Copper Comme des Garçons 2019

I had no idea what to expect from this scent, based on the wide variety of opinions and associations in the reviews. Now that I have gotten acquainted with this scent, I can confidently say that it is not the most challenging Comme des Garçons out there, but it will perturb an average perfume fan who is unfamiliar with conceptual CdG scents. It opens with a blast of galbanum, and I looooove galbanum, so I was instantly enjoying it. Then tobacco came in - the fresh tobacco, not the smoked cigarettes. I've never smelled a galbanum-tobacco mix, so that was fun. Kind of like a cigar made out of cucumbers, but in a good way. The dry-down is what truly convinced me that I liked Copper : it is the papery dry unsweet vanilla with a strong metallic pink pepper, which actually does smell like copper a bit. I normally do not care all that much neither about vanilla nor about pink pepper, but here together they really create something unique and interesting. Overall, fun concept, and still very wearable, in my opinion.

P.S. It is NOTHING like Iris Malikhân , do not even compare Copper to that synthetic screechy generic mess! Ugh!

This is my #1 fragrance of all time. Opens with a slight metallic, earthy, and clay-ish smell, the clay accord tones down and you can smell this sweet minty scent which reminds me of powdery spearmint gum strips. I can pick up a slight tobacco scent, reminds me of an unlit cigarette.

This is my favorite weird fragrance, cause it is not a putrid type of weird, more so an interesting type of weird, if I had some money laying around, I would buy at least 3 bottles to last me a lifetime, that's how much I love it!

It is a conceptual fragrance, like many others from Comme des Garçons.
While copper is indeed the common thread, in my opinion, the execution falls a bit short.
Let me explain.
As a material, copper could have offered such beautiful possibilities: it is an excellent conductor, so one could have imagined a vibrant composition, flickering with metallic sparks, heat, and tension.

Instead, the resinous and dry side of myrrh hits me very quickly — undoubtedly the intended link.
Its warm and intense facets could have worked wonders, but then... what are these vanilla spices doing in the mix?
I don't really see a copper cauldron heating up a vanilla milk cream, either.

Nevertheless, it remains a wearable fragrance, with amber and spicy notes — a rather discreet perfume — and therefore, again, wearable.
I don't like it, but it could work very well on many others.
And, there are very few creations from Comme des Garçons that I truly dislike.

opens very sharp, almost peppery but it reminds me highly of that metallic taste you get when you test a 9v on your tongue. The slight sting/jolt with it. It's quite invigorating. A bit similar to verdigris as well. Then it has a kind of weird almost stale air accord. Not mineralic, but unoccupied but technically safe, maybe a bit dusty.

Becomes kind of this strange, swarm air but slightly spicy dry and maybe a touch burnt. The dry down which is actually very pleasant. Elusive though, hard to smell directly but present through projection.

Projection remains soft, but the alluring spice mix lasted 8+ hours til post workout and bathing and it just drew me in all day. A surprisingly comfortable scent. Sneaks right up on you.

And now it's corroded and covered in patina.

It starts with a punchy galbanum and ginger combo that evokes the feel of a cool copper coin on your tongue, so real you can almost taste this metallic and bitter feeling. In a few minutes, it gets watered down with myrrh and gains a slightly dusty and sweet nuance, almost reminiscent of wet earth and petrichor

Vanilla here is subtle. It's also covered by the layer of dust and projects a thin stream of balsamic sweetness combined with warm amber hints.

I'm a sucker for CdG fragrances, as it appears, and for me, it's a perfect urban amber scent: it has a unique character without being too overpowering.
