Intriguing, but not exactly mysterious
Mysterious probably isn't the best way to describe this oud. Multifaceted? Yessir.

Oud to me has always been mostly bitter, but this isn't just that. It opens almost sweet and wispy, but very resinous. Powdery sandalwood is pretty prominent on me, too. I would venture to say that this was even seemingly floral at times, woody at others.

I've never known this to be possible with a perfume that is so laden with resin and oud notes, but Mysterious Oud oddly manages to wear rather lightly! You can almost taste a kind of stickiness - what I think warm, melted leather might taste like. It ends in a very pleasant and soft but slightly bitter musk.

I give this massive props for taking oud out of its comfort zone, so to speak, and show that it could be a lighter, melancholic-tinted happy fragrance. It is a little curious in the sense that while it retains the obvious qualities of a oud-based perfume, it succeeds at setting itself apart. But as I said, perhaps mysterious isn't the right adjective for it.

Projection wasn't much to shout about, which is always a relief for me when it comes to resinous perfumes. Lasting power was alright, around 5 hour on me.

The flitting shadows of the teasing stranger
The dusk gives way to the night with a gentle and light perfumers touch. The still night air is laden with the small whispers of sleepy flowers and the light murmurs of the tree trunks as they relinquish themselves to the darkness.

This oud is an evasive stranger. Always there, but flitting from shadow to shadow. Each time resting long enough to gently disturb a night flower, caress a the bark of a tree, to ruffle the air just slightly enough to only catch a fleeting whiff before he moves off again to disturb another place.

This dark and agile fragrance is never still and never invasive. It unravels so gently as to be on the crest of a balmy night breeze. Always shifting so gently in order to tantalise the nostrils with enough of a scent to make you wonder, but then moving off and never staying long enough to remain sure.

After teasing your mind on his ever shifting breeze, he decides to sit with you a while. Near enough to be aware of his warm amber breath and musky presence, but far enough away not to overpower you with his blackness.

This perfumer has understood perfectly how to tease the pretty side of oud away from its traditional place. She has wooed it into playing her game instead of being the brooding and serious creature it can be. A pretty oud?

The Mystery Of The Missing Oud...
Mysterious Oud opens with a slightly sweet alcoholic accord before quickly transitioning to its heart. As the composition reaches its early heart, traces of the initial sweet boozy accord remain to support the primary peppery angelica and synthetic burnt woody Oud duo with just the faintest jasmine floral undertone. During the late dry-down the synthetic smelling Oud dissipates leaving the peppery angelica to pair with smooth slightly sweet sandalwood through the finish. Projection is just beyond minimal but longevity is very good at 9-10 hours on skin.

Mysterious Oud is definitely a pleasant smelling composition. It provides none of the more challenging aspects of many Oud releases, instead playing it safe with a smooth synthetic smelling Oud accord that pairs nicely with peppery angelica a la Royal Oud by Creed. I have no idea what the mystery is here, unless it is trying to figure out if there really is any Oud in the composition... Real Oud or not, the whole thing comes together rather nicely with the underlying jasmine floral providing a nice touch and the sandalwood in the base smoothing out the spicy finish quite well. The bottom line is Mysterious Oud provides little for one to ponder save its titled ingredients' origin, but the composition does work on the whole, earning a solid "good" 3 stars out of 5 rating and a tenuous recommendation. If Royal Oud was a favorite of yours then Mysterious Oud is likely to impress.

Secrets, Smoke and Mirrors
Mysterious Oud is that soft smokey slightly sweet incense smell that reminds me of the impending arrival of Autumn. I think of that point when a burning log in the firepit has danced the night with flame and is now fully deep orange- still hot enough to be dangerous to the touch, but now producing a gentle glow and a soul warming burnt wood aroma. I have searched for this scent every year around October and settled for many other fragrances such as "Burning Leaves" and CdG's "Hinoki" both of which have elements of this mood but Mysterious Oud is almost a singular subtle whiff of sweet smoke. This has a gentle silage and a transparency that I personally would not associate with an Oud at all. If I smelled this on a stranger, I would definitely be curious as to what they were wearing. It leaves a delicate but haunting trail of Labdanum caressed by fleeting woody notes. Very well done, if you like just a bit of mystery.

When the Nose is Blocked and the Fly is Open - A Spring Aoud
When the nose is blocked and one walks through the world with an open fly, then it is spring again (Austrian saying). Even on these days, the hunting Aoud lover seeks satisfaction. And finds it.

Chabaud is a French niche fragrance brand from Montpellier, the city of slightly scandalous regrets and the home of Petrarch. Chabaud not only produces perfumes but also room fragrances and scented candles. The scents are meant to evoke childhood, the lightness of being a child, the feeling of security, and the happiness felt back then. And most of the fragrances, especially the squeaky-cuddly and gourmand "Laits," do just that.

