Since we're delving deeper into evocative animalics, I would recommend Marlou.
The brand is very under the radar with 4 releases and a dirt cheap discovery set.

Here's a few more you may want to consider.
Azzaro pour Homme Eau de Toilette old school scent. Need to overspray but still won't meet your performance requirements. However, glorious masculine fragrance.
Eau Sauvage Parfum (2017) and
Jules Eau de Toilette old school scents with pretty good performance.
If you like
Sauvage Elixir try
Sphinx Elixir . More of a spicy leather. Beast mode performance.
Guilty Absolute pour Homme strong leather and mineral spirits/gasoline scent.
Vi Et Armis strong burning wood/smoky scent.
Terror & Magnificence This is smoky/woody/spicy. I prefer it over Vi Et Armis because there's more to it than just smoke.
Iron Duke is another Beaufort that's often recommended. To me, I think "Cruz del Sur I | XerJoff" is similar but better.
Cuoium Smoky, animalic leather.
Stercus "Stercus" means dung or manure in Latin. Animalic, sweaty, ripe fruity with a very subtle background of manure. Sounds bad but it's really good.
If you like the scents of
Antaeus Eau de Toilette and
Kouros Eau de Toilette , try Él by Arquiste . (Thumbnail doesn't work but it's in the database here.) It's a lot stronger than those two oldies. El opens like Kouros and dries down to something more like Antaeus.
Something else that's more like Kouros is
Juste Filthy. Juste Filthy is even better when layered with
Scatamalis . Scatamalis can also be used as a base layer for other fragrances to make them more animalic. It has civet, musk and skatole.
Hm interesting interesting...
Might get cuoium literally today..
Scatamalis sounds rather good and one statement calls it's very sharp and green? Noice noice noice...
I Will look into sphinx elixier and Él...
These are really interesting suggestions, thank you so much! About half of those I haven't even heard of! 😎 💪🏻 💪🏻 ✋🏻
Some I've had or have but aren't up to scratch are Eau Sauvage 17 (really high quality and strong but too sweet and no sharpness) and guilty absolut, real old school but just missing that sharp note to make it shine..
Not to criticize your suggestions, I really appreciate them and THAT'S for sure, thank you very much!
You are a man of good tastes. You and Wusubi have apparently very similar noses to mine and that's so rare? And awesome to find! 😁
No problem. And we can't all like the same thing. Different tastes make the perfume world go round!
I don't know if I'd say
Scatamalis is sharp and green. Most prominent to me was the poo note.
Yeah, @Edelwolf , @Wusubi and @Smirky - the bros with the man funk nose. hahahahaha
Actually, the king is @DrB1414. He's a quiet dude and doesn't say much around here but take a look at his collection. AWESOME.
I don't think it's uncommon for people who take serious interest in the hobby. I'm not saying I don't occasionally dabble in sweet perfumes, but it's not quite "it" without some stink haha.
The safe and mass-appealing scent profiles gradually become boring as you put your nose to more fragrances. That's when you start gravitating towards the more distinctive notes and well, animalics happen to be just that.
That said, I can settle for spicy/smoky (
Interlude Man) or a proper vetiver/leather/tobacco scent. It really depends on my mood, I don't actually reach for animalics that often.

Heeheeheee indeed, it's awesome to meet people of good - and especially - similar tastes!
Btw sorry for the late reply.
The other day I was SURE I'd receive Cuoium, but it was instead Bois imperial, Quentin Bish. Hm... Not sure yet what to think of it, but you do get nose blind to it in a way I'd say...
Hopefully the Cuoium will come through soon..
Next up would be the Olifant I think. 😁 💪🏻 💪🏻 😎
PS I look at his collection, thank You SIR 😁
(Whoah! a LOT of oud!! )
@Smirky could I ask your advise, please?
I'm sorta between Afrika Olifant and Sultan Vetiver, both Nishane. Knowing both fragrances? And knowing my tastes somewhat, which one would you think suits me better?
I'd lean towards olifant, but am as yet undecided...

Hmmm, not sure. They are so different. I just sprayed each on a different wrist to compare again. I have Sultan but only a sample of Afrika (picking up a bottle for my birthday next month).
Afrika Olifant is a very animalic leather (after dry down). The opening is quite fecal. It calms down a bit but there's always a bit of that oud-y poo note in the background.
Sultan starts out quite green and has an interesting evolution as it dries down. It's not animalic. I'd describe it as green-aromatic-earthy.
It depends on how versatile of a fragrance you want. It's easier to wear Sultan to different occasions, IMO while Afrika, because it's more of a stinker, is more limited (unless you wear what you want when you want wherever).
I'd recommend Sultan just because it's a safer recommendation because it's more versatile. But better would be for you to test both. Have you considered buying samples?
Man, I'm really loving the fumes from Afrika on my wrist. It's been a while since I tested it. Sorry, I'm not being of much help. Don't want to see you making an expensive mistake.

