Take a deep breath in the urban jungle
In December last year, an absolute dream came true for me and I traveled to New York for the first time. This city had been a place of longing for me for an incredibly long time, with its many great museums, Broadway, architecture...so it was all the more important for me to bring back a fragrance from there that would always remind me of this time.
New York even exceeded my expectations, I found it much cleaner and less smelly than expected and was infected with the New York fever so that I am already dreaming of returning one spring to see all the other great places this city has to offer.
"The city that never sleeps", as the Big Apple is also known. And I can confirm that, everywhere is vibrant with life and a very special atmosphere buzzes through the air. In Times Square, you are almost visually overwhelmed by the changing neon signs and in some streets you are simply swallowed up by the crowd and carried along with the flow. And although it's loud and bright and just "a lot", I loved every minute of it.
There are also places away from Times Square and Fifth Avenue, neighborhoods like Greenwich or SoHO, where you can let yourself drift through and fantasize about what it would be like to live here permanently. And for me, "Father Figure | Phlur" conveys this more relaxed side of New York perfectly. The fragrance opens with the eponymous fig, very creamy and with delicate green speckles, but a sweet, dense iris quickly takes over. This is minimally powdery, but really only very delicate, like pralines covered in a thin layer of powdered sugar. Vanilla is also mixed in, enhancing the sweetness even further. Patchouli is present, but is completely hidden from my nose. From start to finish, the fragrance resembles a thick, fluffy blanket or even a dessert with a thick layer of cream. There is nothing light about the fragrance for me, it is incredibly dense in my nose and not very permeable, but envelops you like a cocoon.
And this is where my New York adventure comes full circle, because in this lively, sometimes overwhelming city, "Father Figure | Phlur" is the little piece of relaxation you need before you plunge back into the hustle and bustle of the big city. Once I take a deep breath, I immediately feel grounded and almost a little "zen". The fragrance is not particularly complex, but it doesn't always have to be, sometimes it's enough to focus on the essentials and simply convey a good feeling - and that's what "Father Figure | Phlur" does.
In any case, I'm very happy with my vacation souvenir and when I spray it on now, I take a deep breath, close my eyes and catapult myself back to the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and the MoMa, depending on what I'm in the mood for...

The tiresome misleading naming...again!
Full of joy I stormed today the Jo Malone counter in Oberpollinger to see if the Christmas collection would already be there and tada, I was lucky. So beautiful first sprayed on paper (after some first tests gone wrong directly on the skin, where I found the scent quite horrible and no longer washed off ( "e'L | Zarkoperfume", I'm looking at you), I've learned) and found good, so that he was allowed to wander directly on the wrist.
I am a lover of citrusy notes and the tangerine at the beginning is really quite wonderful. Fruity, tangy, minimally bitter (probably the peel), I am very taken. The fragrance could happily stay like this for a bit longer, unfortunately the top note disappears after half an hour. And then the fragrance takes a direction that doesn't suit me so much. Instead of the expected honey, wood emerges, which seems very dry. There is no hint of sticky bee nectar, even the tonka bean remains hidden from my nose. There's nothing sweet here at all, but rather minimal spice. A bit reminds me the fragrance here of "Saffron | Jo Malone". Not bad at all, but the name once again doesn't match what's on offer. I was expecting a Christmas sweet scent to accompany me under the Christmas tree, but that's not what "Starlit Mandarin & Honey | Jo Malone" is for me. I'm almost annoyed that here again something is suggested in the title, which is then not kept. The naming of some perfumes reminds me almost of politics, often big promises and nothing behind them. Since I already own a woody mandarin scent with "Verveine Mandarine | L'Occitane en Provence" and also "Saffron | Jo Malone" belongs to my collection, I let "Starlit Mandarin & Honey | Jo Malone" pass me by and do not write it on the Christmas wish list

Creaminess in a bottle
I like the Jo Malone fragrances. Many criticize yes always the durability, but it is also just about Colognes and the airiness is simply part of the brand identity, are to be finally all beautiful with each other layer
Scarlet Poppy falls there so a bit out of the grid, because light and airy I find him not. Of course, he is also not a heavyweight (we are still talking about Jo Malone), but he differs in his way of making already clearly from the other fragrances, I find. As soon as you spray it on, you get the full creaminess. The ambergris seeds take no prisoners and are there immediately. They then also remain, because, I have to chalk up the fragrance unfortunately, a fragrance development he does not go through at least on my skin. Barley and fig read nicely (I love fig!), but none of that I can detect. There remains an engaging, warm creaminess without changing. The longevity is quite okay at 5-6 hours, with the projection quite restrained. A feel-good fragrance, especially now in the colder months. In summer, it would probably be too compact for me from the scent impression. By no means heavy, but just not so...airy, lightweight, breezy (somehow I can only think of English descriptions that reflect what I mean).
On the whole, something new from the house of Jo Malone and not bad, but you should not be blinded by the fragrance notes. For all who are looking for a warm, creamy fragrance without much frills to cuddle up but quite a recommendation. The bottle I find quite something misleading, red has often something wicked and awakens certain associations of a sexy, seductive fragrance - that is not Scarlet Poppy. It is designed more for sofa evenings alone or as a couple than for the grand entrance. But, that would have expected with Jo Malone probably anyway no one.

