A Simplistic Underperformer
After more then 25 years, AZZARO finally gave their timeless classic CHROME the eau de parfum treatment in 2022. When I caught wind of this release, I was pretty intrigued: even excited.

CHROME is one of the foundations of my fragrance journey. It was a popular perennial gifting item, stocking stuffer, and party favor for me back then. I was lucky enough to hoard more than a few bottles. The DNA was super clean, super fresh, and perfect for a late teen. I was hooked.

Since then, the AZZARO name has been synonymous with my fragrance collection and day-to-day scent profile. AZZARO POUR HOMME had long been my signature night-time scent. AZZARO WANTED was an instant go-too, and quickly got replaced by it's masterful flankers (BY NIGHT, THE MOST WANTED, MOST WANTED PARFUM). Needless to say, I'm a fan of this house. Many vital, irreplaceable memories are tied to AZZARO.

All that aside, CHROME EDP is a total misfire, and a blemish on the Azzaro name. The scent itself is solid, if underwhelming. The metallicy-fresh Showergel essense of CHROME is present; but it's less refined and even more synthetic than the original. For an EDP, it's immediately evident that this version is less strong and far less memorable than it's EDT lineage.

That's not just less strong as in smell. The potency of this juice is downright disappointing. Very little sillage out the atomizer. Close to no projection. As a skin scent, this is also a total letdown. On skin, 2 hours after application, there is close to no semblance of what I had sprayed. That's not acceptable. Even worse, I payed retail for this! Curiosity did indeed kill the cat.

With barely acceptable performance, and a scent that's simplistic to put it mildly, there is NO REASON to own AZZARO CHROME EDP.

If you want a better experience along with potentially nostalgic memories, just buy yourself a bottle of the original.

No great similarity to the EdT, yet still good
Azzaro Chrome EdT is an evergreen in the USA, in Europe since the 90s. Fresh, lightly aquatic, citrusy, shower gel. The EdP appears now a long time later, 26 years to be exact.

In my opinion, it bears no resemblance to the EdT. The EdT is more citrusy, sharper, with a slight metallic note. The EdP, on the other hand, is more aquatic and woody. The 3 ingredients listed can all be distinctly smelled: Mandarin provides a fruity, fresh opening, lavender adds a subtle spiciness, and pine gives a nice woodiness. I am inclined to say that it smells like a standard aquatic or freshie. However, I still like the EdP very much, or perhaps because of that. It is simple, masculine, fresh, and versatile.

It will surely be particularly well-received on warm days; longevity and sillage are not so great for an EdP. 4 to 5 hours with a subtle projection. Bought for €54 retail in the drugstore (50ml), which I found very fair for a brand new release. Of course, (still) not as cheap as the EdT; those looking for a bargain should wait a bit longer. Overall, a solid release, not a must-have but a nice addition to fresh fragrances.

Maybe some of you know the feeling of wanting to find something new; you scour the forums, read this and that, test a few things, but you just can't quite commit. Well, I felt that way and, tired of the eternal search, I thought I would let the fragrance find me. That's how I discovered this little square while browsing the sales shelf and was immediately intrigued. A quick spray, but the price, the background of not having a Chrome yet, and the experience of being well-advised at Azzaro led me to make a blind buy... and it was good, for me ;)

I’m not necessarily a purist, but I do prefer fewer ingredients. I’m also looking for an alternative to Dior's Eau Sauvage Parfum (I prefer the 2012 version and overall it tends to fall into the trap of becoming bland eventually, but that's another story, just in case anyone knows something :) ). So, in that sense, I find the ingredients and the gradation in Chrome fantastic.

Now, the scent: It starts with a wonderful mandarin (olfactorily reminds me of the opening of Baldessarini by Hugo Boss). Beneath the fruit, there is already a hint of pine. I don’t detect the lavender, maybe it just rounds everything off, which is fine too. I once hiked in Tenerife, up to Del Teide. I found myself on its slope in a pine forest. Wonderfully green and infinitely quiet; a break from the world below... simply delightful. This intense pine aroma travels and accompanies me in the fragrance until the end. So it definitely deserves a chance, it just takes a bit until it feels comfortable, but then it shows depth!
The sillage is moderate and the longevity is about 6 hours.
The campaign features the father and the angelic son (Funny that they chose the characters according to current trends, really the standard type for every current advertising subject :) ) joyfully jumping into the sea. The perfume is supposed to convey the passing on of a wonderful feeling of life..... Well, that has pretty much passed, but perhaps they really understand it that way at Azzaro. I would rather see a trail runner winking at a sweet maid in the orange grove, tying his shoes, and then battling up the mountain to breathe in the greenest pine forest at the top and enjoy the freedom of the vast land before him.

In summary: The perfume will always accompany you fresh, during the day, even while exercising, especially at temperatures above 20 degrees. It is not made for going out or for a suit. It brings a smile to your face, nothing more and nothing less.

Quest for Blue - Azzaro Chrome Eau de Parfum
After being truly impressed by Azzaro's Chrome DNA, the search for the perfect Blue continues with the EDP.

For an EDP flanker, there is really little of the classic Chrome DNA in it. The Chrome EDP is super simple, straightforward, clean - and that's exactly what makes it convincing. The EDP version, if you will, takes a completely different path. It wants to be more, more complex, but it doesn't quite manage to find a functioning identity - for me.

The fragrance opens incredibly deliciously with a mandarin, super appealing and juicy. Unfortunately, it disappears just as quickly as it arrived. The best part is over before you know it. After that, the pine comes through really prominently, the scent becomes more green than aquatic and strays far from the Chrome origin.

The woody note is slightly sweet, mixed with a few aquatic tones and a splash of Chrome. There is no significant development after the beginning.

Even though this version contains more, I’m not a huge fan of this sweet wood - and the aquatic aspect is clearly lacking here. Overall, it’s not a bad fragrance, just not in the direction I had hoped for.

Longevity and sillage: similar to its predecessor.

Let Yourself Be Inspired
In a Mediterranean pine forest, an exciting scent that invites you to enjoy the here and now and to share the simple as well as intense moments of life. I smelled this fragrance on my colleague and was thrilled by its aquatic sweetness. This perfume delighted me with Fougère notes, which are introduced in the opening by fruity green mandarin. Fresh lavandin defines the heart, while pine essence in the base provides a delicious finish.
I had to have it right away, and I will get it again when the bottle is empty.

Smells like Extreme mixed with the OG 70/30. Smells good but don't really last long. Get the Original or the parfum.

Fresh aquatic matrix with an herbal, almost soapy, lavender peeking through and a tinge of green pine all over a light woody base.

Won’t offend anybody with this. Aquatic Citrus with a light pine base. The performance is weak and there are better smells in this category.

A typically blue aquatic scent, smells like I've encountered it before (Dylan Blue, Luna Rossa Ocean, Forever Sailing Moschino).

The greenest version of the Chrome line. But not as good as the original. H/S-wise.

Unfortunately a disappointment after the good Aqua and Extreme flanker. Generic without much depth. What a shame. It simply lacks character.

Solid fresh-green scent, pleasant and unobtrusive, barely any sillage, longevity is so-so. Still a good one from the Chrome line.

The fragrance pyramid describes the scent very well. I perceive all 3 notes consistently and equally. Solid!
