Discovery Sets: 27 87 Perfumes
This house of 27 87 Perfumes is one that stands out by its minimalist style. I’d often overlooked it in the store where they sell it but this month I decided to give them a try. Smelling two or three different bottles they struck me as interesting enough to justify buying a discovery set.

The brand has pristine white bottles with here and there an exception (black bottle, transparent bottle). All in all very sober. The discovery set is very much in line with that style. It’s a nice white box with all 10 fragrances in lavish 2ml sprayers. I must admit that the sprayers are quite miserable. The atomiser is located very tight at the top of the sprayer if that makes sense. So when you spray, you’ll have some liquid on your hands guaranteed.

After having looked at their website and having tested a couple of perfumes I thought I knew what the brand was all about. There’s an obvious DNA going on in all of their fragrances. They do have all these “lines”, but there’s definitely a sibling note in all of the scents that you can detect with an occasional surprise here and there.
This sibling note I’d like to describe as airy watery green. Almost like the smell of cucumber but more abstract and less gourmand vegetable. So I’d like to split the perfumes into two parts myself: the one with that common note and one more adventurous.

Let’s start with the watery stuff:Sónar : Earthy watery, tuberose dry down
Wandervogel : Green pond water with mint
Per Sē : Fresh laundry synthetic with a touch of greenness
Flâneur : Tea with a little bit of anise
Hamaca : Cucumber melon coconut
Elixir de Bombe : Sunscreen
These are all very relaxing scents. The one that stands out (in a bad way alas) is Wandervogel. That one is just too pungently green. Here the creators have taken that common DNA to the maximum, which is too much for me. And the mint note just makes it very weird and synthetic as opposed to that natural smell it’s supposed to smell like. It reminded me of Patchouly Magnetik a littlebit smell-wise. Not as powerful though, not in a long shot. The one that stands out in a good way is Hamaca. A littlebit of sweetness, a littlebit of creaminess. The only one I’d find full bottle worthy just because the smell is so special.
And the “wild” stuff:
#Hashtag : churchy
Genetic Bliss : Sandalwood
Rule of 72 : Leather suede long lasting but skin scent
Mosaïque : Fruity leathery
I was told that #hashtag would smell like a brand new Apple Laptop. Well it doesn’t. It has a good dose of frankincense so it smells like a church on a Sunday morning. Not bad at all but it doesn’t really fit the modern name with the hashtag and all, am I right? Then there’s Genetic Bliss, which is quite woody. I’ve smelled so many Sandalwood fragrances that it starts to bore me. It’s meant to adapt to a body’s unique natural scent. Reminds me of some Molecule formula that’s a bit too vague for me. Rule of 72 is quite nice with its leather accord and saffron and incense drydown. Not too obtrusive and not too overpowering. And then my absolute favorite of the house: Mosaique. A fruity leathery bomb of goodness. A bit of tobacco smokiness and this beautiful subtle leather. I was not expecting that! I haven’t worn it enough to warrant a review just yet but I’m pretty excited about it.
So there you have it. A perfume house I totally ignored once. I wasn’t too sure about it when I wore the first couple of watery perfumes but now I do have a couple of potential full bottles on my wish list. Hope you enjoyed this and that it sparked some interest. The average scores on some of these fragrances are way too low so I’m rooting for them to get some more enthusiasts aboard.
