Fruity floral heaven

Amouage Guidance is a fragrance that opens up with a beautiful and crisp pear note that captures the essence of the fruit's juicy and airy nature. As the fragrance begins to settle, it transforms into a fruity and floral bouquet with the apricot-driven osmanthus taking the center stage. The fragrance has subtle hints of leather that adds depth and complexity to the scent. Guidance has a lovely and attractive aroma. It has a sweet and fruity scent, but initially, it might have a slightly sour or tangy smell which I believe is due to the presence of olibanum that gives a citrus-like essence, combined with pear to create a tangy pear explosion. Gradually, it settles into a sweet and fruity aroma where the most prominent scent is the apricot from the osmanthus. As time passes, a more creamy and milky vanilla-like aroma emerges, still blended with the fruity essence, and I think I can sense a hint of hazelnut, although it's difficult to discern the exact ingredients.

The sweetness of the rose emerges from the heart of the fragrance, but it's not overpowering or jammy. Instead, it blends smoothly with the jubilant jasmine, creating a perfect harmony between the blooming flowers and the juicy fruit trees. There is also a subtle touch of saffron present in the fragrance, which works to support the rose note, adding an extra layer of sophistication and depth. The saffron note provides a slight spicy undertone to the fragrance, creating a beautiful balance between the floral and fruity elements.

Guidance is a stunning fragrance that is both fruity and floral, with a subtle hint of spice. It is declared as a unisex perfume, although in my opinion it is more feminine. It's not my type of perfume and I probably would never wear it, but I still liked it, there's something about it that draws you in and enchants you. Give it time...

I was so close to buying a full bottle after reading the notes and so many rave reviews but this was not at all what I expected. Woosh! This is a strange one!

The initial blast was something synthetic and animalic. It smelled like a human musk to me. But also mixed with something chemical and synthetic.

As it dried, it got a little better. I couldn't remember the notes, but it smelled like artificial cherry flavoring. It reminds me of a fresh bin of red licorice that's still in the plastic container. It's very artificial and fruity.

When it finally reaches the base notes, only then do I see what all the hype was about. Suddenly it transformed into a nutty, velvety
creaminess. It feels like it just melds so beautifully with my own skin and becomes a part of me.

Glad I sampled this so I can finally stop wondering about, but jeez what a Rollercoaster! Be warned: you need to give this one time to "settle." Don't judge too quickly and definitely do not blind buy!

Where do I begin? As others have mentioned, this composition is difficult to describe, but it is extraordinary. I don't do score cards, but Guidance is a 10. Amouage has defied the laws of gravity when it comes to the note pyramid. Never have I ever seen olibanum or hazelnut listed as a top note. The show opens with an innocent pear note, but not long before a thick veil of hazelnut glaze consumes the senses. Despite 3 floral heart notes present, they are never acting alone as this fragrance remains gourmand throughout the entirety of wear. Just when you think it's too sweet, you are compelled to keep smelling because it's so addictive! It's gourmet dessert in a foreign country, but in the most sophisticated way.

Olibanum, a balsamic note that has an aroma of incense. Ambergris, a humid and earthy component. Sandalwood, woody accents and often powdery. These foundations all provide a unique balance and also assist in countering the sweeter elements in this creation. I applied this fragrance last night after a shower and yet it's lingering as if it were applied today. You can never escape the creamy, sultry, delectable sweetness. The tenacity is almost surreal. Although an EDP, this concentration would be considered Pure Perfume by designer standards. If you're wanting love from strangers and by "love" I mean compliments, dabble in Guidance.

Pretty in pink

The frankincense in the opening makes it somewhat interesting while the fruitiness dominates. The pear gives a lot of sweetness and adds a youthful quality to it. In the dry down a floral spiciness takes over and it becomes more mature and feminine. There's very little sweetness after an hour or two. As with other Amouage fragrances it is very well blended and hard to pick out individual notes. I can see this being an inoffensive office lady fragrance and an easy grab as a crowd pleaser. Longevity and sillage are great. One spray lingered on me for almost 8hr. It's pretty but a tad too conservative for me.

Akigalawood overshadows what could have been

I am so glad I got a decant and never fell for the FOMO on social media. It's been hyped by many influencers I follow, but I was wary (and I was right to be). It's as if the bottom notes and the top notes were reversed, it's mind-bloggling! I got a very overwhelming spicy, peppery, woody accord and I have a feeling it comes from the akigalawood. It's very sharp, made me think of medicinal cough syrup or even cypriol. I couldn't smell anything apart from this massive dose of peppery woody note for the first few hours. It took almost half a day before it started receding and I finally got to the good stuff.

Underneath, I started getting a whiff of juicy pears and resinous warmth. I did get a subtle hint of nutty and sweet. Florals were feminine-leaning with the strongest being the rose with its fruity facet. Rest of them were there to add some depth and some creaminess. As it ends up drying down, I ended up getting a soft, creamy, woody vanilla drydown with some undescript florals and fruits. If the middle and the drydown had overpowered the beginning, I might have considered it, but the opening is way too strong and too unpleasant to my nose. Definitely not a blind-buy, do test it before you go for a bottle as you might get the most unpleasant surprise ever (or something great, from some of the reviews I've read). Unfortunately, I got the short end of the stick for this one.
