a rarity
Anyone looking through my collection will find, alongside a few Guerlains (chuckles), also 3 Halston classics.
I have already commented on the popular Halston 1-12 and Halston Z 14 in Germany, today I would like to dedicate some time to perhaps the least known Halston for men. I admit it openly, I like lavender scents. I stand by my Pour un homme by Caron, which I generously use since I have a large supply. The other lavender favorite - Halston 101 - is used less frequently. Here I only have a 3 oz bottle, and since there is no expectation of this fragrance making a comeback, it is strictly saved!
Halston 101 is an intense, spicy, herbal scent that follows a completely different line than Pour un homme.
Herbal-spicy should be the description from the top note to the base note. After about 10 minutes of application, I perceive fir and cloves. Quickly following this is a beautiful woody, leathery note. It reminds me a bit of sharpening a high-quality pencil. I think the cedarwood is responsible for this. Above all, however, the lavender remains, which is generally said to have a calming effect.
Nothing feels angular, sharp, scratchy, or even loud. I wish for this scent in a massage oil or body cream.
This wish will probably remain unfulfilled, as Halston 101 is no longer available. A design-enthusiast friend brought it to me from America in the early 90s. The bottle is, like the others from the Halston family, a design masterpiece by Elsa Peretti. The bottle fits into a half-closed hand. The fingers grip into the grooves, the thumb finds a smooth place on the other side. One might also call the bottle a hand flatterer.
Contemporaries report that Halston 101 was also sold in Germany.
Years ago, I followed an ebay auction that ended with high prices. Should Halston 101 be seen anywhere, I can only recommend: BUY!
