Best of Ariana's fragrances, all rolled into one
Mod Vanilla smells like a blend of several other Ariana Grande perfumes. The juicy fruitiness from God is a Woman, but with Moonlight's dark plum instead of GIAW's pear, mixed with the whipped cream and pleasantly plasticy notes of Cloud. Compared to Cloud, this one has much less in common with the famous Baccarat Rouge 540, instead it has a lot of vanilla (as one would expect from the name).
If you have never smelled any of these, Mod Vanilla is a creamy vanilla and white musk scent with a fresh, juicy, slightly shampoo-ish plum on top. The other notes are subtle, but not unnoticeable. Freesia creates a bit of watery freshness, orris makes the scent slightly cool and powdery, but the cocoa butter adds really nice touch of extra warm creaminess. All in all this is more of a base-heavy scent. It is gourmandish, but too clean to be completely edible.
I was positively surprised by this. Most of Ariana's fragrances are pretty nice to me, but none of them is a true love. This comes close. I think the whole is more than the sum of its parts here. There are moments, especially in the opening and the far drydown, where I'm really smitten by the scent. But in the mid phase, the plum and the medicinal Cloud vibes are a little too intense for my taste, so overall, it's still a like and not a love. I guess I would have loved it if the creaminess was amped up further.
If you already have several Ariana perfumes, this doesn't bring anything new to the table, but if you don't, it's certainly worth a try.
