in Africa in 2015 (Uganda), and I was on a safari, and this perfume smells exactly like if you were walking around on an open savanna.
It’s very feral, and I'd say dark too, because of how animalistic it is.
I really like this one; it’s very unique and quite beautiful, and it captures the African wild landscape and nature perfectly.

Update:
Tested Afrikaan Musk, today aswell.
It’s soooo dirty, the opening is an intense fur bomb, it’s like standing next to lions in their environment on the savanna. But after awhile the Pinot Gris and Cassie Flower comes out, very beautiful, while still being quite dominant in the animalics/Hyraceum

After testing over 300 niche/indie perfumes, this one is probably the most animalistic perfume i’ve ever tried personally, and own. The quality is absolutely insane aswell, it’s definitely a must have for people that love animalistic perfumes.

I will say this though, it’s probably verrry hard to wear around people, because of it being so feral and dirty.

The Shocking Part Two
The tragedy of an enfant terrible lies in the fact that eventually, the provocations turn into the established norm.
A prime example might be the daring provocations of Jean Paul Gaultier from the 1980s and early 1990s. Would anyone still consider that shocking today?

Well, the present fragrance from the African line of the brand was supposed to cause a stir with all its animalistic notes.
Unfortunately, not for me.

And slowly, I am deciphering the handwriting of Mr. Bodin.

Hiss!

To make it short, the greeting of civet and co. may be quite shocking for inexperienced noses. However, if you have smelled these ingredients skillfully used in great creations over the years, you tend to look upon this with a pitying glance.

Shocking?

I get to smell fur and some dried excretions from little animals.

It smells like an animal enclosure at the zoo; some pet shops offer this scent as well.

And for nature lovers, just take a trip to the northern German heath and observe the rabbits doing their business amidst the blueberry fields. A bit unappetizing, but just about bearable in terms of quantity.
A small challenge in terms of sustainability and ecology.

Alright, alright, the scent development is abruptly torn apart by an extremely high pitch.

Gurjun balsam is listed.
Floral, woody, ethereal, so far, so good.
In fact, that piercing ethereal note is the signature of the fragrance creator; I have smelled it in other creations of his as well.

Perhaps he overdrives the concentration, perhaps he adds other supporters like currant and honey, all just vague assumptions.

This glaring note also simulates a certain closeness to urine, but not necessarily.
The metallic aspect hurts the nose; I have to keep a certain distance from the spray point.
After too long and intense smelling, I actually get a headache.
So, less and further away is more.

If the merciless sun of Africa was interpreted, then it has succeeded.

But now it gets strange.

A cascade of violet flowers references quite old chypre fragrances, especially from Caron and Guerlain.

Lilac, a bit of iris, perhaps violet, a hint of hyacinth.

Great bouquet, but unfortunately overshadowed by the ethereal, so that inevitably a tilted note dampens the mood.

What really surprises me is the white wine note in connection with the honey.
It smells like the ancient Roman comfort drink for the melancholic, the mulsum.
Roman, please, and not to be understood as Muslim.

Should the African musk therefore thrive in the vineyards of South Africa?

Well then, cheers!

Now, in order.

The animalic notes disappear in their intensity the fastest, but linger lightly in the air and seem harmless like in a hamster cage.

Soon, the flowers lose their splendor and wilt quickly. Their departure is truly to be regretted.

What remains is the mulsum and the ethereal, which becomes drier and drier.

The longevity is far weaker than in other creations of the brand, just like the projection.

All in all, while Musk Vernaculaire fascinated me with its terrifying consequence and relentlessness, Afrikaan Musk drifts into the well-known and rehearsed sequel of a shocker.

Somehow, you have smelled it before, somehow it’s not that bad, somehow the air is out, but you still put yourself through it.

Other noses liked the fragrance much better; so be it.

As for me, I am not exactly eager to wear this virtual safari around my neck.

For all the others (thanks to the internet translation from German to Afrikaans):

The Earth Was So Beautiful
Two million years ago
when the jungle was still alive
there were also giant beavers that had always been there, fat, large, and full of fur, 3 meters tall and not fast at all. Civets are still inferior to hyenas, they roam through the grass, find baboon carcasses, but in the rain that briefly falls, a strange green emerges over the murky, held by elephants, tigers, and co. Those who like it here enjoy going to the zoo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So for me, first a neglected baboon enclosure with a cellar patch, then follows oh dear, I've never experienced Zibi like this before, I hardly recognize him, he's peed in a corner and hasn't been in the tub for 4 weeks and just came from a beaver
who leathered everything away, Hyraceum also animalistic, spicy, tobacco-like, adds another layer
it's all about musk here, reminds me of Deer Musk Signature from the Sultan, plus vintage cellar patch, endless pee, white wine, more like sparkling wine
it becomes more balsamic, yes, he calms down slowly but remains animalistically wild, that's all I can perceive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Caution! gourmand excrement's only pure musk and animals, (A.d.v)
Jimmy really knocked it out of the park. Africa!!! and you are
right in the middle, beaver ultra strong
wearing a tarred leather jacket, civet is
terribly annoyed and has wet fur, Dodo musk is also present
pure nature, I believe you can't capture
the prehistoric savannah better than this.
I think it's great, I also notice amber in the dry down, well done!!!
after 3 hours it's close to the skin but remains
forever on the skin
Thank you 92deg for the nice sharing :)

Tame musk, waxy and somewhat earthy. If this is Hyraceum in a spotlight, then just cancel the show

This is hot, dry, and definitely fecal. Smells like waxy matted fur that’s been saturated with old dried fecal matter. Turns into mad honey

Straight up smells like a zoo enclosure, incredibly fecal, feral animal in the wild and wet muddy animal fur.

Imagine walking through a barnyardy, with everything from the cows to honey bees. This smells like that to me. Sweet, resinous, animalic

A sweet and animalic musk. The honey and the balsam makes it stand out for sure. Absolutely lovely

There's an ad: "I got the job!"
For the outdated: just spray a tilted Caron on a letterhead from the pet shop. Grandma gets it. *

Personally, it's too fecal-romantic for me, authentic animalic, especially civet + a bit of hyraceum, only for enthusiasts.
