Wooden Planks and Leather by Lake Como
In Milan, I received Rivarama as a gift on the sidelines of a business appointment. During a dinner by Lake Como, which promised a bit of freshness on this far too hot summer day, the business meeting was to conclude in a pleasant atmosphere.
Before dinner, I took a refreshing shower, opened the packaging of the perfume that is designed with stripes reminiscent of the wooden planks of luxurious speedboats. Afterwards, I held the unembellished small bottle in my hand, which featured a cap that shone silver like the chrome applications on the now priceless boats from the 1950s. Looking down at the bottle, one can see under Plexiglas a replica of a ship's propeller. It's very nicely done, even if the materials could have been chosen to be a bit more high-quality.
Before I wear a fragrance in public, I like to try it out, but this time I made an exception to thank the giver for their thoughtfulness. So I carefully applied Rivarama and immediately found myself in a pleasant environment.
I spent the evening on the terrace of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo overlooking Lake Como. The five-star establishment is housed in a splendid building from the early 19th century, complete with an extensive park and more than generous access to the lake. From the terrace, one not only looks out over the water but also at the opposite wooded slopes.
All evening long, I was surrounded by a scent that seemed made for this place. Warm, woody notes and occasionally a refreshing breeze that brought a hint of sea air. Sometimes it seemed to me that I could smell the white soft leather of the sun lounger of a Riva boat. Those interested in water sports know that Rivarama shares only the name with Mr. Carlo Riva's boats; otherwise, they are luxury yachts equipped with the latest technology, and the hull is no longer made of wood but of modern synthetic fibers. What remains is the luxury and unmistakability. It seemed to me that the fragrance experienced a similar fate; it was definitely classic, yet at the same time very modern.
The fragrance harmoniously combines style and Mediterranean lightness - that effortless sovereignty that one can probably only radiate as an Italian, even when sitting in a completely overpriced Michelin-star restaurant where even on the terrace, the dress code (suit + tie) must be adhered to. The fragrance did not lose intensity throughout the evening and has since become a loyal companion to me.
