Give it a chance & take a whiff! Classic-modern men's fragrance icon
THE PROLOGUE:
(feel free to skip -> "TO THE FRAGRANCE" to the fragrance ;-)
After a long time, I feel called upon again to send a review. And it's about a true Creed underdog - Tabarome Millésime. An almost classic fragrance in terms of age alone, now 24 years old from my - yes I am surprised myself - favorite house Creed. I can't say exactly why I'm a Creed fan. I have been through many "high-quality" premium houses (many Roja, PdM, Amouage MFK, EdPFM, Xerjoff, and what they are all called) and only the bottles of Creed (almost exclusively ersoukt here - the souk here: simply ingenious - ingeniously simple!) have remained, while the first-mentioned have continued to 'soukt' after often quite short guest appearances.
Maybe it's because, at a slightly more advanced age in my early 50s, I like more and more "classic" fougere-like, citrusy, woody, spicy, fresh things, and the more pompous, sweetly gourmand, oriental-sultry or even floral is less and less my thing (or actually never was - or, if I did, I only liked it briefly, but after a short time it simply gets on my olfactory nerves).
And Creed has some nasal-iconic recognizable classics in exactly my direction, as you can see from my small collection.

ABOUT THE FRAGRANCE:
Rather by chance, as it is hardly offered and even less discussed or in focus, I spontaneously bought the aforementioned T. M. here (batch code F000xxx indicates the year 2022 ff.) and the first time I sprayed it on, there was a lot of oooooo mis-buy skepticism: citrusy-spicy with ginger and an underlying tobacco note (fresh tobacco, in my opinion), never smelled like this before, in high concentration, which initially left my nose perplexed and a little overwhelmed.
I was already inwardly sorting it out, but then gave it a chance for a few days, and like a complex song that doesn't immediately catch the ear due to its lack of compositional simplicity, T.M. improved in my nose from day to day. I like the fresh, citrusy start, which soon turns into an ethereal, spicy freshness. I also like the development towards a classic woody note at the end. Once again, this is one of the Creeds with a beautiful head->heart->base transition. I think Creed is also particularly good at this.
-> My nose has worked it out and now finds it really good.

Sillage is there, but always closer to the body and not overpowering (very important to me personally).

I find the longevity very good, after 8 to 10 hours the woody drydown is still good, but then already very close to the body, smellable, longer on clothes.

THE CONCLUSION:
In my eyes, this is a unique, classic-modern men's fragrance, quite suitable for the office and official occasions, even in the evening, rather for the more mature man, which you may have to 'work out' first. Then it will appeal to connoisseurs and friends of citrusy-fresh-spicy fragrances. For women it is therefore - imho! - nothing.
And one more thing: I explicitly don't find it old-school, old-fashioned and classic, but that always depends on my personal olfactory experience and the olfactory memories associated with it - they are neutral for me - I didn't know it and don't associate it with anyone or anything.
Ergo: If you like the direction - get enough sample material, 'familiarize' yourself with the nose and then, with a bit of luck, buy it here at least on more reasonable terms ;-)

Old Time Sophistication
Now imagine Sherlock Holmes smoking his pipe by a open fire or Humphery Bogert in his dressing gown holding a conqac standing by a piano. This scent is a classic warm and very sensual fragrance that has that old time sophistication about it.

To me it smells like a sweet Jasmine type fragrance that has been darkened with tobacco and ginger to make it more masculine type scent. It also has a combination to my nose of sandalwood, patchouli and vetiver , subtly blended with lighter , fresh aroma of Green Tea mandarin and lemon all woven together in a bouquet of sweet/tobacco scent reminisce of the 1950's. Or to put it simply a sweet tobacco scent. Lol

Now I like this as it evokes the 1950's or what Sherlock Holmes would wear and it is nice but not a scent you would say wow or I have to have this. I like this as I appreciate classic scents and I like my Creed scents.

Dry and crisp tobacco
I've spent quite some time trying to track down this fragrance, well to be honest anything by Creed. Seeming that this fragrance hinted at all things tobacco (one of my favourite notes), I thought it might as well be the perfect Creed introduction.

Surprisingly Tabarome isn't as bold and masculine as I imagined it to be. The scent is quite soft and oddly refreshing. The tobacco note is certainly there, however it's not as strong as let's say, Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford.

I get a smooth, slightly dry blend of ginger, lemon, sandalwood, tea and tobacco. There's a hint of musky sweetness every now and then, which brings me to suggest this fragrance for both sexes, despite its rather masculine qualities.

Tabarome is quite sexy, in a ruggedly masculine, strictly business type fashion. The composition is balanced and very classic. Apparently Winston Churchill wore this, and I must agree that in some ways this fragrance would suit a much older man.

At times this fragrance has a rather bitter edge, most likely brought about by the ginger clashing with the vetiver. It's not unpleasant, but it's perhaps an acquired taste. Tabarome also has a very subtle hint of soapiness.

In regards to longevity, Tabarome is great, however there are moments when I'm slightly anosmic to this fragrance. The beauty of Tabarome comes and goes as it pleases.

Could Tobacco Be The Next Patchouli?
I am beginning to wonder whether I may have been a chain smoker in a past life, as I find myself delighted by every fragrance in which tobacco plays a central role, and especially in savory presentations. Part of my excitement may be due to the relative dearth of the tobacco note in women's perfume, and especially outside gourmand territory.

Creed TABAROME is a delectable tobacco composition with no sweetness, no ashiness, and no dirtiness. This is not the smell of cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. TABAROME is clean, wet, green, freshly harvested piles of tobacco leaves, beautifully framed by a few gentle aromatics. Fresh tea leaves are present as well, along with sandalwood, vetiver and musk, serving to anchor the composition and impart good longevity and medium sillage.

I do not believe that TABAROME is suited only for men, nor that this is an "old school", "landed gentry" frag. I find this sumptuous in the way in which so many patchouli perfumes are--the clean ones, not the dark, dirty ones.

Perhaps tobacco land owners should abandon their doomed projects to create new smokers and instead divert their energies, resources and time to the perfume industry. I honestly believe that now that patchouli has achieved market saturation, tobacco could be the new patchouli...

Highly recommended and highly coveted...

--------------

I acquired a bottle of this which may be a fake, as my estimation is much lower. Smells like aromachemicals. Batch issue or fake? That is the question...

A great fragrance, a weak performance
Many thanks to Carsten for the many bottlings :-) Today I wore Tabarome Millésime to work. I really liked the scent and my best friend was also quite taken with it. Unfortunately, the fragrance doesn't last longer than about 6 to 7 hours and after about 3 to 4 hours it's already very close to the skin. The sillage is very restrained. Anyone who knows Creed's prices will certainly understand my disappointment.

The top note starts with grapefruit, ginger and a subtle peppery note. The heart note offers a clear tea aroma with blackcurrants. I cannot detect the notes of coffee and rum mentioned in the fragrance pyramid. The base smells beautifully of tobacco with a subtle woody note.

If the whole thing smelled longer and stronger, this fragrance could move in with me sooner. Although the price is still steep...

This feels like I'm wearing 2 fragrances. One zingy and fresh. The other smokey and woody. The notes both clash and compliment each other.

Based on the notes I had high hopes for this one despite the bad reviews. At first wear I'm not impressed, it's Ok at best
