Compliment Getter
Yes, that's true. It's the second time people ask me what my perfume is while I'm wearing Chalou Gold by Lidl, which is pretty much a dupe after Dior's Jadore, and a successful one at that.

I am slightly upset and a bit offended since actually I don't get compliments with many other perfumes however expensive they may be... but the truth is yes here; apparently Chalou smells *good* on me.

Chalou Gold, I adore you.
Since I've been with Parfumo, my collection has grown significantly (surprise! :D). And yet, I reach for none more regularly than the cheapest of my perfumes: Chalou Gold.
It is my all-purpose weapon: well-groomed but not too fancy, warm but not too sweet, fresh in spring, fruity on summer evenings, warm in the autumn sun. It is simple and unpretentious, and it lifts my mood every time. It’s suitable for job interviews but also works perfectly on the sofa on Sundays. I always take it with me in a travel spray because it fits so many moods. And of course, it spares all my other treasures. Its simplicity also grounds my nose. After that, I can smell the heavy hitters better.
So, in short: I love love love Chalou Gold.
Is it supposed to be a dupe? Fine by me - then I can invest the saved money in a few decants.

Chalou Gold starts with fruity, zesty peach. That’s the part that lifts my mood. Does anyone know those sweet-sour peach rings from the candy aisle? That’s what it reminds me of. Chalou is less sweet. Then, over the first few hours, it becomes less zesty, flowers come in, a soft rose that then slowly fades away and ends warmly. Chalou smells wonderfully soft and feminine. It lasts about 5-6 hours on me, but it can also be refreshed at lunchtime without any pain at that price.

Chalou, I adore you! Let’s travel together for a long time.

Renewed to Death
After a long break, I picked up Butter and Flour at Lidl again at the beginning of the year, going for Chalou Gold. I took the second-to-last bottle without testing it, as I already knew the scent. Back then it wasn't bad, even though it only bore a slight resemblance to J adore for me.

At home, then came the surprise. Instead of the familiar fragrance, there was first a synthetic, piercing start. Of course, that's typical for La Rive. But a different manufacturer is listed. After that, there was an undefinable mix of cucumbers, which shouldn't be there, and traces of Ylang Ylang, a punch of rose, and that was it. The cucumber unfortunately lingered stubbornly. With the flowers, it was a bit disgusting. The finish with sandalwood didn't save the situation either. All in all, a completely different scent that has nothing in common with the one from before, except for the name.

By no means can it be called a dupe of J adore. There are significantly better options available for little money.

Today I overheard a customer asking about the now sold-out fragrance, and it seems that it will be discontinued and not restocked.

For me, buying it was money thrown away. Even if it wasn't much.

Bargain Hunter
Thanks to the informative comments on Parfumo, I am transforming into a bargain hunter.

I am not a snob and do not need melodious brand names for my well-being.
On the contrary - something good at a low price pleases me even more.
That an expensive fragrance also has quality is something one can generally expect. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.
Some expensive fragrances are gathering dust on my shelves - the image was greater than my nose.

My best friend gifted me J´adore - a hit, as I really like it.
I wrote in a comment.
At Lidl, I definitely noticed the family resemblance to the beautiful original.
At home, I then did the comparison spray.
The mandarin top note is equally fruity - only J´adore can also boast a delicious banana note.
The mild rose is beautifully captured in Chalou as well.
But jasmine and sandalwood are represented very subtly.
For me, as a jasmine fan, a tad too sparingly.

On its own, Chalou is not a bad fragrance - but J´adore is significantly fuller, deeper, and more pronounced.

Now, after two hours, the original still shines on my wrist, while Chalou has already faded.
But the unbeatable price and the fact that for some, the light version may be more pleasant, speak in favor of the dupe.

Here too, it holds true - trying makes wise.

