Freshly Showered Through the Desert
I can’t quite remember who brought this fragrance to my attention. In any case, I had it on my wish list for a long time, and it so happened that I recently conducted a sharing for White Incense, as I finally wanted to know what this fresh Arab was all about. The selection of shops offering this fragrance is not very large; to be precise, there was only one (reputable) online retailer, directly from the United Arab Emirates. Since it seemed that several other perfume lovers, like me, were also interested in this scent, the sharing filled up very quickly. The delivery time was quite long, but the retailer had truthfully indicated this in advance. Well, the wait was truly worth it from my nose, …uh, point of view.
I have generally committed myself olfactorily to freshness and bitterness. Too much Oriental doesn’t usually catch my attention, but exceptions prove the rule. Now to the fragrance….
The top note promises nothing good. I smell a gasoline-like, sweet wood with a hint of cologne! This can’t be true, I thought. I waited so long for this? It reminds me a bit of Lempicka Homme, which I didn’t find too bad as a perfume, but it really wasn’t my thing. B.U.T. then it really takes off:
The gasoline scent transforms towards the bergamot orange and turns the steering wheel around, away from the punishment assignment in the souk (department for abandoned fragrances), towards budding enthusiasm. I don’t know what it is, maybe the jasmine or the white orchid, but White Incense takes a twist in a very special and unique direction. Here, the comparison with CdG Kyoto comes to mind, which has a calming effect with its light and restrained incense. Only that White Incense has an additional special freshness. I’ll call it Arab freshness. Not a "Note de Yuzu" citrus bomb and no "Gentle fluidity" premium synthetic freshness, but rather a subtle, restrained, light neroli-like and spicy freshness. Neroli is not listed in the notes, but I believe I can smell it. The oud remains shyly in the background, which I like.
Unfortunately, the longevity is also quite shy. After 3-4 hours, the scent noticeably fades and becomes an aura that completely disappears from me after 8 hours. But somehow that fits well with White Incense. From the start, it doesn’t want to be intrusive, comes across completely wrong out of insecurity, is a bit introverted, and gives its all. But at some point, it has to retreat again to recharge for the next performance.
The bottle itself doesn’t look very high-quality. The white square cap is made of plastic and is really cheaply made. But I don’t want to complain.
White Incense is a special fragrance for me, and I’m glad to have gotten to know it. Maybe I’ll buy it again. Is it special? Yes! But it’s not quite the secret and undiscovered top star that some claim it to be in my nose. However, my fragrance universe has been expanded with an unusual and rare scent.
Thank you for reading
