Lime in the limelight
Last year Guerlain used lime in their "Limon verde" AA-scent and this year the house of 4711 released a new EdC also featuring lime as a key-ingredient. I must say that I prefer the new "Acqua Colonia" to the Guerlain, because it smells much purer and there are no connotations to the famous Caipirinia (which is a lovely cocktail, but which I don't want to wear on my skin).
The initial burst of lime in the 4711-fragrance is gorgeous and very refreshing. Since "Lime and nutmeg" is a genuine Eau de Cologne, the scent seems to fade away after 10 minutes, but actually it lasts much longer, because the slightly woody-spicy basenote will accompany you for hours after application. As far as the nutmeg is concerned, I can perceive it quite clearly in the beginning, but it morphs into the woodsy-spicy base I already mentioned. All of this is a subtle development, very well done. Please note that the nutmeg in this new Cologne doesn't smell like the spice you use in your kitchen. Together with the initial lime and the woody elements this scent manages to smell extremely fresh in the beginning and woody-spicy in the end, with the sour part of the lime-scent forming a continous presence.
"Lime and Nutmeg" is a fizzy, fresh pick-me-up scent for everybody who loves lime in combination with a spicy touch and Geza Schön is a master perfumer. So what you get here is a quality product from Germany embedded in the great tradition of the house of 4711 in Cologne.

Surprising
I had a pleasant time in this yesterday.

My motivation in purchasing this six months ago was to serve as an aftershave, having used 4711 in the same manner.
So in referencing 4711 to this, I expected Lime and Nutmeg to act the same in hold as well citrus freshness.

And it does.

However, I have been pleasantly surprise with the stronger hold than perceived as well as a sweeter/musky depth it emits.

There's a little more than nutmeg in this! The nutmeg couldn't be the only note providing such sweet musk. ( I love nutmeg btw)
Is it Tonka perhaps? The sweetness is mild but it's there.
Yet, the sweetness never takes away from the lime, the exceptional lime, in this. It's a bitter lime, familiar, maybe it's the bitterness that is adding to the sweeter tones I'm experiencing.

Another surprise with Lime and Nutmeg ...is that it reminds me of a favorite fragrance I use to love, from Bath and Body Works called 'Coconut, Lime, Verbena'. It's the sweet musk I wasn't anticipating in Lime and Nutmeg that gives me those vibes.
(BTW: there is no coconut in Lime and Nutmeg)

Due to deeper base note, this hold more like a light-ish toilette, than a cologne. It's not a pronounce fragrance or anything, but the lime and sweet musk still exist close to the skin well after 4 hours, unlike famous colognes such as Guerlain Eau De Imperiale and Fleurs De Cedrat, ...or ..well...4711.

Lime and Nutmeg is a pleasant surprise that I can't stop sniffing and surprisingly, can't stop applying, although multiple time a day, but less than 4711

Flashback in the Drugstore
As a (younger) child, I loved playing "perfume maker."
I was completely fascinated by crushing different flowers (lemon blossoms mmmmm!), herbs (I thought lovage was great, and the Maggi herb smells exactly like Maggi, just better!), fruits (lime, delicious!) and even more so leaves (from maple to lemon leaves) and smearing them behind my ear or on my wrists - and of course on any available victim nearby.

Unfortunately, the result never lasted long. The lovely scent disappeared in less than half an hour.
I still believe that something decent could have come out of me if my parents had just given me pure alcohol and a still when I was four years old.

I have a sensitive nose. Not an overly sensitive or trained one (I still need to practice identifying scent notes) but simply one that only needs a small amount of fragrance.
I honestly never complain about the lack of "stickiness" of perfumes.
It can't be close enough to my body, and I can smell most perfumes on me for at least a day.
So I like to use perfume in homeopathic doses; for example, I still have half of the 30ml Energizing Fragrance I bought at the beginning of the millennium, even though I use it (well, not constantly, but regularly), and I always wonder why anyone needs any perfume in such hospital quantities as 75ml.

But: Geza Schön must have done exactly the same with the lime!
It smells so fresh, so delicious, so natural!
And half an hour after spraying it on, it's gone.

As I read now (http://www.sueddeutsche.de/stil/duft-der-parfuemeur-aus-der-stinkhoehle-1.2970434) about how unusual a perfume artist Geza Schön is, I wonder if this is intentional.
It’s probably an "I-remember-my-beginnings-as-a-perfumer-AND-THIS-IS-SUPPOSED-TO-BE!-artwork."

(Maybe it was also due to the other perfumes in the drugstore and too much experimenting on my part; I will definitely try Acqua de Colonia Lime & Nutmeg again and possibly update the comment then)

P.S. The nutmeg is just a very small background note in the perfume, on my skin, and therefore also in this comment, which is hardly noticeable but makes it more interesting, just right for my taste.

Delicious, light, and rounded: Lime on Nutmeg
Geza Schön has done a wonderful job: a simple yet profound duet of very fresh & authentically presented lime and a beautifully rounded nutmeg.
This Lime-Nutmeg Cologne is, in my opinion, one of the best of the 4711 refreshing waters; it truly reaches the Guerlain level of the Aqua Allegorias in terms of its straightforward yet convincing composition.
The longevity of this delicious nutmeg lime for a cologne is also quite good, although not quite as enduring and front-and-center as the Guerlain mandarins, grapefruits, and neroli duets. It fits perfectly in spring and summer.

Beautiful Exercise in Fragrance
This scent is my first 4711 fragrance after the classic one that I am testing from this brand. Since I had not engaged with the brand before, I approached the test with hardly any expectations. It was clear to me that I would be smelling a fresh cologne scent. I was also very curious because the "Molecule inventor" Geza Schön designed the fragrance.

Fragrance Development:
The opening is wonderfully zesty-lime, very natural and invigorating. The hesperidic note quickly softens, leaning slightly towards the orangey direction and is already subtly creamy underneath. A light, gently spicy note (nutmeg) then joins in quite swiftly.
Both named components are evenly distributed and well coordinated, creating a citrusy-fruity, nutmeg-soft scent impression that gradually becomes increasingly creamy-soapy in nuances.
In this composition, the fragrance lingers until it fades away. The overall impression is consistently natural and moderately refined. I would have wished for it to be a bit finer.

Longevity and Sillage:
On me, the fragrance lasted a good 8 hours, which is a remarkable duration for such a naturally appearing cologne. The sillage was quite restrained throughout the entire duration.

Conclusion:
The Lime & Nutmeg is a naturally appearing, appropriately fine, and optimally invigorating Eau de Cologne with two very well-matched components. A lovely exercise by the perfumer!

Geza and his iso-E at it again! Basically a warm-woody spicy scent with lime only at the top. Weak but well blended and leaning masculine.

Really like this one during the hot summer days. Very light you can overspray if you want better performances. Masculine scent to me.

I find the nutmeg slightly more dominant than the lime. A refreshing combination, but the nutmeg gives it a slightly masculine touch for me.
