Bubblegum in the Head, Revolution in the Heart & Love in the Base - Finally, a Grown-Up and Wearable Bubblegum Scent Without Neon Brightness!
I have already written about the brand. Therefore, this will only focus on the scent:

1. Expectations

Regarding the naming, wording, the colors used, and after reviewing the marketing pyramid, I expected Pink Jesus to contain a loud, garish, and somewhat kitschy counterculture in a bottle, depicting the American spirit of the countercultural youth movement from the late 60s into the 70s in an exaggerated fragrance.

I initially thought of the sweet-bubblegum scent "Female Christ | 19-69," released in 2019, which aims to evoke the Copenhagen performance of artists Lene Adler Petersen and Bjørn Nørgaard, or the thrice-renamed fragrance "June 28 / Christopher / Christopher Street / Sag Harbor | 19-69," which identifies with the international Pride movement, alongside other brand stereotypes like Purple Haze and "Higher Peace | 19-69."

So, I expected a loud, exhausting, unbearable, and eye-catching scent that might have fascinating provocative value but is unusable as a perfume.

2. Subjective (Emotional) Description

With these prejudices in mind, I began testing the scent almost annoyed and casually, already expecting to spray a sweet, screaming bubblegum monster that would laugh kitschy and colorful in my face and give me a headache; just to "get it over with."

I never thought I would discover a bubblegum scent that does not come off as overly artificial-sweet and super loud, but is truly wearable and even comes across as quite grown-up, while still being playful, sensual, and radiantly joyful, yet swimming against the current. Super!

That evening, I must have smelled the test strip a hundred times, getting up repeatedly, and finally testing it on my skin, where it was just as wonderfully delightful as on paper and developed even more beautifully regarding the dry down. The scent accompanied me into the next morning.

In three simple words, the Pink Jesus bubblegum+ scent is;

VIBRANT. LOVING. MODERN!

3. Objective Description

Pink Jesus opens with a clear and dominant bubblegum note that transforms from a less sharp (because blue) ginger into a three-dimensional, grown-up overall top note, which, unlike typical bubblegum accords, does not become exhausting. This profile of the top note runs throughout the entire fragrance, which explains how the scent transforms through all three phases and continually reveals new facets. So, it never gets boring with Pink Jesus.

Halfway through, a terpene note of hemp joins in, contributing an earthy-woody, slightly damp, and minimally herbal characteristic. Really well done, and this is where the transformation of the modern Jesus begins. Vanilla and galbanum provide warmth and a natural sweetness that fits the style of the scent well, without escalating the sweetness to an unbearable level. On the contrary: through sage and the mentioned mild ginger, the scent retains an astonishing degree of good mood (lightness & transparency) and thus preserves its grown-up qualities that I appreciate so much about this fragrance.

The cypriol used is olfactorily perceived as a mix of the popular Caribbean vetiver from Haiti and slightly earthy patchouli with fine oud-like nuances. The gently spicy, soft cedar (woods) achieve a perfect balance of warmth, smoothness, and distinctive smokiness. Brilliant.

Despite the known fragrance structure, Pink Jesus offers certain transparent & fresh aspects alongside the warm resinous scents and ambered wood tones. These qualities are certainly partly due to the galbanum used, which allows the bright, barely woody, and mild - thus not sharp - ginger to breathe, as well as being attributed to the sage note, which provides this rather atypical scent profile with a pleasant interplay of lightness.

Looking further at the fragrance pyramid, one can already sense that the scent holds remarkably well. On paper, I could enjoy the scent gently but distinctly for several days, and on my skin, the blend of bubblegum and base notes lasted until the next morning. Sillage and projection align with the grown-up qualities of this cheerful and modern fragrance and are accordingly not overwhelmingly intense, but always pleasantly noticeable without overwhelming the wearer or others around them with this presence.

I tend to see the scent as a fun, varied, and cool casual fragrance - also great for evenings, festivals, and thematically related occasions :)

4. Historical Context vs. Cultural Influence

Pink Jesus is a wearable, grown-up bubblegum scent that modernly interprets the spirit of the 60s and 70s hippie years into the punk & cyberpunk counterculture of the 80s and 90s, not only reminding of that time and capturing a feeling but also reviving this era with all its facets for me.

Coming from the heart of this era, this scent fills me with a very good feeling, even though my personal peak of this time span lies a few decades back.

Pink Jesus creates something that neither has to rely on specific narratives nor clings to the usual stereotypes - and does so without falling into a nostalgia of "everything was better back then" or disrespecting or belittling the peace movement in our own countries during that time. It is also nice that this scent works completely apart from the hair-rock ballads of the late 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s.

5. Technical-Commercial Factors, Material Design & Target Audience

Pink Jesus falls within the usual price structure of 19-69. The H/S/P is beyond doubt and fits the character of this scent. One can only hope that for Pink Jesus, alongside the 100-ml full size, the smaller sizes of 30 ml or the 9-ml travel size that I appreciate so much will also be released, which is not the case at the time of this review. I personally find the smaller packages visually more appealing than the full-size bottles of the brand.

The packaging of the 19-69 fragrances is designed to be simple and minimalist across all bottle sizes. The tactile feel of the packaging with the tangible 19-69 fonts feels premium, and the bottles are printed cleanly using screen printing. The sprayers and caps are mid-range but acceptable. The spray pattern of all atomizers is industry-standard. Overall, the packaging of the 19-69 fragrances serves its purpose and is pleasing without getting lost in unnecessary embellishments.

P/L is fitting for me for what one gets if this type of scent appeals to them. I think that one can enjoy Pink Jesus for a long time, as it delivers a potent but not tactless performance.

6. Conclusion

One of the coolest picks from Q1/25. Grown-up, cheerful, vibrant, and completely without the annoying kitsch - but with a dose of social disobedience :)

A fantastic scent that I can't stop smelling for days. Period!

Peeking through the elegant floral blue veil. An ashtray with gum spotted on a stained wooden table. Dust dances in the sunbeam.

For me, hardly any gum, if at all, minimally unsweet. Extremely floral and powerful. Later softer, floral-woody, a bit of vanilla. Distinctive!

Gum-like hippie boho hemp scent. I like - successful galbanum combo. Ultimate summer scent for chillout fans. Linear but with a twist.

Quieter and greener than I expected. I thought it would be more like chewing gum. I mainly smell the hemp and a bit of soapiness.

Slightly synthetic, for me it mainly smells like freshly harvested marijuana and green notes. I really don't want to smell like weed.
