The Infidel
This has to be the most coziest fragrance
in my collection and and it represents
the Swedish culture with it's cool reserved friendliness and an fiery history
of the Vikings reflects the duel nature
of the country.

I first applied this to my skin a blast of
warm and velvet bergamot rushed my senses
like a fleece quilt wrapped around you
keeping you warm on a winter's night
as you step out from a wooded cabin nestled in the middle of a dense Scandinavian forest to enjoy the glowing
flames of fire burning to keep warm
to part take the rich melodies from the
villagers throughout the night.

then dries down to a hearty note of raw lavender non synthetic just grounded
lavender to awaking the senses a few minutes later dry note of caraway with it's spicy aroma warms the sense of beauty for the nose and the mind'
The black current is hard to detect
from my nose if magnolia is present ether it's faint or it blends well with
bergamot magnolia also is an hard note
to notice.

The drydown is a sweet warm esemble
of amber with woodish raisin nuances of Labdanum and the diluted patchouli
brings to an earthy end to an fragrant
masterpiece.

The Infidels, also a fragrance for couples
This Easter, a visit to KaDeWe was on the agenda during our trip to Berlin. I have been creating my own perfumes for many years, and yet I still find myself in "danger" of buying a fragrance, preferably from brands that are (still) unknown to me. A good atmosphere and a really friendly and dedicated salesperson at a small stand led to the purchase of two scents, namely Onyx Pearl and The Infidels by Agonist. I will comment on Onyx Pearl another time; here, it's about "The Infidels," which made its presence known to me once again today.
To be clear, it starts with a successful fragrance pyramid and good sillage. When I tested the scent in Berlin, it seemed less sweet to me than it does today.
The first impression on (my) skin is quite creamy, almost rich at the outset, with blackcurrant pushing forward paired with ylang-ylang.
I have to get past this initial hurdle, and just a few minutes later, I sense memories of the good old days of the early seventies. It’s not the patchouli that I remember from that time, but rather a finer, subtler version supported by soft floral aspects. A wonderful and successful attempt to blend magnolias and roses with jasmine in a way that contributes to a sense of well-being. I do not experience the sharpness sometimes attributed to clove and black pepper; rather, the warmth inherent in these notes provides me with comfort, and I can almost indulge in a fragrance that can certainly be worn, especially in the late hours.
If one wants to start noticing linearity after about 20 minutes, one will be proven wrong. Amber, labdanum, and aspects of worn leather ground the scent in the base, and somehow I also think I recognize earthy notes like in a forest after a warm summer rain.
I like the tonka bean that quietly says hello here and there, as well as the subtle vanilla aspects. Overall, a really beautiful and friendly fragrance that I will probably wear this evening with my beloved. Yes, you guessed it right, she wants to wear it too. So let’s indulge together in old times. The strength to accompany us until the next morning can be assumed, and I like good scents that are striking on one hand, extraordinary on the other, but never intrusive. All of this is promised to me by The Infidels, and it has now found its place in the front row of my almost daily changing selection. Perhaps it is also made for the dreary, gray season to bring a little warmth, comfort, and light.
One last word about the bottle. It fits nicely in my hand, is made elegantly, and the labeling is exceptionally chic, seemingly part of the glass in the manufacturing process. Successful and valuable, all at a really acceptable price that I often miss with the big names.

A piece of cake that doesn't make you fat!
The wrinkled tonka bean seems to be dedicated to this perfume. It has a vanilla-like aroma but goes beyond pure vanilla scent: dark, rough, yet also ethereal aspects come into play. This gives the tonka bean an earthy aspect. Imagine a handful of potting soil enriched with vanilla aroma - that's the direction tonka takes in perfumes. It is dirtier than vanilla could ever be. I think the aroma of the tonka bean is an essential component of perfumes like Gaultier's Le Male, Body Kouros, or Nikos Sculpture. Both inexpensive perfumes like J'S Exté Man and classics like Guerlain's Jicky utilize it.

Just like vanilla, the scent of the tonka bean in perfumes tends toward opulence. Sometimes it can come off as fat or intrusive. Just look at the controversial opinions about a perfume like Le Male; the tonka bean is certainly not entirely innocent in this regard.

And that's what The Infidels is about: tonka bean is presented in such a way that its specific aroma comes fully into play, while simultaneously avoiding any broad, intrusive opulence. This is achieved with a delicately fresh top note, which is already a small masterpiece on its own. And probably with lavender. It has been used subtly, so that it does not stand out as such. The result of such a sparing dosage of lavender is, in my experience, that a perfume gains an ethereal, floating character without smelling too lavender-like or herbal.

The base notes also hold back and only support the scent. After a while, I even perceive The Infidels as slightly powdery.

