Barnyard Oud
Nice natural-smelling oud, blended well and subtle. The bottle and presentation is gorgeous but the scent is the star. Out of the three in the Oud collection, this is the good one. The price is steep but supposedly the oud is real. Excellent addition to the world of fragrance.

One of the best ouds money can buy!
I now have it! This is, hands down, one of the absolute best and most unique smelling ouds money can buy. This is deservedly on par with Frederick Malle's The Night when considering a top notch and luxurious oud. Albeit not smelling similar.

This smells like oud and muted amber and sandalwood. Oud being the front and centered star of the show. The oud is animalic, but in an appreciable way. The stank, imo, lends to it's intrigue.

In regards to it's texture, it's perhaps one of the smoothest, if not the smoothest, fragrances I've smelled or owned.

What I appreciate about this is it's wearability. Altho it's a stinker, it's blended in such a way that commands respect for the wearer. Granted, if you look the part. Something Malle's composition can't boast---at least not around just anyone---no matter what clothes you have on. Lol

Longevity is thru the roof. This is a one on the chest and one on the neck perfume. Anything more and it can be potentially off putting for some. Unless you're the night at the opera or gala going guy. In which case I would recommend no more then 4. (One on both wrist)

This is the kind of scent that is meant to draw people in. It's supposed to make people want to confirm the niceness of what it is they're smelling. It is NOT suppose to scream out. Again, the longevity is phenomenal and if you over spray this it's going to stay that way for HOURS. Making you the guy to negatively talk about. Lol

All and all, with this purchase, I'm now at point in my journey where I'm content. You literally couldn't give me stuff at this point. I don't want it, no matter what it is. In fact, I may start selling stuff.

The only thing I MAY grab is Amouage's Opus XIV - Royal Tobacco. Albeit, I don't need it. I have Fumerie turque, Atman Xaman and Zegna's "Strength", which I deem to be the best of the best tobaccos. It's just that when Amouage makes a tobacco, it's not to be taken lightly. Lol

Until next time folks...

Amber & Oud
Nice amber oud (and musk) fragrance, with little to no top notes. Smells like pure luxury and very polite for an oud, the animalic side is very light. Most importantly, it smells like natural oud to my nose and not like the loud synthetic materials that usually make me run away from "oud" fragrances.
On one hand the almost absence of top notes mean that you will not get any freshness or uplifting opening, so this feel less like "perfume" if that makes sense. On the other hand, the fragrance is optimally blended for its dry down rather than for the first 30 minutes (if not 5) like many others... It makes it also a nice choice for a dinner or an occasion where you want your perfume to remain in the background. Regardless of the price, it would also be a great indoor scent to spray around to feel like you live in a castle from the One Thousand and One Nights...
To sum it up, I would say this one should be attractive for instance to people who like ambery leather kind of fragrances and are looking for something in the same idea but different. The far dry down also brings a musky ambery side I was less fond of but still very well blended.

'Come, big black bird...'
'...come now!
Look, the window is wide open,
Look, I’ve sprinkled sugar on the windowsill.'

These are the first lines of perhaps the most famous, painful, and beautiful song - among the many painful and beautiful (and many whimsical) songs - of the great Viennese songwriter Ludwig Hirsch. The chansonnier Tim Fischer wonderfully and sensitively covered it about twenty-five years later.

'Come, big black bird, come to me!
Spread your wide, gentle wings
and lay them on my fevered eyes.
Please, take me away from here!'

I have commented on many oud fragrances - some of them enthusiastically, some critically, most of them - at least I believe I remember it that way - 'cautiously positive'. 'Real' oud is rarely found in Western perfumes; Mathilde Laurent and the house of Cartier dare to do it just a little bit here. And lo and behold: gone are the silver trumpets, and in their place is something like the very deep woods of a xylophone, whose dark and sometimes muffled sound one can still listen to for a long time and believes to still perceive - even when the actual tone has long since faded away.

And yet brilliance and a delicate grace lie within this darkness - and something both intimate and seemingly untouchable - even without the pairing with rose often encountered in non-oriental oud interpretations, which is supposed to provide a counterbalance to its earthy and bitter - sometimes downright 'stable' - components. Yet it is precisely this - the earthy, the bitter, the 'stable' - that is also beautifully magnificent all on its own. And here is one that has it all - seriousness, darkness, distance, and intimacy - and something yearning and as sad as it is gentle, which is both an end and a beginning.

'And then we’ll fly up, right into the sky,
into a new time, into a new world.
And I will sing, I will laugh, I will shout 'that’s impossible!'
because I will suddenly understand what it’s all about.'

Conclusion: a dark scent and an abyssal, yet fully comforting and soft beauty in its darkness. Like that great, black bird that Ludwig Hirsch once sang about so tragically and beautifully.

I once saw a Hamburg Veermaster.
To my Hodey, Hodey, Aoud.

Little cook, come over here, hey, that Oud, let’s leave it out of the Catjä, right?
We don’t have that much of it, it’s a bit too expensive, my dear Scholli, the people are all running away!
Especially the French again, they want to make something really special, but it’s nothing, it’s Oud!

Blow boys blow, for Californio; don’t mess around, sweet vanilla and Oud, no, just leave me out of it!
I’m just saying, that wood from the rotten stuff, that’s nothing, we take Oud, we take Amba.
My girl prefers that Paföng from the Soiten anyway! So that’s how it should be, SOIT!

It’s too flat for me.

After a challenging spicy-animalic opening, this powdery, yet gentle leathery-woody Fall fragrance, settles to a soft earthy-woody base.

The oud note is soft, thick and balsamic sweet (as combination of oud notes, amber and tonka bean?)

It stands like a gnarled old tree, from whose bark spicy-sweet resin drips, drawing you to the trunk until you merge with it.

Sweet, spicy-smoky Orient, Ylang-Ylang, labdanum-camphor + orange-chocolate-patch. Oud in tonka & vanilla laid. Seductively intense, Scheherazade's scent.

A top-class resinous-woody scent where the oud shifts between animalistic-dark & spicy-balsamic. Elegant, noble & timeless.

Oud & Oud reveals itself as a resinous, Labdanum-heavy amber scent. Oud? Where? Still: It has something! Sweet, spicy, balsamic. Mathilde rocks!

Oud with a chocolatey patch and sweet resin in a harmonious and rather subtle composition. I'm not the target audience.
