Ambery Rose Beauty
Christian Dior's recent reformulations and nonsensical name changes have almost pushed me to boiling point in the last few years. It almost got to the stage that I was willing to boycott the brand altogether. They're lucky that I happened to be in a good mood while strolling past the Dior counter a few weeks ago, and seeing that my spirits were high, a sales assistant invited me to test the new Miss Dior Le Parfum.
I'm happy to announce that this Le Parfum version smells nothing like the insipid, reformulated mess that is Miss Dior (Cherie) EDP. This fragrance is actually quite impressive, almost making up for all Dior's previous mishaps.
Miss Dior Le Parfum opens with a rich blend of sweet mandarin orange and oily rose. The vanilla, amber and patchouli heart is not far behind, and tends to kick in a few minutes into the scent's development.
It's quite an intense fragrance, which is to be expected seeing that it comes in a parfum concentration. My guess is that this flanker is aimed to appeal to those who mourn the loss of the original 2005 Miss Dior Cherie.
I wouldn't describe it as a gourmand, although it is quite sweet. The vanilla accord is much more pronounced in this fragrance than it has been in previous versions. Towards the drydown, it actually begins to smell quite smoky and sensual.
If I were to choose any of the Miss Dior fragrances, Le Parfum would be my pick. The longevity and sillage are superb, as is the composition. Bit by bit, I am starting to forgive Dior for all his prior offences.
