A Simplistic Underperformer
After more then 25 years, AZZARO finally gave their timeless classic CHROME the eau de parfum treatment in 2022. When I caught wind of this release, I was pretty intrigued: even excited.
CHROME is one of the foundations of my fragrance journey. It was a popular perennial gifting item, stocking stuffer, and party favor for me back then. I was lucky enough to hoard more than a few bottles. The DNA was super clean, super fresh, and perfect for a late teen. I was hooked.
Since then, the AZZARO name has been synonymous with my fragrance collection and day-to-day scent profile. AZZARO POUR HOMME had long been my signature night-time scent. AZZARO WANTED was an instant go-too, and quickly got replaced by it's masterful flankers (BY NIGHT, THE MOST WANTED, MOST WANTED PARFUM). Needless to say, I'm a fan of this house. Many vital, irreplaceable memories are tied to AZZARO.
All that aside, CHROME EDP is a total misfire, and a blemish on the Azzaro name. The scent itself is solid, if underwhelming. The metallicy-fresh Showergel essense of CHROME is present; but it's less refined and even more synthetic than the original. For an EDP, it's immediately evident that this version is less strong and far less memorable than it's EDT lineage.
That's not just less strong as in smell. The potency of this juice is downright disappointing. Very little sillage out the atomizer. Close to no projection. As a skin scent, this is also a total letdown. On skin, 2 hours after application, there is close to no semblance of what I had sprayed. That's not acceptable. Even worse, I payed retail for this! Curiosity did indeed kill the cat.
With barely acceptable performance, and a scent that's simplistic to put it mildly, there is NO REASON to own AZZARO CHROME EDP.
If you want a better experience along with potentially nostalgic memories, just buy yourself a bottle of the original.
