elegant freshness

I was looking for a summery gift fragrance for my mother-in-law that should be uncomplicated but not generic.

I tried this and that, and finally reached for the Edition Blanche, as I have always scored points with the original 1881 as a gift.

I find the white edition to be more special, yet still "rounded" enough not to be off-putting.

The scent is definitely summery fresh - without veering into citrus territory.
The fruity "head" is subtle, and the violet leaf lightly dusts the delicately bitter mimosa, adding elegance to the freshness.
Brightly, the heliotrope joins in, emphasizing the "Blanche" in the title.
Soft and gently sweet, the vanilla comes in, and musk has a stabilizing effect.

Despite its lightness, Blanche has a decent longevity and makes its elegantly fresh statement.

I think my mother-in-law will welcome it.

Risk Factor Blind Purchase

Excited (can you write it like that without causing misunderstandings? Never mind, I'll leave it like this… :D) and euphorized by my experiences with 1881 Bella Notte (yes, we have entered into an intimate and harmonious relationship), I couldn’t resist - despite my self-imposed spending stop in general and for “unnecessary” things in particular - I succumbed to the hunting fever. After all, there are occasions that you simply MUST take advantage of - they practically present themselves.

Such an opportunity arose a few days ago in the form of an offer for this little fragrance at my local drugstore. Despite the sweltering temperatures, I hurried - well, honestly, it would be more accurate to say I “sneaked” - out after work. No, I was told, there was currently no tester available, the fragrance was brand new and the testers would only arrive later. The logic behind this eluded me… still eludes me, especially for a fragrance that is released in limited edition, but well.

Since my good experiences with 1881 Bella Notte suggested that the Blanche couldn’t be that bad, I decided to go for it after a brief consideration. Opportunity makes bargains or something like that!

At home, I could hardly wait to finally take a first sniff. I quickly tore open the packaging, uncorked the bottle, pffft… and…. hmmmm….. well… quite nice!

At first, an incredible freshness hit me, but it soon sank into a fluffy-creamy cloud. And then?? Headaches!!! For three days… could it have been the fragrance? Who knows? The perfume was, for the moment, burned.

Two weeks later, however, I dared to try again. After all, giving up is not an option. And lo and behold, suddenly oranges joined the creamy fluff cloud… Oranges? Oh, that must be the bergamot… mmmh… not bad at all! Wrapped in a warm vanilla-musk coat with a delicate hint of orange, I actually feel quite comfortable with my little cloud now. No trace of migraine, blackcurrant and violet leaf are holding back, but maybe they just don’t dare to reveal themselves to my untrained and possibly unworthy nose.

Overall, the fragrance is quite pleasant in its own way, but it doesn’t come close to the original or Bella Notte. A bit more freshness might be desirable, but the lovely creamy powderiness certainly has its charm. Unfortunately, it probably isn’t enough for a lasting relationship.
