Guavas and cream
Stories is a little underrated in my opinion. Not great enough to buy, but the 6.2 rating it has on here doesn't make sense to me. Sadly it was unpopular enough to be discontinued by now, so I guess not too many agree.

Anyways, let's talk about the notes.
Guava is one of the lesser used fruit in perfumery, and I can really smell it here. It's fresh and juicy, but it has a warm undertone that always seems a little spicy and green-ish to me. Hard to describe, but I also get this from guava juice, not just in perfumes. I like it a lot.
The other standout notes to my nose are pink pepper and sandalwood, both adding a dry, warm, woodsy background to the fruitiness, and of course vanilla. It's a very milky, creamy vanilla. Some other site list milk mousse as a note for this. Not sure if it was ever officially communicated by DKNY, but I think it describes the sweet, vanillic part of this fragrance very well.
This combination of guava, woodsy and sweet notes is quite unique to me.

Even though there is a hint of saltiness that makes me understand where the comparisons are coming from, I do not find this similar to any version of Mugler's Womanity or Rabanne's Olympea (like some votes on here suggest).

In my opinion this is neither a wintery, nor a summery fragrance. It's best suited for daytime use in the transitional seasons.

A Mercurial Goldilocks
It's a bit difficult to review this perfume because, if I didn't know better, I'd swear it's tempermental and has a tendency to behave in an odd manner. On me, it is very weather sensitive and changeable, and I don't mean "changeable" as non-linear,although the fragrance is not linear.

Examples: (1) the first time I wore it, we were having cool, dry weather. Stories opened with a salty/sweet fruit accord and some spice, not too heavy or too light. It's very nice and IMO unisex. (2) In cool, humid weather, the opening is cloyingly sweet, making me feel as though I was being suffocated with cotton candy. (3) In hot, humid weather, it's very sweet, but it isn't nearly as sweet as it was in cool, humid weather, and the spice was more prevalent in the hot/humid than cool/humid. Still nice and unisex for men who like sweet scents. (4) When it was hot and dry (usually our summers are hot and very humid), I got the suffocating cotton candy cloud again. I haven't tried it in colder temperatures yet.

The drydown was nice, although nothing special, in both cool/dry and hot/humid weather and very, very sweet and vanillic in cool/humid and hot/dry weather.

So, for me, when Stories works, it works well, and when it doesn't work, it's pretty awful. I have fragrances that perform better in humid or dry weather and that perform better in heat or cold, but I've never had any fragrance that changes this much depending on the combination of temperature and humidity. Stories is like the tale of Goldilocks, everything has to be just right for her.

This isn't at all evocative of NYC for me. I'd associate it more with cities like Kansas City or San Diego, maybe LA. This doesn't really matter though, unless you want something that really is evocative of NYC.

In spite of the low price, I do not recommend blind buying, but that is based on my experience, which is, admittedly, rather strange.

Fairground in dry-shrill
Candy-colored! And fruity guavas send their greetings. But with pepper? And cardamom? Does it smell like a fairground in late autumn? Yes, for very young people, I’d say between 14 and 22.
Of course, older folks can wear this perfume too; it's a matter of personal taste!!
And a whole lot of dusty dry iris releases its powder. Very fine powder! This creates a long "after-scent," then a follow-up fragrance, similar to a mix of hot chestnuts and roasted almonds. With quite a bit of vanilla.
Yes, the late fairground (or Christmas market??) is very much in the air here. In dry-cold weather. A scent breeze, like sandalwood incense sticks, wafts towards the nose. It then mingles with smells of patchouli and spicy assortments. A "freshly-baked waffle note" also joins in.
A fragrance medley that may evoke memories of early youth. Not a direct "gourmand" - probably not overly sweet either, but somehow also a bit shrill. And slightly "abstract" ;-))

Urban Serenity
My girlfriend is from NY - and she keeps asking me to come visit, as she believes I would fit into this city.

Everything that is colorful and shiny I would find there - and many junk shops with kitsch and trinkets.
That sounds tempting, of course.

And then there’s the American serenity.

I imagined the Big Apple to be rather hectic - but my girlfriend denies it.
The American way of life is supposedly much more tranquil than the German one.

And the stories from DKNY speak a thoughtful language.

The scent is modern, but it’s more for strolling than for rushing.
With it, you can take a nice leisurely walk.

The spices are exquisite - gently wafted by soothing tea.
Jasmine is softly powdered by iris, and the vanilla adds a sweet softness.
Sandalwood and amber snuggle up intimately.

The stories that this scent tells speak of harmony and a happy ending.

Exactly what I want to read and smell.

Starts like Mugler's Womanity, not quite as salty but very similar, becoming creamier and fruitier over time with a sandalwood note.

Fresh start, fruity and solidly underlined with tea. Pepper occasionally shines through, then jasmine beautifully! Overall weak H&S.

One of those overly sweet fruity florals that digs into your nasal passages with its synthetic scent & clings there for hours. Soft base.

Alcoholic top note, then turns into an undefinable fresh, fruity, floral scent with a teen note. Quite nice, but not my cup of tea...

Powdery, fresh with a herb-spicy undertone - I like it.

Pungently sweet, fruity, floral. Nothing outstanding. Cheerful, squeaky. Mundane. Little mystery. Headache candidate.

The top note is terrible, then it gets a bit better, fruity, sweetish, so-so.

Behind the fruits lurk spicy powders that dry dust - jasmine tea to vanilla crescents on an Indian evening. Then ambered sandalwood cake - SWEET!

Sweet, little fruity scent, could also be a shower gel. Lacks depth, little evolution, light and summery. For the very young!
