Only Enigma in their heads like cryptographers of the 1930s
- Foreword -

Enigma, enigma.
A name that sticks in your head like honey.
With its already quite mysterious sound.
Deliberately named by Roja Dove in reference to the well-known cipher machine or (rather) to the indefinable fragrances, the high-quality perfume bottle offers a very individual and not exactly everyday smell for its wearer.
Difficult to write something new about such a well-known fragrance from an even better-known "luxury brand".
But every individual thought contributes something to the overall picture and so I hope to give people who have not already smelled the fragrance some help with their plans to test or even purchase it.
Often described as vanilla coke, but also as luxurious, Enigma together with Elysium is probably Dove's bestseller.
Perhaps precisely because it garnishes and complements the theme of "familiar/simple" with a pinch of "luxury", making it accessible to the masses.

- Flacon -

Beautiful, high-quality packaging in which the bottle is enthroned like a jewel
Roja typically high-quality bottle made of thick glass in line with the price
No cheap stickers, but a "massive" plaque on the glass
Lid decorated with little stones associated with the fragrance.
Of course, unnecessary frills for the "hardcore" connoisseurs of fragrances, but at the price called for, the eye also wants to be pampered.

- Fragrance -

The perfume, is consistently heavier and significantly "warmer" than its cologne counterpart.
Instead of a nice cold vanilla cola, it unfortunately leaves the impression of a cola forgotten on a park bench on a lukewarm summer's day.
Even if this sounds negative, this heaviness, this weightiness is not a bad choice for the right occasions.
And this is where the balancing act between formal opulence and ponderous serenity begins.
The fragrance can convey both, depending on how the wearer wants to appear and be perceived. Casual turtleneck with a cigar in a gentleman's room, feet up with a cognac on a leather armchair, or with tie and collar at an evening gala/summer party among well-heeled people? Strolling through the streets of the city center bathed in warm light or with umbrella and overcoat on the way to the cinema ?

With bergamot on the nose and flowers that turn slightly powdery as they progress,
one would expect more freshness at the beginning, but apart from the short opening there are no prominent citrics to be found. A little fizz in the nose at the start.
Some ginger and pepper loosen up the whole fragrance enough to not become overpowering and overwhelming, but the cognac note in combination with vanilla/ benzoin, plus tobacco, make the whole story seem "old/mature" to my nose.
Somewhat spicy, somewhat alcoholic, flowery-sweetish to put it briefly and succinctly.

Enigma conveys a feeling.
Now you could say, doesn't every fragrance do this? And of course that's true, a fragrance means something different to everyone.
For me, this enigma conveys a feeling of security.
Enigma is like arriving home after an eternity in the cold, despite its seemingly banal fragrance pyramid.
A distinguished fragrance that radiates life experience, one that you don't wear as a teenager.
A fragrance that underlines an acquired taste, like the love for good coffee, whisky, wine, fashion.
All subjective impressions, perhaps fueled by Roja's image and pricing policy?
Possible, because nobody is immune to advertising, but what I feel about the fragrance is real, at least for me.

- Price -

With Roja, unfortunately, as beautiful as the fragrances are, the price point always remains.
You don't have to talk about it, but you can and, in my opinion, you should.
Of course, quality costs money and there is no question that most Rojas are well crafted and of high quality, but there is an individual point at which price and quality are simply no longer in proportion.
As with pictures etc., one can argue that
Perfume is art and is worth more than the sum of its parts, that fragrances in this category are only for connoisseurs who only want to own such luxury goods for pleasure, etc., etc.
Such discussions are pointless.
The extent to which everyone invests their money and attaches value to things is absolutely individual.
For me, almost all Rojas have unfortunately passed the point where the price justifies a purchase.
However, Enigma gives me such a good feeling that I bit the bullet once.

- Final word -

"Life is just a fucking abyss and while we fall uncontrollably
holding on to each other or to things gives us at least a brief illusion of security.
You give me support and I give you support and honestly why shouldn't we
before the inevitable impact, it's not as if we can do anything about it"

Another entry on the Enigma.
Thanks for reading.

Balmy summer night, apple spritzer with shot in the park
Kilian, even if again and again sharply criticized by some or mildly smiled at.
Still one of my favorite houses.
The big and older brother of the "On the Rocks" the former City Exclusive fragrance Apple Brandy - New York represented one of the first points of contact after the iconic Straight to Heaven for me with the brand.
And what a contact it was. Apples, brandy, wood - I was blown away, drunk with joy.
Deep, full-bodied, pleasant - warm pleasure somewhere between distinguished and drunk at the village fair.

