Chateau, 1970
This is refined, subtle opulence. The embodiment of ‘treat yourself’ in perfume form. It’s a Sunday afternoon at the most luxurious hotel and spa that you’ve decided you deserved and reserved yourself a room. The sun is shining as you step out of the most beautiful cedar sauna. The smell of the freshly cleaned towel you’re wearing is projecting the moisture and scent it absorbed while you sat steaming. You spray yourself with a gentle rosewater before putting on your make up for an afternoon brunch.
I have driven by the Chateau Marmont so many times, dreaming of staying there. It emits old and new Hollywood; modern and sophisticated. Glamorous but relaxed by the aura of Southern California. It’s inspired myself and so many other artists, and I feel as if Thin Wild Mercury does this location great justice in Chateau, 1970. This is first and foremost a rose forward perfume to my nose. I am not one that historically likes rose perfumes as the blends can often lean to artificial to my liking. Upon first wear, this is a very honest and true rose fragrance, reminding me more of the subtle scent of wet wild rose than artificial rose soap. So far it is wearable for me but I want to give it a few more tries before I commit to saying I like it. But I definitely find it pleasant. If you like rose in perfume, I would definitely recommend this perfume. I want to come back to this in the Spring or Summer as it’s not an appropriate winter scent for me.
Eau Duelle
Reminiscent of the coziest place you’ve ever been. It smells like a wood burning fire inside of a log home in the middle of winter with cookies baking in the oven. There’s soft jazz playing on the record player; you’re bundled up drinking a honey sweetened black tea. Everything is familiar and everything is just as you wish it to be.
The scent definitely reminded me of By the Fireplace, but in a more subtle and sophisticated way. For me, I really smell the vanilla and incense with a bit of a woody note that comes across as a subtle cedar scent when first sprayed. I really love the scent, but I found that it did fade on me quite quickly and I wish I had smelt it longer. This was a sample I made at Nordstrom so I’m not sure if it was the eau de toilette or the eau de parfum but I’m hoping it’s the edt because of the projection that it has and how long it lasted. I really love smoky vanilla woody scents and this is honestly so simple yet executed so effectively and I just really love it. This would be definitely something I would buy a full bottle of because I could see myself using it as an every day scent in fall and in winter.
Burberry Brit
Reminds me of rain, plaid blazers, thick rimmed glasses.
Studying late at night for a philosophy test.
Hot cup of earl gray tea in a hand thrown ceramic mug with a lipstick stain on the side
This is one of the first fragrances I bought as a young adult and has stayed a fall/winter staple in my life ever since.
It’s not one of the most expensive perfumes I own. It’s actually the most affordable. It will never not remind me of my days in Uni studying for finals.
The Matcha 26
Reminds me of drinking hot lemon grass tea while sitting on a cedar-wood patio watching the first spring rain fall wrapped in a cashmere sweater
This is the first Le Labo scent I’ve ever tried. Honestly not sure if I buy the small batch perfume idea. So far I love how subtle and creamy this scent is. It’s fresh but also with a warm undercurrent to it. I’ll definitely be putting this in the spring scent rotation next year. Looking forward to trying some more of their most popular scents.
Milk-
Reminds me of baking rice krispy squares during Christmas with my mom as a kid, licking the sticky marshmallow off of a wooden spoon.
First sample in the Commodity Exploration Kit I’m reviewing and I personally LOVE this scent. It’s a very light gourmand scent that is like a mix of marshmallow and cashmere with a slight woody note. It lasts for hours but isn’t over powering. No toothaches here! It’s light enough that I would throw this into a regular daily rotation for sure. This makes me super excited to try the rest of this kit
