Lightweight vetiver
Behind this perfume, housed in the Cologne series, hides one of the most beautiful classic vetiver's, right from the early 2000s, when in many respects a renewed interest in vetiver has emerged. Perhaps the way via the series was the only plausible way for Comme des Garçons to release such a solid vetiver. Vettiveru2 (I can't make a direct comparison to Vettiveru, my impressions are that it's very similar) reminds me at first sight of Givenchy's old vetiver - without the coriander and everything much softer drawn, and also of a Paul Smith Eau de Cologne from the mid-90s, which was available for direct purchase in his stores at the time - which in turn also made me think of Givenchy's vetiver. Fast forward a few years from 2002, other connections come to mind. Sycomore in the eau de toilette version or Vetiver Tonka staged this extremely lovely vetiver form even more clearly. Vettiveru2 is to date, also Mark Buxton's last work with Comme des Garçons and an interesting point in this collaboration: a first-class, modern lightweight vetiver.
p.s. 2022: Vettiveru and Vettiveru2 are indeed very, very similar. Here I have the impression that it is actually the vetiver note that makes the difference. Vettiveru2 seems a bit more rubbery and minimally dull, Vettiveru, fresher and more vetiver-conventional, the rubber aspect is there but remains in the background. The colors of both scents are also quite different; Vettiveru was much more saturated and darker, but this may also be due to the age of the bottle.