Hm I'm leaning more and more to the olifant...
Am worried that the vetiver might be too boring for me, lol 😂
You would say that it's sharp, am I right? 😁 The olifant...
PS samples take forever to Iceland and the cost doubles, maybe triples by the time it gets here.
Shipping. Vat, customs, other delivery frees, you name it, it's daylight robbery..
Interesting, to me
Afrika-Olifant is more about high quality resins than being animalic. Sure, the leather can get quite oily and pungent, but it's easy to focus on fruity myrrh and creamy labdanum.
It's heavenly once the incense kicks in after about an hour and the leather gets smoky and dry. Also the drydown is something else, to me it's photorealistic dry animal fur, castoreum is still present but also a resinous quality.
So I actually wish it was more animalic, it's only dirty for a while - not pissy, fecal or off-putting at all. IMO it's mostly about resins and godlike leather.
If you want a straight up animalic experience, take a peek at
Mūsīqá Oud.

Howdy Sir and thank you for the reply and the tip!
Hmmm..that makes me wonder...
There's a few reviewers who don't get the animalic notes, whereas others say it smells straight up like the lions enclosure at the zoo...
Perhaps some aroma chemical magic that not all noses perceive??
Can I ask you: do you perceive olifant as sharp?
And have you smelled the sultan vetiver? Would you call that one sharp?
Thank You SIR 😁
PS Hyrax works really well on my skin for example. That's another possibility: maybe it's skin chemistry? Because I can believe that on some it smells... Yucky. But no one has recoiled in horror from hyrax on my skin yet. They all say yeah smells good!
It's pretty much a personal experience. That's why sampling is best!
Regarding longevity, Afrika lasts longer for me than Sultan. After this morning's shower, Sultan was gone but I still got whiffs of Afrika on my wrist.
Oh yeah, one other thing. Sultan starts out pretty unique with the green aspect. It's evolution is a pleasant experience. Finally though, it ends up as a standard vetiver, although very strong, and nicely based in subtle leather. Afrika to me is more the unique fragrance throughout its life.
@Edelwolf It's safe to say that most (if not all) of the scents we've discussed here are QUITE sharp. That's the point.
Afrika-Olifant is sharp and animalic, but also a balanced leathery blend with high quality resins.
Sultan Vetiver is pungent as well. It's a green and aromatic scent that gradually becomes earthy, dirty and of course woody.
@Smirky and I have either reviewed or posted a statement for most of the scents mentioned here. Here's my review of Sultan Vetiver since you've asked.
Perhaps it is fun to look into the Icelandic brand of Fishersund as well. Nothing soft/warm there. Utilykt for example!

Well, now, I've wondered about that house. @Edelwolf care to comment as you location is Iceland?
No̱ 54 Eau de Parfum has some interesting notes.

Yessir and thank You Sir! 😁
The idea was your personal perception of the fragrance as sharp or not, since it seems so different to some.
My point here is that I don't want to buy a fragrance that in the end is hardly animalic to MY nose and perhaps not sharp, either.
Of course @Smirky is right in that sampling is safest. But, like I wrote to him, here to Iceland it takes inordinate amounts of time and money, you might (nearly) as well just go ahead and buy the fragrance... 😁

Hm I have to expose my ignorance on that one. Didn't realize they're Icelandic? All I know here is Andrea Maack and that's.. Well. Priced as Amouage and let me just say the quality does not warrant such arrogant pricing in any way.

Howdy Sir and thank You for the feedback! I'm in Reykjavík, Capitol city..
I think olifant reacts different on some people's skins/to their noses...
Guess I'll just risk it! 😁
Samples really are the best but they only make sense for me if I already order a perfume on say lucky scents and then order them alongside. Special orders of samples literally don't make sense here, the customs are blood sucking thieves...
I take a look into that house but won't hold my breath... Perfume is not something they know how to do here..😁
PS your Afrika-Olifant review sold it, I think..
No worries, I'm certainly not gonna blame you if it turns out a dud for me, heeheeheee ... 😁 💪🏻
Oh it’s sharp, animalic, dry, smoky leather to my nose. I love castoreum. But it’s not the unwearable monster some people make it out to be. A very misunderstood and underrated fragrance.

I agree completely.

Will update as soon as I have it.. Also still hoping that Cuoium will make it to my shelf soon..
Leather fragrances these days make me wary because nearly ALL of them are this soft, warm subtle suede stuff a la Tom Ford.
Nothing could be more boring to me, I gave ombre leather to my doctor.
Soft. Warm. Subtle. Hm, mainstream...
But Cuoium and especially Olifant, they sound like entirely different animals, note the pun. 😉
Btw Figment Man... Unfortunately discontinued, I hear tell? Not really surprising.
But WHAT a fragrance... One small spritz lasts like a 24 hours on skin (after some maturation).
And the scent... It's QUITE animalic, in a way.. Different to hyrax, or straight up oud. I think it has civet? And then the soil note, there's some synergistic magic going on.. It's REALLY special, kinda regretful they discontinued it...
