Red Door for the Younger Consumers
I see this Red Door flanker as the youthful alternative to the original. Red Door Aura won't surprise you with anything unique, but it is extremely pleasant, something that I'm sure the young girls will go wild over.

Raspberry is quite a popular note in fragrances these days, so it's definitely not out of place as the dominant accord in Red Door Aura. Thankfully the note is only slightly sweet, nowhere near as candied as I thought it would be. A delicate blend of feminine florals in the heart keeps the scent fresh and pretty.

Red Door Aura is a good fragrance for all seasons, however Spring would be the most ideal time to wear it so you can really enjoy the sweet raspberry and orange blossom accords.

The composition is fairly straight-forward. What you read in the scent pyramid is essentially what you'll smell. I enjoyed wearing Red Door Aura, however I still prefer the much more controversial and bold original, Red Door.

I think it will sell well amongst the younger consumers due to its striking pink door bottle and fruity floral feel. I can't see lovers of the original Red Door falling head over heels for this version. Actually, its promotion has been so bad that I didn't even know it existed until I spied its bottle sitting on the Elizabeth Arden counter alongside Red Door. My guess is that it might be fairly short-lived.

What lies behind the door?
Today, I went out with my girlfriend on a "scent hunt," and we cast our lines in the perfumery.

I had a beautiful high-priced fish on the hook when my friend approached with a special "Aura."
I paused, sniffed her thoroughly, and immediately threw my expensive catch back into the water.

Her scent was impressive - transparent yet intense and expressive.

She smiled and held the red door in front of my nose - with the fitting subtitle Aura.
I looked at the beautiful little box and wondered what might be hidden behind this door.

A discreet, red velvet boudoir that one excitedly visits with their "affair"?
A tango school where dancers cling closely to each other with serious faces?
Or a noble drawing room where the ladies of "society" meet for a cup of Earl Grey or mocha, and occasionally hold séances?

I decided on the latter.
The salon is paneled in wood and the walls are draped in silk.
On the curved Chippendale tables sit silver bowls overflowing with raspberries and orange blossoms.
Bouquets of roses and jasmine adorn Jugendstil vases, filling the room with their enchanting fragrance.
The smoky aroma of teak and sandalwood wafts through the space, blending with the muted chatter of the sophisticated ladies.
Today, no séance is taking place - no, they are playing bridge.
Yet the room still has an enigmatic spiritual quality.

And so does the scent.
Transparent and intense, - noble and mysterious at the same time.

Of course, I read that the red door belonged to Mrs. Arden's cosmetics salon on Fifth Avenue - but this mundane solution to the riddle does not truly convey "Aura."

It pretends innocence with raspberries but has a naughty side. This is well masked by clean musk. The gray office mouse in garters.

Artificial raspberry cream lures you to the door, but beware! Behind it lurks a completely humorless 50s laundry room talcum soap.

If Red Door were a lush bouquet of flowers, R.D. Aura is just a fruity, watery water lily. Arden DNA is recognizable, but no highlight.

A full powdery scent - yet not heavy. Elegant - and sensual at the same time.

When I restore furniture from the 50s, it smells similar - like paint stripper and later like varnish. Unfortunately, it feels very unpleasant to me.

first fruity-fresh, then a hint of chocolate-peach (wonder where that comes from?) BUT the base is a dream & slightly naughty. Who would have thought :-)

Not a masterpiece, but for little money, a fruity companion for everyday life.
