A wonderful whisper of Earl Grey
Utterly lovely, a wonderfully balanced, refreshing composition.
This is meant to evoke the pleasure experienced when drinking a nice cup of Earl Grey tea. Christine Nagel managed to capture the smell of bergamot and jasmine without "overdoing" it. The fragrance offers a delicate impression rather than a loud and strong version of "Earl Grey". Bergamot can be felt in the topnotes, of course, whereas jasmine gradually emerges quite shyly on a bed of slightly aquatic notes mixed with apple. The drydown is lovely, too, with cedar and musk.
Well, there's just one little drawback: In the true Jo Malone-style, "Early Grey&Cucumber" is an Eau de Cologne, so it stays close to the skin and has little sillage. This said, it is still a wonderful scent that will have people around you sniffing the air with pleasure for the first 10 minutes after application (think of your bathroom). I used this as a pick-me-up fragrance for early mornings and had a 30 ml bottle, but I wouldn't mind owning a 100ml flacon of this gem!

stunningly photorealistic
perfectly catching the moment of opening a fresh tin of loose earl grey tea. it's strong and punchy at first, almost suffocating, but within 5 seconds it settles into the most soothing, realistic experience of getting yourself a strong cup of the tea.

i can't imagine not having this in my collection - as a tea lover, i use it as my layering multitool.
really, the amount of combinations it fits into is just unreal. whether it is to bring in more tea asset into other tea scents that just don't have enough of power in that note (russian tea and o, unknown, i'm looking at you two specifically...), or just creating different scent profiles such as fruity tea, milky tea, floral tea - it's just a magic item.
i could go on for days, listing all of my favourite combinations, so i encourage y'all to just try it out and experiment.

one thing that i feel like i need to mention is the longevity. i really don't get the hate that jo malone gets for having no staying power. all the ones i tried give me at least solid 6 hours (12h with the cologne intense) of pleasant, linear wafts whenever i move.

Underrated fresh tea scent
I love Earl Grey tea. The aromatic component of the bergamot oil added to the calming fragrant black tea makes for an amazing taste. It's tough to translate that feeling into a fragrance, but Earl Grey and Cucumber has done quite a good job with it.

The majority of the composition is this honey-sweetened tea accord, with the cucumber note added for freshness. The result is an aromatic, light, slightly floral scent that works really well on warm spring days. It is perfectly unisex and very mass-appealing. Underrated by the fragrance community.

in Strolling Mode
My girlfriend and I wandered through the spring city - quite leisurely and in good spirits.

We had time and no rush pushed us forward.

Then a beautiful, curvy, colorful saleswoman with a charming bright smile offered us Earl Grey.
And this clear, transparent scent fits the bright day and our strolling mode.
The Earl Grey tea note reaches me calmly, refreshed by bergamot.
The jasmine also reminds me of jasmine tea.

A relaxing tea time in the perfumery.
The cucumber note adds a refreshing touch.
Beeswax makes the scent creamy and the vanilla attractively soft.

Time passes more slowly - and we hardly wanted to part from the beautiful one and from the Earl.
But she took the trouble to fill us a bit of the enchanting elixir.
What service!
There was also an invitation for a hand and arm massage with the Malones. Perfect.

I can easily imagine this scent on both men and women, as it is generally relaxing.

The likable Earl is well-suited in his approachable manner for gifting - but also for keeping for oneself.

Where shall we drink our Earl Grey tea today?
Jo Malone's "Earl Grey & Cucumber" conjures up three summery scenes in which I would love to enjoy my tea.

First of all, of course, the classic velvety green English lawn, where the elegantly arranged tea table reigns: set with fine linen, a silver teapot, delicate porcelain, and of course cucumber sandwiches, scones, and "clotted cream". One approaches cultured, accompanied by a sun hat and the "Times" to the "Five o'clock"!