Now so some years later the "Flanker". Clear was immediately: The must here. Blindbuy.
In most Cases....not the smartest move, but.....well. Kilian had disappointed me so far rarely.
And not this time either. At least in terms of scent.
On the Rocks smells a lot "softer", airier and fresher than the role model.
Starts a little "tangy" with a slightly fruity note, should probably be the pineapple.
In my nose, however, nüscht with freshly cut pineapple zutun, rather anklänge of bergamot, but not directly penetrating citrus.
Rather like a mixed with some rum and Berentzen sour apple apple spritzer from which one has shaken a large part of the carbonic acid.
Although directly Boozy in the top note, but less "heavy" and slaying, as in the original
This light freshness pulls through the whole fragrance, almost to the base.
Vanilla, I perceive only very subordinate so that no too sticky sweetness spoils the course.
Ambroxan + moss come through with time and the fragrance presents itself somewhat greenish background.
No gloomy forest, no clammy musty moss, more like the dewdrops on a damp meadow. Associations of fresh and cool could arise.
The rum is consistently perceptible, but without this warmth in the original of a quaffable glass in a wood-paneled well heated gentlemen - lounge can be thought.
Is really conveyed rather the modern club atmosphere that you expect in the Big Apple aka NY. Lots of cool glass, metal and undercooled disdainful facial expressions.

All in all, you get with the fragrance exactly what you expect from the name, the DNA of Apple Brandy with a fresh twist. Without drifting too much in the shower gel / Saubermann or Zitrik / Freshness direction. A Beautiful Balance - Act between Heavy - Boozy and Fresh - Airy.

Now to the drum around, because here I find Kilian has mined hard. I've always been a little flacon and packaging snob, if I pay good money it should not only smell good but also be presented appealing.
The bottles, the coffrets and the whole presentation used to be a huge plus for the brand.
I bought my first flacons before Esteé Lauder took over the brand and this is now my first one after that and what you get for the price is unfortunately a joke.

The flacon design is a very nice idea, but implemented absolutely cheap.
From afar Hübsch, but as soon as you have him in hand and pulls off the cap an insult to any sense of aesthetics. Cheap plastic, with a poor fit and hold. The badge on the front paper-thin, almost like a sticker stuck on it.
The whole thing packaged in a featureless tiny black cardboard box.
No metal box, no velvet, nothing. Cost saving where it only goes. Whereby for 180 euros....
Well, at least the sprayer is really good, fine mist. No coarse particles.

Durability and sillage both for the proud price and the fact that in addition to the fresh notes with other notes especially in the base is also worked rather in the lower midfield.
Starts the whole in the first 30minuten quite brachial and well erriechbar for the environment, so the magic after 4-5h is only Hautnahe for my nose perceptible, no comparison to the original.

Overall, an absolutely beautiful fragrance, round, pleasant Immergeher ( as long as you have no problem with being asked if you have a sit :D).

Price - performance but mMn only for fans of the brand or lovers of Boozy fragrances justifiable, who is looking for a nice Ausgehduft or just nen Freshie comes elsewhere even with 2 bottles cheaper away.

Niche hipsteroud, Thailand has become mainstream.
- Dimitry you old sly dog, what are you doing to me ? -
This is about niche for the tender, oud in gentle.

Spray once and I'll sell my belongings.
Self-discovery trip #simpleliving. Is what you do without a compass or map.
I'm drawn to Thailand.
Germany ? I have to get away, away.
Once more jet-lag, from now on only backpack.

First airport, then tuk-tuk, then gas station.
Flowers soaked in gasoline?
First hut made of wood, in it there was a lot of medicine,
Man the gal from down-under, smells like no other.
In a shirt full of sweat, then danced in the sand,
Ecstasy ! Our nights are long,
Folk drugs, hugs, singing
Campfire songs, I make new bonds.

Been here for a while now.
Money's getting tight, the sun's burning.
That girl from back in the day?
She was almost too cute to be true and my skin is now brown as cocoa,
Always wanted the opposite, but now have wife......and n kid.
Got up close and personal with me, with her, with the world. Ask yourself who we are.

Started smoking now for stress, tobacco with vanilla.
Work at the spice shop to pay the rent and upkeep,
my new boss is called DImitry, a filthy rich Russian.
Cinnamon and cocoa are my daily bread.
Is far away so much better than home?
Slave labor in paradise, chains are everywhere.
Now seriously social criticism ?

The wife is gone. My son is screaming.
My hut smells a bit like wild animal by now.
The bag of cocoa is just son moderately good pillow.

I sleep little, was it all really worth it ?

Completely Detached, from Earth.........
"After such a stressful day, I usually think way too much,
Night after night awake, lack of sleep,
need for a hit of that weed again,
Hiding in the smoke, among the steaming resin,
this dark vapor, this thin thread escaping my lungs,
i'm exhaling, helps me sleep again.

Legs dangling from the roof, looking down, darkness is everywhere,
In my head I play chess with myself, the pawn moves off. B8, now this is going to be a raid.
before me then the sea of houses, never learned to swim on wet asphalt,
it rains a little, wind howls, the last ash gets cold.
Feel done in, yet not by gun violence,
I hear laughing Afgahnen, I guess, but seems more like ne shadowy figure.

