Nice isn’t enough. I need more than Nice…

The loud chatter surrounding this perfume + my love for vanilla made me so confident in a blind buy of this. Thankful I got a decant first. Let’s start with the positive…

The white sugar note is distinguished and realistic on my skin. It’s a vanilla akin to Fire at Will but not as dense, more airy! The bottle is beautiful and the fragrance lasts a reasonable time. Plays well for layering. That’s all.

I don’t find this perfume remarkable. It’s nice…but I’m at a point where nice doesn’t cut it for my wardrobe. I also found the performance average. Maybe my high expectations played a part in the disappointment; in any case, it’s a simple vanilla that can be layered and is appropriate for all seasons. I can totally see how it is popular with sweet lovers but to me it is slightly overhyped and overpriced. As far as sugar vanillas go I much prefer Vanilla 28!

The frag. The myth. The legend.

Who doesn't know Escapade Gourmande? I certainly do and I've known of this perfume ever since I started my journey. Why? Because it's in every influencers' videos of best perfumes. I was thrilled to learn that Maison Mataha had finally made a deal with Etiket to bring it in Canada. This is what brought me to the store in the first place. Tried it out on paper and on my skin, and I knew right away it had to come home with me as a full bottle. Here's my review!

Fell for the hype, but this perfume isn't over-rated at all. One of the best vanilla out there, a staple for gourmands and vanilla lovers. Good for layering with other perfumes, but is also great for wearing on its own. The bottle is chic, heavy, minimalist, yet luxurious. When I unwrapped it, the scent (not the perfume) leaked out from the sprayer and permeated the whole bottle, like an aura of pure golden goodness, a testament of the strength and longevity of this perfume.

When I first sprayed it on my skin, I got this intense black sugar, almost charred and smoky scent. It's reminiscent of the smell of burnt marshmallows, those blackened bits that smell of fire and caramelized burnt sugar. After about 45 minutes, it evolves into what everybody raves about: that divine, scrumptious, luscious, marvelous, magnificent (okay I'm stopping) caramelized crème brûlée. Sweet, sugary, but no heaviness or cloying overwhelming scent. Instead, it's creamy, warm and comforting. If you like Tihota by Indult, these both share the same DNA, although Escapade Gourmande has a smoky facet to it.

I'm sold. I'll be wearing it during colder weather, marveling at how perfume can turn out this good. It's a great niche perfume and a permanent addition to my collection. Does it reinvent the wheel? Maybe not, but the combination of scent, longevity, sillage makes it a necessity to any collection.

My Favorite Vanilla!

Oh my goodness. This is GOOD!!! A fragrant friend of mine sent me a decant from her bottle and after wearing it one night, I could not stop thinking about it. This perfume smells like creme brulee vanilla deliciousness!! It starts out with a heavier feel then lightens up as I wear it, and I am in a cloud of creme brulee all day. I do not get any smokiness from it whatsoever, just creamy vanilla with a brown sugar feel. Wow, I mean Kyse's Bonbons a la Vanille is my holy grail vanilla but this baby, it is right there in a very tightly squeezed second place to my beloved vanilla. Escapade Gourmande not only smells delicious but it lasts all day on me and I only use two sprays on my clothes (it is extrait de parfum so more concentrated). I can seriously still smell this after 12+ hours easily! I purchased a full bottle and it is displayed on my vanity looking so gorgeous! It's heavy and so shiny and looks luxurious! This is one of the best vanillas I have ever found. If you love vanillas like Vanille West Indies, Kyse Bonbons a la Vanille, and Indult Tihota, and you love literal gourmand perfumes, I think you will absolutely love this one.

Cozy sugary scent, not too powerful, and linear. Good for most occassions and casual stuff. I can see myself wearing this... Sometimes... I guess.
Not much to say about this really.

Painfully boring though, I'd rather spend my money's worth on other fragrances.

Great Scent

I definitely get the base of pink sugar. You must realize it has more aromatic notes. I can definitely see the resemblance! This smells like a cheap perfume I had. Almost as if you cook caramel wayyy too long. Super similar to the Vaniglia without the heavy warm caramel note. This leans more cold caramel. Smells like the stroopwaffle cookies. Easy pass for me I will stick with Tihota.

Update: it's a good layer fragrance. Try this with Killer Vavoom, Cherry on Top or Prada Night
If you've tried the Marshmallow by Calgon or Body Fantasies Brown Sugar. Do you find this similar?

I'm trying to remember but it's been years since I've smelled either of them. Maybe CVS will still have the Calgon.