Cucumber Nightmare with Apricot Hair Treatment in the Greenhouse
After lingering around Lidl for a while without ever finding a tester for this perfume, I finally decided to buy it. I really like Madame Glamour, and the comments here gave me hope for something J'adore-like that might smell a bit softer and more floral.

No one mentioned cucumber scents, and as far as I remember (and I believe I have a relatively good scent memory), J'adore doesn’t have any cucumber notes.
However, Chalou smells exclusively of cucumber for the first half hour (and with a massive sillage, the entire living room smells of cucumber!), and then the fragrance oscillates for another half hour between cucumber, rose, and plastic peach shower gel.
Once the cucumber phase is over, the sillage is unfortunately so weak that the floral notes are only perceivable if I hold my nose directly to it, and even then they are still overshadowed by this artificial peach-apricot scent (the good old "peach lactone" - that’s exactly the same aroma that about 80% of all skincare products for dry skin smell like, and the reason why no one wanted to eat the apricot yogurt in kindergarten. And why most people can’t tell peach and apricot aromas apart). Well, the note is also present in the original - but by no means as overpowering, and J'adore has a few more floral notes that I can’t recall exactly off the top of my head, but I know they are missing here. You can already tell from the rose note that it is much flatter and duller here, more jam-like than floral.
After almost 3 hours, the fruity phase is mostly over, leaving a not unpleasant but very weak and slightly synthetic sandalwood finish with a remnant of flowers, especially rose, and vanilla. The plastic peach is still there, but it now somewhat blends into the other fragrance notes. It reminds me of some hand cream, I think one with marigolds, with a small hint of D&G - The One. This could be a decent scent if you could smell it without holding your nose directly to it.

So, if you want to smell like cucumber for a good three-quarters of an hour and then for 3 hours like Schauma 7-Flower Hair Treatment / Garnier Kids Shampoo / Kür Wheat Protein Conditioner for little money, you are well served here.
I unfortunately associate this specific scent note with hair dye, where the peach aroma is preferably used to cover the smell of ammonia. As a perfume, I find it correspondingly strange (also as gummy bears) and somehow... shabby? But apparently, many perceive the scent as "well-groomed" - for me, it’s one of those scent notes that you feel like you can taste on your tongue after a while, as if you had licked soap.
Overall, I have a constant impression of damp, muggy air. Something between a garden center and a shower stall.

As a substitute for J'adore, I don’t think it works at all. It doesn’t last particularly long, and the jasmine note, which was actually the reason I wanted to warm up to J'adore, is barely present and completely overwhelmed by cucumber and peach. The whole thing reminds me more of "Sunflowers".
Evaluating it as an independent fragrance, I find it horrible, artificial, and cheap. I’m really not a snob, but this smells like a kids' shampoo and not like a perfume.
Only the base is okay, but also quite weak.
At least Chalou Gold, like the other Lidl perfumes I’ve tested so far, doesn’t have that cheap scent-typical burning alcohol note that some La Rives and co. have. Although I would probably find that less bad than the cucumbers at the beginning.
Well, I have spent more money just to test a fragrance before.

A low budget fragrance well done, inspired to "J'adore" by Dior but more evanescent. It smells of White flowers with sweet notes

Cheapies are great... but this one copies J'adore (which I don't like anyway), is much clumsier, and just blooms dully. No thanks.

When Charlize Theron finds herself in the plain white bathtub of a social housing apartment. J'adore...yes, but in 100-fold dilution.

If you like J'Adore like I do, then this is a nice, lighter everyday version. The price is a joke. Just give it a try.

Like peach and pineapple with gold dust, a handful of yellow and orange flowers, and a pinch of powdered sugar.

My J'adore for work. It’s in my desk drawer. Delicate floral-fruity, just like the original EDP.

J'adore is richer and lasts longer, but it costs more than 10x as much. ;-) Chalou Gold is a nice alternative for (not just) everyday use!

For leaving the house seriously, this one always works. It’s really cheap, but smells better :) Absolutely recommended for tight budgets.
