a citrus-green master chypre
The Spanish/Basque fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga was completely unknown to me as a young woman.
This was probably not only because I was very young at the time; one reason was also that we often had difficulties with the pronunciation of names back then (in pre-Internet times, which could have taught us).
So we preferred to stick to the linguistically common or familiar, which, as I later realized, greatly limited our "action radius" in the land of fragrances.
But as they say, one never stops learning.
By now, I am not only familiar with the fashion of the so-called "guardian of elegance," but I was also able to experience two of his lighter fragrance creations, in the form of Eau de Toilette, thanks to the generosity of Greenfan1701.
And of course, they are green; otherwise, my samples wouldn't come from her with her preference for "green fragrances."
I would even describe "Cialenga" as a "green citrus chypre" with a tart note of blackcurrants.
It takes me through a spicy green meadow into a grove of Hesperides plants, where in the shadow of the already late afternoon, I first take some time to enjoy myself.
Not only do the fruits smell unmistakable, but sun-warmed foliage and wood also make the stay there very pleasant, as nature begins to settle down and all the aromas slowly settle and unfold.
A lovely additional entertainment is the play of light and shadow among the leaves.
The dense hedge of currant bushes separates me from the large summer flower garden, the ripe black berries wait robustly fragrant for the harvest; they must be picked individually, not in clusters: a lot of work before their taste will surely give a very special aroma to one or another bottle of fruit wine.
It is beautiful here: Refreshingly green and fruity, almost a little sparkling, even if aldehydes are probably not involved!
But then the flower garden beckons: They are all there! How I love them!
Lily of the valley, jasmine, and lilies - blooming white and intoxicatingly fragrant. For jasmine and lilies, the big fragrance boost is still to come; their aromas are gathering and waiting for the approaching twilight to impregnate it with their sensual, often intoxicating floral breath.
But "Cialenga" gives them the necessary time to bloom, and it is truly worth it.
Faithfully and nobly, a dark, heavy scent of roses, which have apparently been spiced with cloves, already caresses.
What a fascinating spicy blend!
And of course, all this beauty is rounded off by a classic chypre base - it just can't be any other way!
Oakmoss, beautifully strong as I like it, patchouli, and vetiver provide a deep, slightly moist earthiness, while erotic-creamy sandalwood and the spice of the wonderful cedarwood make this enjoyment perfect: "Cialenga" concludes the day!
The citrus-green chypre fragrance with a magnificent floral note and pleasant base takes its time to unfold on the skin, as already mentioned, and so do the many different fragrance notes, whose charming facets only gradually open and enchant like ripening flowers.
So my chypre adventure is not yet over.
I am still curious about what else there is to discover in this fragrance realm.
