I was surprised that
Le Gemme - Falkar has no reviews at all; in general, apart from "Le Gemme - Tygar | Bvlgari," the rest of the Le Gemme line seems to receive little attention. After testing
Le Gemme - Onekh - which I found a bit too synthetic and piercing (see review) - I now continue with "Le Gemme - Falkar | Bvlgari." Another dark oud fragrance from the Le Gemme collection, but it aims to embody the idea of the Brazilian forest rather than capturing the Orient. In this respect, the gemstone is designed with a green shimmer.
What is the scent like?
- Unlike "Le Gemme - Onekh | Bvlgari," Falkar does not start off smoky dark but instead begins with a sweet freshness, likely coming from the saffron note added to the oud; opulent and strong!
- Then a leathery accord joins in, which, together with the oud and yes, dark musk, prevents the scent from drifting into a dark leathery oud fragrance. Instead, the scent maintains a light, fresh oud-leather-musk base. This base smells quite unique, and you find few fragrances that smell similar - even if it's not entirely my thing; but that's exactly what makes the scent almost more wearable and versatile than "Le Gemme - Onekh | Bvlgari."
- This contrasting musk makes the scent not only more interesting but somehow less appealing to me in the drydown; the longer the fragrance lingers on the skin, the more this "bright" oud-musk combination emerges, and from my perspective, it then smells synthetic and unpleasant, somewhat inappropriate. Not bad, but for me, it’s somewhat annoying; the bright musk note with the oud and leather is creative, yes, but at times it smells slightly "stale" for a long time, until it then slightly retreats in the final phase of the drydown, allowing the oud-leather combo to regain dominance.
- The sillage and longevity are also top-notch with this fragrance, just like with
Le Gemme - Onekh; the scent lasts and projects really well and is definitely in the upper third.
Overall, a solid fragrance that has character but simply does not match my preferences and unfortunately also appears slightly synthetic.
