Chewy Candied Mandarin Zest
This is not bad if you like your amber uber subtle and love citrus rind with a slightly bitter dry afterthought. This is probably a great Spring and Early Fall Scent- It's above 35 oC right now where I am and sultry-muggy, so it's not thrilling me today. What I sense is a vanilla, honey and dried fruit tea steeped for greater than 10 minutes and presenting a bold, almost potpourri-like bouquet. That Bergamot note is a sure sign of success with me- I can't resist even the most pitiful bergamot scents (one of my weaknessness along with Neroli). To be honest my only criticism of this composition would probably be the middle notes of classic rich stuffy rose note- pulled right through a time machine of a Jane Austin Novel and married in the church with that languid Iris. Don't get me wrong! I am an iris lover for sure- but I love the new age exploration of the classic floral notes. this iris is stiff andtotally repressed...I want to cry for it actually. Eau Ambrée by Chaubaud is sumptuous without being loud, sillage is soft, I applied one drop from the tester, because honestly , I am not sold on Ambergris, for my self. I don't find this one in my holy grail category, but I find it does bare a slight resemblance to Joy by Patou with out the complexity of 1,000 flowers- I use to wear this in college and remember it fondly. Eau Ambrée is lighter, possible a 3-season, work and party appropriate skin scent- it's a little warm and sexy and honestly- I get a glipse of both therecently discontinued- unisex Helmut Lang Cologne and conversely, Pi by Givenchy (which is rather funny, because- I abhore Pi by Givenchy on male skin, which a detect a durian fruit sweetness with and actually have told 2 different men to please not wear this around me- one of which was my father!). But now I am reassessing that stewed chewy candied fruit concept for women. Anyway, I digress... this is well made, and might make a lovely early fall scent for either gender. It is sumptuous and soothing, well rounded and just a touch opulent and gourmand.

Fresh amber
Eau Ambree opens zesty and lemony. It's quite light and tasty, albeit rather soft. It quickly gains a kind of creaminess to it, which reminds me of the kind of texture body lotions have. The base notes come up very early on though, so a very typical amber peeks through in about 15 minutes? More or less. The iris and rose only plays around on the sidelines, which I found slightly disappointing.

After that quick development, it's character doesn't change much anymore. It's a swirl of mildly spicy benzoic notes which manages to retain a light, airy freshness, but also a warm, smoky vibe. It does end with a sweeter, more floral note, though still highly benzoic.

I suppose I wasn't terribly impressed by this. It comes off as a typical amber fume with nothing much to offer, save for a calming freshness that is most prominent at the very beginning and lasts in soft touches throughout.

This was a very soft and silent perfume with not much sillage, and only lasted 3 hours on me.

A Conservative Light Amber That Is All Too Familiar...
Eau Ambree opens with slight green sharp orange citrus and lemony bergamot. As the composition moves to its early heart the bergamot takes over, now coupling with mild powdery amber and iris as the composition turns relatively sweet, derived from benzoin rising from the base. During the late dry-down the composition eschews most of its sweetness, leaving the gentle powder and traces of a leathery suede spicy trail through the finish. Projection is below average with the composition just more than a skin scent and longevity just below average at about 6-7 hours on skin.

Eau Ambree's name is very apropos as the perfume comes off as mild, lightly spiced bergamot-laced sweet amber. The composition is almost too formal in its subtlety, sometimes reminding one of baby powder but even less aggressive if that can be believed. The lemony bergamot provides a good counter to the amber, keeping the composition somewhat fresh, but in the end something seems too familiar here. All-in-all, Eau Ambree is a pleasant enough light amber outing that is most certainly pleasant but far from memorable. Fans of compositions like Endymion by Penhaligon's may enjoy it more than I but the bottom line is Eau Ambree's relatively boring nature keeps me from recommending it without reservation, earning it an "above average" rating of 2.5 to 3 stars out of 5.

The dream state
Bright fruity lemon sherbet sweets or a tutti frutti chew without any sugar in. A waft of a light breeze blowing over the fruit bowl where someone has cut all the fruits in half.

A gap. The breeze suddenly stops. An empty space that gets gradually filled with the pot pourri from far away in the room next door. I am sitting in the middle of a large room with a wooden floor. The floor was polished a long while ago and the sweetish wax lingers, but ever so faintly. The french doors are slightly open and through the tiny gap I can get a waft of the garden flowers and the roses. The door to the long hall is open too and from the kitchen far away, I can just about smell the preparation of some spicy buns.

I am alone in this vast space. I feel the presence of my own shoes and handbag. This fragrance is 'a freshness' all on its own. These other elements are distant and fading in and out. I think it is just a dream. I think so..... I only smell the powder now from after my bath. It was a fading dream.