At first glance, I seem quite fucking Awkward,
but when you know me better,
one notices :
there are no dirt stains on my white vest,
but only holes in my last shirt. "

Moiiin Leude, so today times Black Afgano.
After what feels like half an eternity, 2 empty bottles, (some presumed?) reformulations,
and soon over 12 years on the market I still feel unable to put my appreciation into words, but still compelled to write something.
Gualtieri may be n verschrobener Kautz, which so the directions of his fragrances,
there may be a lot of synthetics in it and not everyone will love the fragrances, but with the Afganen has the good gentleman the nail, at least for my taste, hit on the head. and so long on it banged around until the thing is so deep in the wood plank that you have when driving over it with the hand / nose problems to hang up somewhere.

Since I am quite short in the "fragrance game", I learned to know and love the fragrance only in 2019.
And it smells......not like cannabis flowers, not like "weed" or hemp as is constantly written here.
It smells like the extract. Dark, sweetish, resinous. About like you might imagine the smell in opium dens in 19th century England. Of course, hashish and opium are 2 different things........but well, you don't want to split hairs ;)

Beguiling, sticky, decelerating, calming, comforting :

"Take a deep breath and let yourself fall. You've finally arrived at nirvana.
sink into the cushion, on the couch in blissful enveloping warmth and a cloud of harmony."

But still somehow mysterious without drifting too much into esotericism :

unaggressively masculine, dominant and powerful without wanting to distinguish himself.
everything somehow, but nothing really .
no gourmand, no blatant mallet. no smoking man.

SIllage and projection still good enough in 2021.
Have it however somehow with my first Flakon stronger in memory.

All in all, a variety of fragrance that is not for everyone.
Especially at first "sniff" but endearing, if you can let yourself fall.

Less a fragrance for the head, more for the soul.

For the sensitive Emokids in the dark corners of the Pausenhöfe, the mysterious leather jacket wearers at the end of the zugenebelten bar at half past two in the night, the Hippiebräute the laughing - yoga in the well-incense ashram or simply for the guy and the girl next door, if they want to come down after a stressful day simply times.

Long live you Black Afgane, thank you that you exist.
Please continue to bring some comforting, warm, sticky blackness into our lives

Nouveau riche yuppie, arrogant and superficial - On white wings towards Olympus and salvation ?
If I smell the fragrance plays again and again the intro sequence of American Psycho in my head, because it reminds me of a man who is so concerned about his appearance and the fact to make a good impression without being really non-conformist, that his well-groomed exterior almost seems affected.

"I live in the American Gardens Building on West 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name isn’t Patrick Batem"

"I think God is looking through my window
Probably thinking, What an idiot!'
Live like every day is December 31
Like I'm not afraid to die
And for that I'll go to hell safe
I'm going to hell safe
I want her to start appreciating me
You're all validation and no more, princess
God, forgive me for playing with feelings
Throwin' out all that money at the perfumery" - December 31 - Shindy.

Named based on Pegasus, not a purebred or real existing horse like many of the other Marlys., no this one Wants to be different, aim higher.
Dazzling white, winged, powerful, sublime and part of Greek mythology.
An impressive name that casts great shadows and suggests a lot to expect from the fragrance.

Pegasus is but purely olfactory not particularly complex, at least not for my nose.
Bitter almond, vanilla, lavender form the prominent trio and create a nice blend that conveys something like sweet coolness in the prelude.
Like someone who holds you but is emotionally absent.
Called by many as metallic note, metallic almond, this paraphrase also comes quite close to the impression, but has nothing to do with the real feeling and smell of iron / metal mMn.
Pegasus is sweetish, however, I feel him at the same time as fresh.
So no special "cuddly scent" for the fireplace or cold winter days, rather a fragrance for office and everyday life. Pegasus is edgeless, although very special, but designed so that he wants to please.
I have long thought about what reminds me of the whole thing and after I discovered here the comment of Real3XO fell with me the penny, after cream, after body care, after such a clean person that one has the feeling he would have fallen into the Nivea almond skin cream pot.

Do I find Pegasus now bad ? No, definitely not. Rather the opposite, Pegasus gives the wearer for the duration of the day (~6-12h // because the durability and sillage on skin are enormous, on clothes even better) an enormous composure, self-confidence and certain aloofness without, however, too much to polarize.

Flacon is as usual from Marley very high quality and beautiful heavy.
The silver fits perfectly to the fragrance experience, although white would certainly have been extremely suitable.
Durability as already mentioned enormous and by far above the level of the current Herod or Layton. 6-8h + loose with some distance perceptible, then the projection flattens out a bit.

Scent very nice, if you are looking for something in the direction clean, without wanting to fall back on the good "shower gel vibe" or Aquaten

Not gender bound, quite flowing. Not intrusive or aggressive, yet noticeable without being annoying. Present without being shouty.
Suitable for all year round, except perhaps in the thickest midsummer.
Rather creamy than powdery, however, no Great scent progression except for the very dominant top note which is softened with time and slowed down by vanilla.
