But not a whopper
Avicenna... The name reminded me of something, but it wouldn't really come to me. Then I read Seerose's comment and there it was again. A few months ago I listened to a book I had read with enthusiasm many years ago: The Medicus by Noah Gordon. The historical person described by Seerose is described there as training and teaching the protagonist, Rob Cole, to be a Medicus in Isfahan.
Annette Neuffer's Avicenna starts with spiced tart fresh hesperidia. Then the spices gradually assert themselves, of which I think I can detect pepper and cinnamon. Slowly the florals of the heart note join in and then take over, of which I can detect rose. A surprisingly bright and light rose note when you look at the fragrance pyramid. The other listed flowers are "only" accompanying for my nose, but certainly they should not be missing in any case. The base shows up with me sweet-creamy with a touch of resin.
When reading the extensive fragrance pyramid, I expected a decent Wummser. But then that was only the first impression of the top notes on the first day. On the following days, there was the typical top notes (Aus-)radiation, after which Avicenna settles on person and the base is perceptible only densely over the skin. The longevity is very good for a natural fragrance. I perceive him on me up to 8 hours.
Short version is: tart-fresh, warm-spicy-floral with sweet-creamy finish.
Avicenna is unisex wearable, and I would do so in fall and winter.