Actually, Aoud fragrances are ideal to wear in spring and summer. Because the scent note Aoud is at home in areas where it is summer all year round. Unfortunately, in our time, olfactory timidity is often met with excessive compliance. Powerful fragrances disappear from the range or are mutilated into eunuchs.

In our latitudes, spicy and aoud fragrances are unjustly perceived only as heavy autumn and winter scents. No, I advocate for celebrating these olfactory powerhouses even more in summer. Nevertheless, many perfume lovers feel the need to wear fresher and lighter scents in spring and summer, considering their social contacts.

On the other hand, many perfume lovers often find Aoud as a scent note too dirty (Al Kimiya) and earthy (Illuminum), too medicinal (Montale, Mancera), too bestial (XerJoff, Hind al Oud), or simply too masculine (M7, LM). Because the common Aoud fragrances are often loud, roaring alpha males that overshadow even keening presidents on Twitter with terrible taste in women.

Especially newcomers to the world of niche fragrances find it difficult with Aoud scents, as Aoud should not only be perceivable in minimal nuances (which is a shame, because Aoud deserves, like a full bosom, a prominent place).

Both groups are likely to find Mysterious Oud appealing and even very pleasing. On one hand, Mysterious Oud is woody fresh, and on the other hand, it is certainly perceivable as an Aoud scent (or perhaps rather as a "scent with a noticeable Aoud note").

Mysterious Oud is most closely related to Royal Oud by Creed, although Mysterious Oud is fresher and at the same time more aoud-like and richer. Not a pale beauty, but a guy with some chest hair. Those who like Creed's Royal Oud and want a fragrance that has an even more aoud-like facet will likely love Mysterious Aoud. Also considering the moderate price.

Mysterious Oud opens with cedar, woody fresh and resinously sweet. But not sticky, rather with a light green pine needle note. Aoud plays a (quite attractive) supporting role in the top note. The Aoud is of an ethereal, fresh, and resinous character, which highlights the fresh and woody character of the top note.

The cedar becomes woodier and greener towards the heart note, becoming pleasantly more aromatic and warmer, without appearing heavy or explicitly masculine. The Aoud remains bright, develops a hint of wonderful mustiness, is transparent, and has a minimal leathery facet. Exactly that certain something that Creed's Aoud scent lacks. Alongside, jasmine blooms, lightly floral, sweet, and with certain green aspects.

Towards the base, the aromatic cedar and the Aoud slowly recede. The scent character becomes cuddly, warm, and soft thanks to amber and musk, supported by a warm and sweetly creamy sandalwood note.

Mysterious Aoud is thus more of a "scent with Aoud" than an "Aoud scent" (in the sense of the perfumes from XerJoff, Al Kimiya, Roja Dove, etc.). While Aoud together with cedar forms the supporting beam of the fragrance, the Aoud note is not dominant like in the aforementioned fragrances.

The fresh, slightly musty, and rather bright Aoud note will appeal to many who cannot relate to heavy, animalistic, very dark, earthy, screaming loud, and leathery rose-Aoud scent divas.

Mysterious Oud takes an interesting scent journey on the skin. The fragrance starts woody fresh and green, then becomes aromatic woody and slightly musty aoud-like in the heart, to finish cuddly, ambery warm, and musky soft.

Mysterious Oud is not mysterious or enigmatic. The perfume is a beautiful woody all-rounder. Perhaps like the memory of the first family vacation in winter in the Canary Islands. Not a truly exclusive vacation (and one was still too young to indulge in the fleeting annoyance, the flirtatious restlessness, the reckless grace, and the slightly scandalous regrets), but wonderfully relaxed and eternally spring-like.

Bright fresh wood and not at all mysterious. Plus honey-sweet resins and flowers. Warm, soft + light. In DD musk fluff. Everyday suitable.

Well, this is mainly a rather uninspired synthetic oud accord on cedarwood, like one has smelled many times before.

Oud as it should be: without animal notes, simple, subtle, almost fleeting-ethereal. Underlined by the softest wood tones. Beautiful & very harmonious.

Woody transparency in pastel colors. Frosted glass in soft blue and sand. A delicate scent for warm days. Subtle yet noticeable sillage, lovely.

A pleasant, elegant, fresh all-rounder! Reminds me a lot of "Cuirs" by Carner Barcelona! Did they forget to include leather in the pyramid?

Most beautiful woody oud + resinous scent, mild + honey flower mix - at first. 2. It lacks contrast. 3. Synthetic, aquatic.
