Today's fashion world wouldn't have been the same if Nino Cerruti had not played a major role in shaping it. The Italian-born designer brought new perspectives to the industry and added prestige to his every collection.
Nino Cerruti was born in 1930 and inherited his grandfather's textile factory in 1950. A few years later, he presented his debut collection "Hitman". Through it, Cerruti attracted a lot of attention, modernized the factory, and founded his label under his name in 1967. The introduction of the first men's collection was revolutionary at the time.
The "Cerruti 1881" company gathered more and more momentum in the years that followed. More women's and men's collections were introduced, a worldwide expansion and an extension of the range to include leather goods, jewelry, writing instruments, watches, eyewear, fragrances, and every kind of clothing.
Cerruti 1881 is a label that features high quality, exquisite and stylish, yet wearable and functional clothing. Well-known faces like Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington, or even Richard Gere appreciated these qualities in the 1980s and 1990s.
At the end of 2000, Nino Cerruti turned his back on his label. First, "Cerruti 1881" went to the Italian investors of "Fin.Part", who restructured the fashion company. Each fashion line got its name and colors, but still, the name of the founder stood above everything.
After the bankruptcy of "Fin.Part" (2005), "MatlinPatterson" first took over the company. Further changes of ownership followed in 2010 with "Trinity Ltd." and in 2017 with the fashion group "Shandong Ruyi" (both China).
