Oh Deirdre, you did it again
Though rhubarb is a heart note, I really get most of it in the opening (first 5 min). It's got this kind of tangy, jammy, almost wine-like scent. When that takes off (pretty quickly), it has airy, earthy qualities, like petrichor but not quite. I imagine this is thanks to the eucalyptus and winter green. I didn't like the opening very much at all, but the dry down is quite nice. Doesn't read smoky on my skin like some scents advertised as incense usually do. It's more like the room after the incense has been burned and the windows are open.

I've seen people say it smells like a metaphysical shop, but it's less Earthbound Trading Co in the mall circa 2005, and more like a plant and crystal shop with big windows in a small woowoo town (read: Eureka Springs or Lilydale) owned by a 63 year old woman with great skin and beautiful long curly silver hair named Deirdre. It's more sunny and open than dark and deep. Fairy circle, not seance.

I would say this is appropriate for warm weather, because it's so earthy and airy to me. The spiciness definitely gives it a year-round quality though. I could see the winter green really coming in strong on a frosty day.

Bold and artistic scent, though not for me personally
Female Christ's opening is a huge, romantic sweep of damp, earthy patchouli, vanilla, and flowers that makes me think I know where this is going, except that instead of chocolate, the lingering impression is that of high-roast coffee, mixed with heavy cream and rhubarb compote. It is heavy, aromatic, and fruitily sour, with the eucalyptus note providing a sharp greenness that might be camphor but might also just be crushed spearmint leaves. The effect is so blown out with the musky grey-whiteness of cashmeran that you get flashes of the notes rather than a clear picture.

Very quickly though, things start to fall apart and as soon as you start to make out the individual components, the overall effect is immediately less charming. The fruitiness of the rhubarb and the vague creaminess of the white flowers conspire to create an insistent tuberose note that dominates the entire mid-section of the scent. Rubbery, florid, and overblown, this is where Female Christ smells more like Café Tuberosa (Atelier Cologne) mixed with Tyger Tyger (Bianchi) and Fracas (Piguet) and less like a cool Danish art experiment.

Yet, the traditionally feminine and sweet-plasticky-fruity-floral layers of this fragrance are stretched over a framework of an extremely dusty, hoary patchouli (think Vierges et Toreros) that smells like the small cupboard under our stairs at home where our coats, old toys, unused files, and assorted knick knacks went to die, so you have the conventionally pretty uneasily mixed with something old-mannish and dusty. The vanilla is very sweet and blooms all over the drydown, but that too clashes with the sourness and air of neglect created by the aromatics and patchouli. Female Christ is appropriately confrontational. It gives me the originality I crave but not the cohesiveness of design I need to wear it on the regular. It is a good mile marker, however, on this patchouli journey I am on. It shows me where my hard stops are.

Empowering Femininity
‘Female Christ’ – An interesting name that evokes a feeling of power in me. The initial spritz is dry, as dry as and old book or dusty old library. But then suddenly something warm emerges, almost metallic. Like you are walking in the middle of a concrete jungle, in the middle of the summer, and you feel the sweltering sun vibrate in front of you.

After a while you really smell what this one has to offer. This is woody, spicy, but fresh and floral at the same time. It transforms into a humid night. Like walking home from having had a few drinks. You walk through a park and breathe in the fresh night air. You reach for a gum with eucalyptus flavour to hide the taste in your mouth from that last fireball shot you had. The eucalyptus and cinnamon blended with that patchouli gets almost magical in my opinion. Walking barefoot over the grass when you get caught in a sudden late summer rain. Coming home and your clothes are wet and damp and smelling of grass. That is when I am that empowered female Christ.

As I said initially, I think the concept of this perfume is intriguing. Fortunately the actual juice itself delievers and is actually pretty captivating when it gets to that green and spicy drydown. It is a beautiful autumn fragrance that is worthy of a place in my collection.

Feeling Emotional at the Metaphysical Store
Sweet incense from the metaphysical store at the mall. Reminds me so much of my wannabe hippie teenage phase. Feels warm and ambery, slightly sticky and smoky. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be really similar to some of my other more incense/metaphysical scents, but i’m surprised with how the sweetness blends out those more harsh notes. There’s a hint of sharp greens and minty/menthol vibe, but in a very green and natural way instead of going to ozonic to me (makes sense with that patchouli eucalyptus combo - I wrote my thoughts without reading the notes) It totally would be like an ultra feminine church scent. I could see this being the same vibe as ethel cains music. Sad, yearning, nostalgic, full of passion and emotion.

Intriguing
The first sniff, i got the patchouli but mixed with something intriguing (maybe the pimento or rhubard) and after the warmth starts to peak more and more as it dries down.
It's sharp and the patchouli dominates but it's also very comforting and versatile, in my opinion. I can see any gender and any season but the first image i got was a mysterious woman wearing a voluminous kaftan in a riad.

Initial spray was spicy grape syrup on a dry erase marker. Then cheap vanilla body mist sprayed on a pile of old dirt. So bummed

Smells like cherry chapstick and patchouli. Also kinda like walking into LUSH store. Not bad… but not for me.

Dynamic after dry down, oscillating between sweet herbs and sensual earthiness. An alluring and strange, but benevolent, witch. Lovely!

I get dry fenugreek leaves (methi) and fenugreek seeds, with a touch of dried mint. Dries down to a light sweetness. Needs time to develop.