The second option is an "Alfresco Breakfast" à la Edouard Manet and Claude Monet.
A clearing under birches and other bright deciduous trees; playful, chasing sunspots on the blanket: cheerful gentlemen and ladies chat on and around it.
Almost everything that contributes to the general enjoyment is on the blanket or in the nearby picnic basket.

And finally, a completely homely impression: a picnic in the garden of the painter Max Liebermann's villa.
Located right by the Wannsee, the large lawn is adorned with the slender, light birches known from many paintings. The villa, the family home, with the café terrace and the large, colorfully planted flower bed in front, completes this view from the water.
The vegetable and perennial garden is on the other side towards the street.
The Liebermann family is absent, but guests have the freedom to use the garden as they please. Chairs and benches are generously available, as well as a white tea pavilion right by the water.
Thus, a tea break is staged on the lawn under the birches that rivals the two previously mentioned.
The blanket and the filled picnic basket were brought along; the tea in a thermos.
Unfortunately, the times are also over here when "families could brew coffee." That would of course be optimal!
The elegance of the English-celebrated tea is certainly not achieved here.
However, the view of the sunlit Wannsee, over which the sailboats glide picturesque, is much more impressive.
This variant is definitely more relaxed and entertaining.
The group of painting guests with their easels and sketchbooks is also a welcome addition to the afternoon: much beauty and sights are created there. Some will later adorn one or another small bank branch in an "exhibition of local artists".

All these images can be evoked by a pure summer fragrance like "Earl Grey & Cucumber".
Just the top note - green and fresh and aromatic through the jasmine, which also blooms here in hedges, refreshes immediately: cool and cheerful. The bergamot clearly perfumes our tea here.
Now, however, the cucumber cannot be denied any longer: freshly sliced, it adds its typically green scent to the existing composition. It is embraced by its carefully selected companions of the top note.
This fragrance does not remain so light and fleeting either: warm vanilla blends with sun-warmed beeswax, musk and cedar harmoniously round off the whole.

Jo Malone's "Earl Grey & Cucumber" is a summer fragrance that refreshes and cools; despite all its lightness, it still possesses a certain groundedness.
This fragrance is a slightly different freshness kick that fits in any bag thanks to the well-known, square bottle.
Whether for business or leisure - it always fits! Even in direct customer contact, this summery Jo Malone scent is never perceived as unpleasant or intrusive.

The longevity is, as always, not all-day: but "Earl Grey & Cucumber" easily tolerates more frequent reapplication; it is also highly recommended as a hair perfume, providing a special treat for the nose.
This "Perfumed Tea-Cucumber" blend surrounds you lively, without ever becoming annoying or even musty for a moment.

A fine fragrance web with light depth - interesting and accompanying a true summer day fresh and lively.
I do not want to miss "Earl Grey & Cucumber" anymore. This fragrance has earned its permanent place in my collection: it has now deserved its spot there.

A very fresh and discrete unisex cologne , apparently simple , but with a complexe and well balanced bouquet. It's perfect in the hot season

Realistic, fresh earl grey ; more like sniffing the tea bag itself rather than smelling the hot brewed tea

Makes me think of earl grey with no cream, much more bergamot and black tea focused. (Impression from Oct 26 2024)

This opens with cucumber, then quickly becomes a watery rain of white musk. It's fresh and clean but very sweet.

It actually smells like cucumbers (well, and tea). This is not necessarily a good thing.

I've rarely smelled such a perfect combo of fresh cucumber and bergamot plus black tea. Simple and good.

Earl Grey initially only represents tangy bergamot, only in the drydown does it reveal the spicy tea. Unfortunately, the cucumber note remains a bit weak.

Summery tea scent with zesty bergamot + green-herbaceous angelica. Luckily, no cucumber. In the dry down, fluffy + creamy like luxury body lotion.

Direct association Amabile/XerJoff, at least hints of it. Tea and cucumber come through for me. Beautifully fresh and green-woody for spring/summer.
