Aventus overrated?

Aventus overrated? 1

Hello everyone. First time poster here, long time lurker.

Am I alone in thinking Aventus is super overrated? I went to a Creed store and the sales associate had me put it on my skin to wear for the day. The top notes of fruit / citrus were nice, but the sweet smoky dry down was awful to my nose. After the initial hour to hour and a half I just wanted to wash it off.

I acknowledge being a novice fraghead and not having the most sophisticated nose; I probably have a minuscule collection of frags compared to most here. I wanted to like Aventus, it’s just not my thing at all. With the price it commands and all the hype surrounding it, I was expecting way way more.

I didn’t like it the first 3ish months I had it, but then one day notes unlocked in my nose and I was like damn this shit is good.

Being that fragrance is so subjective, no you're not wrong at all. However, also because there are about 80,000 clones/ inspired fragrances that mimic Aventus , I can see where you're coming from. Me personally, I think the greatest form of flattery is mimicry which would make Aventus masterful. I think the DNA has just gotten played out.

I don't know since I've never tried it. The reason I haven't is due to the constant discussion (not here, over you-know-where) about batches and how this batch smells better than that batch or is stronger or weaker, etc., etc. I don't bother with fragrances with those sorta complications. To substitute, I use Explorer and Hacivat . I do like those two and since they are supposed to be similar to Aventus, I can only assume Aventus is pretty good too.

Seconding Hacivat. It has more depth, perfect if you don't mind a damp/mossy drydown.

Aventus was spectacular, but it's been reformulated into oblivion. Creed more like Greed.

Aventus overrated? Hell no. But to each his own taste right?

Would I buy it? That’s another story. There are so many flankers (of which I own one) that I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.

The most overrated fragrance of all time in my opinion.

Edit: let me be clear - I don't think it's a bad fragrance. But people talking about it like it is a fact that it's the greatest fragrance ever made is ridiculous. It's an 8/10 bland clean scent that is slightly over the hill now. It isn't particularly innovative (the spine is a basic bergamot-patchouli-oakmoss chypre), and it isn't particularly influential. Yes, there are thousands of clones, but they are trying to make a 1-to-1 copy, it didn't start a whole new genre like Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum did

I actually love Morning Chess Eau de Parfum that is my Aventus umbrella cologne. I think it does Aventus better than Aventus for my nose. I tried Explorer not to long ago, and was pleasantly surprised.

@Stardust23 interesting. I'll have to try Morning Chess. Are there any others from Vilhelm Parfumerie you'd recommend?

I only sampled a few others and didn’t care for them, none of their top names so nothing I could recommend yet.

To My Father looks interesting though.

I also personally think Aventus is very overrated and the price is not justified at all, almost all expensive niche fragrances are like that to me. But it's all about the personal taste of course.

You’re definitely not alone in thinking Aventus is overrated! While it’s a highly praised fragrance, its smoky, sweet dry down doesn’t work for everyone. Many people love it for its fresh opening and complex evolution, but others, like yourself, find the dry down too strong or off-putting. Fragrance preferences are subjective, and just because a fragrance is hyped doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for everyone.

I'm m a aventus clone fan as well as a fan of other houses that clone creed fragrances. I have C.d.n.i.m. limited edition parfum and every time I wear it only men compliment it. It's really not that popular wear I'm at, I've only had one person wear it which is a co-worker. I smelled Creed Aventus and after smelling it I will never buy a bottle. It smelled off putting with the moss in the backround. I like the armaf better. So yeah I think creed aventus is Hella overated and for the price. There are way more better clones.
