Dreamt Out
I have little to no experience with amber scents. When amber appears in one of my perfumes, it is usually hard to detect. Therefore, I was all the more curious when I found a sample of "Ambre du rêve" in my last order. Amber right in the perfume name? I had never encountered that before.
Well, I'm not squeamish and immediately doused myself in it. First of all, a very spicy potpourri hits you. Generally, I really like spicy scents, and this one is no exception. Cinnamon works for me almost always, and I find the carrot as a green counterpoint interesting, but I'm waiting in vain for the cumin.
Unfortunately, all of that disappears very quickly, and what comes through is turmeric, and I mean a lot of it! I couldn't have imagined that this would become a problem, as I like to season my food with turmeric when it fits. But on my skin, it overwhelms everything, really EVERYTHING else. Now I smell as if I had bathed in curry. Ylang-Ylang could be a lovely companion if only I could somehow sniff it out. Unfortunately, it has diluted and makes the main player seem quite sweet from the background.
One must give turmeric credit: it is very persistent, as I only smell this one note for hours on end.
In the end, it still paves the way for a rather dusty-looking patchouli. Wood? Vanilla? My skin seems to have swallowed the base notes somehow.
This is not meant to be a real bashing. The scent is well-made, I believe, though I'm no expert. It’s just not for me. For someone with a different skin type, a fondness for turmeric, or someone with different scent preferences, it is surely recommendable. Unfortunately, the amber dream remains elusive for me.
