Oh, the humanity!
Run, citizens, and save yourselves! A huge meteorite has come screaming down from the sky, and it has landed in a field of violets. The flowers are burning!
________________

Stephen Jones described his eponymous fragrance as “futuristic but rococo” and as “a violet that’s been hit by a meteorite.” And when this fragrance was released, the promised notes included "magma."

Let me assure you that while my report of falling meteorites was merely metaphoric, it is deadly accurate as a description of this fragrance.

Upon application of Stephen Jones, aldehydes jump out like fireworks. And that's just the beginning.

Almost immediately, the scent of scorched violets fills your nose. Not just singed, mind you, but scorched.

The dry smokiness morphed into incense after a while for me. But not just any incense. This is the incense of a hundred Russian Orthodox priests waving censers over the burnt violets, and over the crater made by the meteorite.

Stephen Jones is not just a fragrance, but an apocalyptic experience. I think it's great.

Dark, complex yet strangely inviting
An intriguing fragrance to say the least. I'm certain that anything with a marketing description of 'violets that have been hit by meteorites' would have anyone rushing out to get themselves a sample.

This fragrance, while strange, is not so futuristic in my opinion. It's more like violets with an attitude, being ever so edgy, dark and violent. I also feel that Stephen Jones falls under a gothic category.

Stephen Jones makes me fall in love with it the same way one would fall in love with Dior's Poison. That potent richness is strangely appealing, like something you'd expect to find, covered in dust, hidden away from the light in Count Dracula's basement.

It has a lot of character, but it's also a dark, Wintery scent, which will appeal to those that like anything ever so slightly depressing during the colder months.

The notes in this composition are not bright nor feminine. There is an obvious dark component added to each accord, with red rose, sharp violets, indolic jasmine, rich cloves and resinous amber keeping this fragrance from becoming a typical, tea party type scent.

The lasting power is exceptionally good, as is the sillage which could possibly knock someone out cold. I've come to the conclusion that I really like this fragrance, however I'm a little afraid to wear it in case someone might mistake me for a vampire.

Late Afternoon in the Garden of Fake Plastic Flowers
Stephen Jones goes on aggressively floral/fresh, more fresh than floral, but not as aggressive as room freshener or toilet deoderizer, thank goodness. Rugby by Royall Lyme of Bermuda has the best violet that I've smelled thus far, and SJ just doesn't top it. It Here, the violet is tamed - it is aromatic, fresh, and slightly nauseating. If fake flowers had a smell, I imagine they would smell like this, towards the close of the day.

An hour in, the fresh/aggro/floral vibe fades and a oily, lush, musk begins to whisper. This is the onset of night, and I implore it to arrive. No long twilight, please! Two hours later, the musk is ascendent, but it's too late. This scent simply takes too long to get to the good part, like a movie that barely manages liftoff by thirty minutes in. Worse, it takes back its promises and reverts to the aggro/fresh direction by hour four and by that time, I was done. I had no desire to spend the night in the plastics garden. No doubt, this scent would have emitted its flowery synthetic aroma for the remainder of the night had I remained.

Recommended for enthusiasts of CDG. Their scents have never worked for me, and this marks my last experience with them.

That’s a Hat Going Crazy in the Box
Stephen Jones is probably the best milliner of the last 100 years and one of the most creative as well.

He began his career in early 80s London. For a time, he shared a house with Boy George, and Steve Strange financially supported him in opening his first hat shop. Among his first clients were the Blitz Kids, those club-goers from the legendary New Romantic disco in Covent Garden.

The list of fashion houses that Jones has worked for and continues to work for is extensive, and of course, the British royal family is among his clients.
He is also responsible for Vivienne Westwood's famous tweed crown.

Stephen Jones has represented and continues to represent fashion avant-garde, so it is not surprising that he lent his name to a fragrance from CdG.

The scent is, I find, a typical CdG. Unconventional, slightly edgy, yet still very wearable. The prerequisite, of course, is that one can handle a touch of synthetics and a good amount of violet.

Right from the top note, it’s floral, and I perceive the first minutes as almost metallic and green.

With the heart note, it becomes very dry and herb-powdery. The violet has conspired with the carnation against the remaining flowers. Only the jasmine protests a bit against the overpowering violet dominance.

Floral, dry, and subtly spicy, the scent then fades out.

Although this is a floral orgy par excellence, the scent, due to its metallic-green composition, never comes off as cloying or boring.

The longevity is good, and the scent aura is noticeable but not overwhelming. Just like with the hats, one will definitely be noticed with the perfume.

By the way, the packaging is also very amusing, as the bottle is nestled in a black face veil, like those once used on fruit hats, and everything is contained in a small black hat box.

With an Umbrella, Charm...
Dear Batwoman Murcie,

I hope it's not too late, I must warn you!

Mad Hatter is after you!!!

He is so smitten with you that he will use any means necessary to ensnare you, not with microchips or other technical nonsense, but with a spray that manipulates your thoughts and makes you willing to exchange your cap.

Once he has sprayed you with it, you won't be able to escape!
The creamy intensity of jasmine clouds all your senses and the intoxication lasts forever.
I recently fell for it and sold him my rabbit for a few drops of this elixir.

My warning: It's best to stay out of Gotham City and please be very careful, the guy is 100% crazy and totally obsessed with you!!!

This letter may self-destruct after reading.

Regards, Your Lolle in Wonderland

A bold and successful combination of lush flowers and dusty powder. It seems innocent at first, but it has a mischievous side. Amazing!

Magma and meteorite? Maybe a bit exaggerated, but a very nice green unisex floral scent that becomes increasingly baby-powdery. Fine.

Fascinator in the shape of a violet-colored cylinder. The brim is gathered like carnations. Veil made of delicate powdery net metal. I tip my hat!

A rolling sea filled with a variety of scents. Violet, rose, carnation, metal, and soap. Surprisingly, it all comes together well.

The impacts of decadence are getting closer: meteorite hits magma?
Instead, a cool violet soap with metallic powder!
