Successful pour homme
Wow, this is something special indeed. I'm a big fan of the original pour homme, and this is related but not identical. Thankfully, my favorite part of the original is still present: the pine/fir-capsacin-and (of course) leather combo, but still different enough to justify both. Doesn't project as well as the original either, but is a thicker presence with a definite richness.
I would like to say the pour homme feels like a serious man on a set path in life of his own choosing, and the parfum is representative of his arrival in success.

Parfum review and comparison to original
Here i review 2017's flanker to the original Pour Homme eau de toilette. Although a stronger concentration, this is an altogether different scent that retains just some of the original's dna. I hope you enjoy.

HaraldK will be pleased…
I really like all four Bottega Veneta men’s fragrances. They are very good new releases in the classic mainstream men’s fragrance segment.

The regular “Pour homme” is a very fine, spicy-leathery but unfortunately also very light scent. The “Extrême” version seems more durable, but unfortunately not as fresh anymore. And the “Essence Aromatique” leans more towards summery notes. Very fine and fresh. All Bottegas suffer from one issue: durability.

So the announcement of a “Parfum” version was all the more pleasing. At least it raised hopes for better performance.

For Father’s Day, I received the fragrance as a gift from my loved ones.

And one thing upfront: It is still unmistakably “Bottega Veneta Pour Homme.” However, the freshness of the original Pour Homme is increasingly fading. The spicy-leathery notes can at best accompany the scent. Here, the balsam fir clearly and unmistakably dominates. Very fresh, resinous, and woody. For me, it reminds me a bit of the pine needles in “Blenheim Bouquet”; however, it is a bit sharper. I like the forest in a bottle. But it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Unfortunately, the performance here also leaves much to be desired. Sillage is almost non-existent and the longevity is below average. More than five to six hours close to the skin is not achievable.

The bottle, the packaging (yes, I know, not really important), and the sprayer, on the other hand, are top-notch.

However, the price seems a bit exaggerated to me. It has now reached the same outrageous level as Armani.

Who should buy this fragrance? Well, good question. Anyone who likes the base scent of the three variants and has nothing against a woody fragrance in a bottle can go for it. It is, as my predecessor rightly mentioned, pure understatement. This applies to all three variants. Otherwise, I actually recommend the “Extrême” version. It offers the best compromise and is, in my opinion, the longest lasting.

Overall, I consider the fragrance and its two offshoots to be perfect signature scents. They are fresh, spicy, subtly leathery, worthy of being a signature, and not intrusive.

As for the headline? I couldn’t think of anything. So I borrowed a response from HaraldK from my statement: “I hardly believe that it can convince me more than the Essence Aromatique (if only because the terrible tonka bean is in it), but it will get a chance to be tested :)”

Don’t worry, HaraldK, it’s not that terrible…

Best regards

Unpleasant Start, Later a Nice Day Fragrance
Just before Christmas, I bought the Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme at Galeria Kaufhof. The good thing about most purchases is that you get a few samples. Unfortunately, they are usually ones I already know inside and out. CK One or Boss Bottled - I strangely almost always get those two. This time I got lucky. Bottega Veneta, a brand popular in the fragrance world, has never really achieved a major commercial breakthrough. Nevertheless, there are quite a few whose popularity and sales figures are not bad. Here, the brand is also well regarded.

I tested this fragrance without high expectations, as I find the scent notes extremely unremarkable and woody-spicy fragrances are generally not my thing. Nonetheless, I want to evaluate this fragrance objectively.
The bottle is very chic, elegant, and truly classy, just like the entire line or brand. This elegant bottle suits the fragrance, as it feels more suitable for older or more mature gentlemen in my opinion. The prices are not exactly cheap for a designer fragrance. Most hover around the 100 Euro mark for 100ml.
It starts off very unpleasant for me. An extremely penetrating spiciness that I find off-putting. There’s something spicy in the opening that bothers me immensely, I have no idea what. After half an hour, a solid pleasantly spicy day fragrance develops. I don't find any major highlights here, but that’s not always necessary for a day fragrance. The main player in this scent is the fir balsam. It doesn’t smell like a Christmas tree at all, but a nice fir note is very noticeable throughout the entire duration. Pine and cedar also come through clearly. I don’t perceive cardamom or especially the tonka bean at all here. Nevertheless, this fragrance has a strong spiciness that becomes quite pleasant after half an hour. Additionally, there’s leather, which is present in most EDPs and intense versions, as this note lasts a long time. Here, it is not in the foreground.
Overall, a solid creation, which I see most as an everyday fragrance. It is pleasant, but I don’t perceive any major highlights here. In terms of type, it’s rather not casual, and if so, more suited for a dressier outfit. Moreover, I find the fragrance more suitable for mature gentlemen. In my opinion, it fits best for men over 40. While it’s not old-fashioned, it does resemble some vintage fragrances.
The performance is quite good for an EDP. Sillage is also decent. The perfumer is the talented Daniela, who is responsible for the wonderful Prada fragrances. Great woman.

Even though the fragrance doesn’t really suit my taste, it’s a great scent that will suit some very well.

Waldläufer, rub the tree until the resin comes
Who stands there in the forest, completely still and silent? A Bottega Veneta, rubbing itself against a conifer with its leathery-woody nature and smelling of light resin notes.

BV fragrances are as unmistakable in the fragrance landscape as nothing else. No matter which scent you choose from the men's or women's collection, it has a typical character that I can recognize very clearly. However, that doesn’t mean that you take one and know them all. No, each fragrance from BV has its own advantages, its properties, and peculiarities that can be very flattering.
For me, this fragrance is a must-have in my collection. A status that it will probably never lose.

The exceptionally long-lasting composition of leather, wood, light spice, and resinous-balsamic coniferous forest makes my otherwise not so green fragrance heart beat very fast. This is also because I am really into the scent of coniferous wood.

A great fragrance with a grand characteristic across the entire spectrum and a wonderful scent that is typically Bottega Veneta.

Strong fir balsam is increasingly infiltrated after 3 hours by the sweetness of a sneaky tonka bean. Not for me, but if you like it.....

Good autumn scent. Good H and S. Smells like a sauna infusion. Lots of pine, hardly any leather, light cardamom. Overall, above average.

The gentleman in a flannel shirt - woody, serious, and confident, accompanied by minimal freshness upfront and deeper warmth at the back. Beautiful!
