Oud Masterpiece
I did not like the idea of a more concentrated version of Oud Ispahan since the EDP lasted 3 days on my skin and gave me a migraine, but I liked what the EDP was trying to do so I decided to give it a shot. I was blown away. Very high quality fragrance.

This opens very spicy and woody with cloves and cumin, these accords are so well done but are not in your face, its not like sniffing those spices straight up. Along with a certain mass appealing smell that Dior's private line tends to have, I appreciate this being in the fragrance because it just makes it more wearable, and blends very nicely with the woody spicy opening, I am also glad that it goes away after a short time to let the oud do its thing later on. This very airy and rich rose starts lurking in very quickly, and the longer its on your skin the more powerful the rose becomes and the spices subside. The rose section of this fragrance lasts around 2 hours until it goes away and then the oud starts to shine WONDERFULLY. This is when it gets animalic, but doesn't smell like your surrounded by feces like Frederic Malle The Night. I love punchy animalic ouds and this does the job for me while not being too challenging, think of Oud Ispahan Esprit being a dog on a leash, and FM The Night being an aggressive dog off the leash. This is overall a very dry fragrance and there's no holes in the composition, to me it feels like nothing is missing. This is truly a designer oud masterpiece and I don't think any other designer could top this, I would go as far as to say this is way better composed, and smells better than Bortnikoff's ouds and higher quality than many other niche ouds. This is my second favorite oud fragrance of all time, Frederic Malle The Night takes first place due to its complexity.

Comparing to the original Oud Ispahan EDP, Esprit is smoother, the oud note is significantly better, its spicier, and does not have this beast mode molecule that the EDP had that gave me a migraine and lasted for days on my skin. So the performance for Oud Ispahan Esprit is a bit weaker but I have no problem with it whatsoever because the smell is WAY better. Esprit lasts around 24 hours with the first 3 hours having slightly higher than average projection.

Oud Ispahan Esprit De Parfum by Christian Dior
Despite its online popularity, I really didn't care for the original EDP of Oud Ispahan, largely because I could clearly smell a cheap "woody amber" basenote instead of actual oud, a huge pet peeve of mine (and, sadly, the probable reason for its popularity *sigh*). Thankfully, the Esprit de Parfum fixes that problem, while also improving everything else.

The star of the show is a mix of smoky, charred wood (cashmeran, maybe?) and leathery saffron. For the record, I still don't smell any actual oud - rubbery, medicinal, fecal, or otherwise - but this mix is the generally accepted luxury perfume substitute for actual oud, and I've made peace with that and actually quite like it.

There's a big, bright, fruity top as well - I clearly smell ionone violets with their shiny sweetness, tempered with what smells to me like plum. There's a smear of ash in there as well, hinting at frankincense. Given time, as the ionones fade to their suede core, it makes everything leathery, at which point this is pretty much perfect. Many have attempted to mix smoky woods and leather, to varying degrees of success, but Kurkdjian has really hit a home run with this.

My only complaint is the way this is sold. It performs like a proper parfum extrait, meaning that it's really strong and a single drop is all that's needed, but it's sold in a big bottle with a sprayer as opposed to a little extrait dab bottle. It dispenses too much liquid, and it would take a lifetime to use up a whole bottle of this, even with enough application to cause mass evacuations and hysteria. I can only imagine it's being sold in a full-size bottle just as an excuse to make it really expensive, which I find tacky and classless. I won't mark down for that, as the perfume itself is wonderful, but I'm quite thankful that I got a couple of sample vials of this as a gift with purchase as, dispensed a drop at a time, these should last me years.

My On/Off Relationship
Dear Oud Ispahan,

I believe nothing will come of us. I love you because you are a masterpiece of the highest perfumery art. I acknowledge that. You are unique. No rose-oud combination smells like you. You allow oud to express all its facets - from sour animalistic to beautifully woody, you add a barbershop-like spicy, masculine soapiness, disregard any form of sweetness, present flowers, naturally as they are, and from all this mixture, your rose keeps asking to come forward. Your ingredients are handpicked and noble, the play with various actually opposing notes is mastered by no other fragrance at the level you do. You are at least 5 fragrances in one.

You should live with my girlfriend. I'm okay with that. On her skin, with just one spray from a distance, you leave all day subtle, well-placed clouds of the finest woody ouds. You give her the aura of a princess from the Orient. Unfortunately, you give me the aura of a pimp who wants to suffocate everyone else with an overwhelming scent. It's my fault, my skin. We are not meant for each other. Yet we had our time. I could not always escape your fascination, projection, uniqueness! Respect that you get to wear a DIOR label. It takes something special to achieve that, especially when you are so little mass-appealing, angular, and edgy!

But you are also to blame! You entice with incredibly beautiful bottles in oversized formats for exorbitant money. No one needs those! You know your application should be well-considered. The coolness in the open air suits you well, the gala evening. However, the dosage of your poison must be well thought out. A quarter liter of yours will last generations and thus remain unnecessary.

You have also become greedy! Your new concentration form is just like your old one! Only now you want more and more of my money. Of course, you now last on clothing for 7 days instead of "only" 5. But who needs that? Why weren't you satisfied with what you are? You will find your fans... just stay as you are!

In love / in hate / in despair ... oh, I still don't know after all these years

Another rose oud that's not just another rose oud. Pungent spicy opening, florals for a couple hours, heavy animalics come after.A Beauty!

Better quality more natural Oud + less Rose than in OG, smoothly blended, pleasant, soft, mildly spicy. Unisex, last all day. Love it.

The oud is really in your face, wow! Get paste this and after 1h its “wearable”. Beast! Not for beginners.

The pb is the longevity, it stays too much (30 days+ on clothes)

Got as a mini from Dior and it smells like used baby wipes. First fragrance I've actually had to scrub off, survives many hand washes.

Much more of an oud forward fragrance than its predecessor, and the rose is toned down in favor of animalic spice.

EDP was too feminine with the synthetic oud. This one is unisex and smoother.

Another rose-oud scent. Certainly not bad, but nothing special either - I miss that certain twist.

An animalistic kickoff is followed by a sweaty interlude. The ups and downs end in a oud-dry rose smoke spice.
