Superlative bourbon vanilla, highly balanced
Dior Vanilla Diorama is one of the most recent releases from the Privee Collection, a real stunner of a vanilla fragrance, in my opinion, with a very balanced weight, sweetness, and occasion, with high utility. At the center is a bourbon vanilla, but not heavy, cake-like, or especially boozy, with spicy accents of rum, cacao, cardamom, and pink pepper, moving from a citrus opening of orange and lemon to a dry down of sandalwood and patchouli. It just uncannily hits a lot of the right spots while not being too over-the-top.
I consider myself unusually impressed with this vanilla masterpiece, considering how understated it is, compared to, say, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille or Eighteen Fifty Parfums Chateau, two of my very favorite vanilla fragrances, each of which is a bit of a more intense experience than Vanilla Diorama.
Dior Vanilla Diorama is priced at $350/$250/$110 for 250/125/40ml, more or less in line with the standard pricing, which I still regard as very reasonable for a designer’s high-end line, and of course the pricing encourages you to buy more, but I like the more modest 40ml option for those that know that they don’t need a lot, as the 125ml size (my favorite) is quite large for the smallest size available.
Overall, it’s a great bourbon vanilla with just the right blend of spicy and citrus touches, excellently put together, and, like other some other great Dior Privee offerings, is available at a price that’s consistent with the market.
