If you had to choose: New clothes/shoes or new perfumes?

If you had to choose: New clothes/shoes or new perfumes? 1

Since joining Parfumo, I rather spend my money on perfumes than on new clothes or shoes. Haven't spend money on new clothes or shoes for months because I rather had a new perfume.

How about you?

It comes and goes: sometimes I prefer buying clothes (especially at the beginning of a new season), and sometimes I prefer indulging in new fragrances.

For me it is easier to choose a new perfume than new shoes. Even if the price is similar I find it easier to spend the money on a new fragrance. Now that I think about it, why is it that I consider 189€ too much for a pair of shoes but a “reasonable price” for a bottle of perfume? Crazy! I should reconsider my priorities.

Good question … if I may: If you really don ´ t know for sure which or what exactly, and if you really have to answer t h i s question, it can not be that important, and you should rather use the extra money for a donation of some kind Smile

Hi, XyzXyz,

Yes, you are right: It actually is a question people on lower budgets won't ask themselves. Being able to choose between these two is already a matter of luxury (though I'm far from rich or anything Smile) And so I also feel a bit 'decadent' on the matter:-) and sometimes even a little quilty when I buy a perfume.

Ofcourse it is not that important, but I was curious if people find perfumes more important since joining a site like this. I noticed it triggers my longing to smell good and to find out about perfumes, more than before, when I didn't join this site Smile and so I changed my priorities. Ofcourse I'm the only one responsible for that, but again: just curious how this works for others.

Oh and by the way: I do donations too Smile

Yes, I am totally with you Smile : A little bit of luxury  from time to time is good for everybody and totally ok. Especially when it comes to perfume 😅

What I was trying to say was something different, let me try to explain ...

If one day we cannot decide wether we buy shoes or pants or perfume (instead of wanting a certain perfume or certain shoes or certain pants), thats another thing. Thats the moment when we relize: This time it' s n o t that important to me, this time I don't really want to spent my money for luxury. Whenever t h a t happens, it could be better to donate some money instead of buying something which is obviously  not so important to us. My opinion...

I am sorry for not making it clear at the first time Sad

New perfume, of course.

No, no need to apologize Smile! Sorry for misunderstanding (although a bit of self reflection didn't hurt me either Smile )

New perfume, of course.

+1  However, this may be because I am retired now and do not have a big need for a lot of new clothing.

It's hard question. But when you think about it rationally, perfumes are being used and someday it'll be finished. Shoes and clothes are being worn out by the time. So best choice would be getting a automatic watch! Smile

I would say 80% perfume 20% clothes.

There are some caveats, I suppose. I spent a lot of time in my early 30s, when I was about to graduate college and just after (I was a nontraditional student so a little older than my classmates) building a wardrobe that represented me. I think the life change of going back to college then graduating paired with the early 2010s body positivity movement really helped me break out of my "please don't look at me or my body" phase since I am plus size. Over the course of a few years I was able to build a great wardrobe, so I don't buy clothes nearly as often now. Plus, I grew up thrifty (read "poor") so clothes are something I really have a hard time spending a lot on--I buy on sale or with discounts as often as possible.

My fragrance reinvention is more recent, so I am still fleshing out that wardrobe. I have my ride or dies, and some perfumes linked to seasons or special occasions, but right now a big focus is filling out different categories I know I will enjoy and wear often. I know I still need a clean, fresh rose to go with my dark and mysterious rose, for example, so I am looking for options that will fill that hole. Once I have it, I hope that I won't have to be tempted (as much) by others in that niche. Another that is a high priority is iris, since my previous iris holy grail turned and I had to get rid of it. I miss that in my life a lot, so I know the funds need to be allocated there.

For my husband, it would be shoes! He just bought an expensive pair of Onitsuka Tiger sneakers, so I'll need to remind him of that the next time there's an unstoppable desire to buy a bottle of perfume.

Like perfume, clothes and shoes are things that can last for a long time if you take good care of them. I think both are worthy investments.

Perfumes easy for me lol. Im not into clothes like i am fragrance. Holidays/birthdays come around everybody knows what I want.

2

Perfumes, definitively.

Even if I am home, gardening in shorts and tee-shirt, I wear perfume.

You can be a poor person, you don't have clothes, don't have shoes, but being clean is within reach.

when Cologne speaks nobody checks the grammar 😉

Depends honestly, it’s like basic style, if you have everything, new clothes doesn’t strive dopamine, like smells, and I think we are physically programmed like that. So I have everything, but Parfums always differs. Parfumes!
