A perfume Addict’s Diary 04: April

A perfume Addict’s Diary 04: April

As the month of April is coming to an end, it’s time for a new reflection on what the hell just happened in the past few weeks. No TLDR this time, I’ll keep it short, I promise 😁

Remember last time, when I kept myself from buying Pour Un Homme de Caron (2022) Parfum? 10 points if you know what happened: I bought it. No regrets. I use it a lot. It’s a classic. It’s got a good price as well. As I spray it I’m not like “there goes another 5 bucks”

I almost bought it at the store where I regularly take a sniff of all their beautiful perfumes. But online was a couple of tenners cheaper. Do you also feel that sometimes you almost feel obligated to buy something somewhere because you visit often?

I could sell a couple of my old video games to finance quite an extensive set of Xerjoff samples. Nice to finally smell some of their iconic perfumes. Now I know what the fuss is about. Or not. Takeaway note to self: with every discovery set there are a couple of contenders to land on my wishlist. And this was no exception. Later more on that.

I was able to exchange my Emporio Armani - Stronger With You Tobacco with some pretty nice Guerlains. Am I finally getting satisfied? Not yet, but I’m getting there. However, these Guerlain flankers gave me the FOMO as there appears to be a limited edition Habit Rouge Spirit of which I’m very curious now. Also I gave away my Phantom to a very happy nephew. Feels good to groom the collection a bit like this.

The sun keeps on shining brighter, in Dutch we say we have the “lentekriebels”, the spring-itch. Somehow I’m thinking forward to summer. Which perfumes to wear? I’ve got a couple of basic frags but I want something more refined. In "Uden | XerJoff", one of the Xerjoff samples I ordered, I find big love. There was also "Nio | XerJoff" in the set which was even fresher but I wasn’t smitten. After a couple of days I saw it online at a good price, I bit the bullet and ordered it (it’s still being processed grrrr). It scratches my Layton itch and it scratches my "Casamorati - Lira (Eau de Parfum) | XerJoff" itch, those two were high up on the wishlist but not anymore. So basically it’s an economic decision hehehe. I also sold a couple of misbuys like Lalique White in Black so it felt okay.

And last but not least there was the news that Aramis Eau de Toilette is discontinued. Never smelled that old classic. And it’s cheap as chips. So I gave in to FOMO and that one’s also in the grandpa juice collection now.

Soooo I bought more than one this month, and I did a blind buy. That’s two of my own rules I broke. But at that price and that quality I guess it’s okay for now. I’m feeling pretty content with what I have so hopefully May will be a quiet month! 🤞

I just read all of your Perfume Addict blogs. Fun reads!! I'm laughing and remembering reading in the Shout-Outs about your mental battles on whether to buy full bottles or not 😂.

I'm there with you. It can be a real addiction. You're good at setting rules and limiting yourself.

Hehe yeah the hobby is so much fun, and addictive! In hindsight I’m actually pretty glad I didn’t buy some of the stuff I was craving earlier.

If you ever want a "quiet month", you need to stay away from the Shout-Outs 🤣... Every day I'm adding at least 5-10 onto my Watch list....

@Ceesie this was such an entertaining read! Keep it like this and be spontaneous about fragrances and life in general. Aramis edt discontinued? We must buy last bottles! That means no Aramis anymore, grrr Coty! I am glad you enjoy Caron pour un homme de Caron. Check for Guerlain vetiver and Guerlain Heritage. I absolutely know what you mean when you say you feel obliged to purchase a fragrance on a page you visited many times. I am afraid every collector has this syndrome. With me it is usually discontinued bottles. I have a bookmark which is my notes on Viber and keep seeing these gems and have to make up which one to buy. Obviously I can't buy them all.Now it's either a Bottega Veneta pour homme, a bit used or a completely full opium edt from the nineties.

So glad to read another post from you again @Ceesie !
Sounds like some great finds, and sometimes rules are meant to be broken.
It's okay, we don't judge - we will always enable you here! 😂

Oh that’s too bad @Smirky. I was once in this big city with some fantastic perfumeries too. I was with a friend who has nothing with that. Ah well…

@Ceesie Chicago was great visiting relatives and friends. BUT it was a flop when it came to fragrances. I wasn't actually in Chicago but about 1.5 hours west. Never got a chance to visit the outlet mall which had 3 or 4 perfume outlet stores. :-(

Yaaaay, happy to read you!! Well that sounds like a good month to me 🤩 I hear that you’ve broken your rules, but you also sold or gave away fumes that you didn’t like anymore, so that balances things a bit! I’m actually about to do the same; I already have fancy photos to post on our local selling website. I might also start a diary too, I like the idea of tracking my journey! Would you be ok if I ‘stole’ your idea?
Take care and thanks @Ceesie !!!

@Ceesie but you know, I don’t see you regretting this decision! You really loved it, and you went for it, I don’t see why not!!

@Longevity oh yeah that third one was one I had in mind too. So I broke three rules 😆 Ah well the Uden sample is now finished anyway.

@Ceesie nice, thanks!! My rules are i), no blind buy, ii) discounted, and iii) no impulsive buy (i.e., buy only if the sample is finished and I wish it wasn’t). I guess I’m trying to curate a collection of only the ones I really love, nothing below that!

Of course not! I’d love to read about it! Do you have certain rules for yourself, either written or unwritten?