I thought it was you
Dear Oriana,
when I saw your fragrance notes, I really thought it was you: the holy scent grail, the fragrance I was always looking for. Minimally citrusy, very fruity, and creamy on the finish. Well, the marshmallow note listed put me off a bit, I can't do so much with sugary sweetness, but I thought the other notes will make up for it and it won't be that prominent. This aversion to marshmallows (also to eat) is also the reason why I do not know your much-mentioned cousin "Love Don't Be Shy (Perfume) | Kilian" and so can not draw a comparison between you.
It also started so well with us: juicy citrus fruits play around my nose directly after the first spray. One notices already the sweetness in the background, but keinewegs disturbing, but very finely interwoven and the Zitrik rather supporting. Reminds me of the super delicious lemon candy from Lake Garda with effervescent core, which I like to snack so much.
Quite quickly then come your remaining fruit notes, but the berries seem quite synthetic and not really authentic. I personally find that per se not even so bad, but somehow I am missing the fruitiness here and the heart note seems a bit dull - maybe it's because of the orange blossom? Oriana, here you have me unfortunately the first time disappointed.
The hoped for cream in the base is then also missing, creamy-creamy as hoped for you are not for me. You just get sweeter and ambrette and the musk take over. This was the second disappointment.
Dear Oriana, maybe you are not to blame at all, and I was just too blinded and too hopeful that you will become my great new fragrance love? I don't know, but we definitely still need to talk about the third disappointment: Your (lack of) uniqueness. Well, with so many new launches every year, it's obviously going to be hard to reinvent the wheel, but somehow I've come to expect more from your creators. After all, you are the mare from one of the most famous racing stables here and there you should already stand out from the mass of fragrances. But you don't. Not even through your performance (what a stupid word). But from a perfume where the mililiter costs 3 €, you can already expect a certain durability and radiance - I think. But here too, unfortunately, you do not convince, 5 hours are indeed solid, but that's not even a whole working day. Oh Oriana, there can also unfortunately your chicer pink bottle nothing more herausreißen, which is really an eye-catcher. I stay with your sister "Meliora | Parfums de Marly" , which I adore, as you surely know, and take trips with "Cassili | Parfums de Marly" from time to time. You may also stay, but best friends we probably will not, too bad.
You nevertheless in certain affection zugetan

"Tangy rhubarb," which turned out to be the most un-tangy rhubarb I know
Tangy Rhubarb, so tangy rhubarb. However, I don't find the naming particularly accurate in this case: the fragrance is not really tangy. At least not compared to "Zara Emotions N°09 - Jo's Rhubarb | Zara" or "Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate | Hermès". "Pierre Hermé - Pamplemousse Rhubarb | L'Occitane en Provence" also ranks up there. These are far more citrusy in the prelude and bring the sour, what rhubarb in the raw state to inherent, very well to the point.

Tangy Rhubarb goes a slightly different way, possibly because the limited edition, in the context of which it was released, is supposed to be based on jam? (That's probably why the bottles, which are quite different from the usual Jo Malone design and which I really do not find so successful. But, tastes are different. The sprayer works properly, after all, and that's actually the important thing.)

The fragrance starts slightly fruity, for my nose, however, floral notes predominate, but I can not exactly make out what is actually so exactly mixed in. The fragrance is not at all sweet, but rather green. On my skin, it then develops slightly creamy, but does not go through a great development, the cedar wood, for example, I do not perceive at all. The sage, however, provides a pleasant balance and prevents the slightly present fruitiness of the rhubarb from dominating. The Composotion is quite coherent, if one is not guided by the name.

The durability is unfortunately not particularly outstanding, after 4 hours, the fragrance is only skin close to perceive. Also, he is not a sillage monster, surrounds the wearer (for me, the fragrance is pretty clearly feminine) but like a delicate veil. No fragrance for autumn and winter, for it lacks any cuddliness, but a nice everyday companion in spring and summer.

And would I recommend him now? Quite, if you like rather light, fresh fragrances that get along without a hint of citrus and not too great expectations of durability and sillage has. For the special zing, it can also be very good with "Elderflower Cordial / Elderflower & Gooseberry | Jo Malone" layerm, whereby it becomes a little sweeter and the creaminess is still somewhat reinforced.