The Infidels is quite something special. If the goal was to slim down the tonka bean, then it has been achieved. Everything feels very light and discreet, yet still has oriental power. In this direction, The Infidels is a very Scandinavian-simple, puristic scent.

The Infidels is also a special perfume in its presentation: not a spray, but available in a stick bottle. Nevertheless, it is not an oil; it has a normal consistency. I find this quite unusual and perhaps not particularly practical. Moreover, there is no quantity indication; one has to be satisfied with the information that the egg-shaped bottle occupies a space of 14 x 10 x 9 cm. The price for this is steep - €409, of which part is likely attributed to the Scandinavian design of the bottle. That is clearly too expensive. I would consider a price around €100 to be reasonable. For it is by no means four times better than - let's say - Guerlain's Jicky!

So, this comparison is something The Infidels must also contend with. Next to a Jicky in all its genius, the puristic concept of The Infidels can also be perceived as somewhat bloodless.

The Infidels is a puristic, elitist scent that is offered at a high price and in an unusual presentation. Surely, only a few perfume enthusiasts will ultimately want to acquire it.

Many thanks to Kankuro for the sample!

Romantic movie fans can rejoice now: There is a happy ending here. While you sit in the cinema for two hours not knowing if anything will come of it, I can reassure you right away: Yes, in the end, everyone cuddles together. I usually don't care whether the people on the screen all die or reside happily ever after in charming city villas and have three to five well-behaved children. The point is mainly that with a happy conclusion to the film's plot, the willingness of the moviegoer beside me to come up for a coffee afterwards increases. It's similar with perfume: Those who smell good have advantages.

However, before the main characters find each other, a good hour and a half passes. We are dealing with a rather complicated story, at the beginning of which our main character, Magnolia, has a disastrous relationship with a jerk named Cumin. They scream at each other the whole time, and you don't understand why they endure each other for so long. The story is so against the nature of things that you wonder why you even let yourself be dragged into the film. (Then you remember: The coffee afterwards.) So you endure it stoically and think: You can't switch channels here.
At some point, Cumin lies dead on the ground, and the audience slowly begins to see the light. While you blamed the guy the whole time for nothing working out, it was actually Magnolia who was the nuisance causing quite a stir. Here, the story takes a turn from social drama to a coming-of-age film. Magnolia meets someone (Lavender), who becomes her (purely platonic) friend and teaches her to rein in her temper - without having any erotic interest in the beast himself.
Magnolia only becomes truly normal when she is willing to compromise a bit for true love. Ultimately, she finds happiness in a ménage à trois with Tonka, a sweet guy from the Caribbean, and Amber, who has always been fascinated by women's skin.
Here, you also realize that the plot is not about romance, but about sex. No one is looking for love here, but rather maximizing pleasure. It is precisely because of its last part that the film received its 18+ rating. Whether one wants to endure the first hour and a half, in which the main character just complains and is completely incapable of relationships, is something everyone has to decide for themselves. The ending isn't really revolutionary either, but at least there are some quite attractive people who get naked in the breathtaking landscape of Labdachouli. Seeing someone like Magnolia in this constellation doesn't happen too often, which could be because the director must understand his craft incredibly well to skillfully stage his main character. This is not always achieved here.

Why the DVD is only available in the incredibly ugly and overpriced collector's edition is something only the marketing strategists of the film distributor know.

A new must-have!
Hello hello? Surely there is someone here who can no longer stand their Infidels fragrance, right??
(hard to imagine actually, but there is nothing that doesn’t exist after all. Or: I can at least give it a try..)
So: I would be willing to make the sacrifice, okay? I sacrifice myself to give a neglected little fragrance a new home full of security, love, attention, and respect; all of that it would receive from me. And integration into my fragrance collection as a constructive extension of my highly personal patchouli line. That’s what it is for me, a - I repeat myself, I’ve already written this in my statement, but I can’t emphasize it enough - delicately floral noble patchouli charmer. At first a bit strict and herbal (hello, just a little bit!!), then velvety and more than agreeable. After 10 minutes on my Lovethems list, it has smoothly nestled its way into my must-haves list. Does anyone want to read details about the perceivable fragrance notes over time? The colleagues below have more discerning noses, so you can read nicely about the individual scent sensations. Unfortunately, I can’t provide that. One might also note the impressive amount of ingredients in this regard. In my opinion, they create a perfect interplay; everything fits together perfectly. The individual components do not stand alone but accumulate together to a perfect result.
Noble patchouli charmer, delicately floral. Beautiful. Must have. Yes!

Despite the rich pyramid, it's more of a light smoky-resin hippie scent, carried by a lovely patchouli. What a pity, ...

The composition of the ingredients evolves into a delicate floral noble patchouli charmer for me. It starts strong and becomes irresistibly soft.
