Bought it and love it!
More caramel and less patchouli than the original Mid Poison.
I get a lot less soapy-ness from this than the original and a "deeper" base.
I like it better than the original and will buy this instead!

Not Cinderella, it's "The Witches of Eastwick"...
that makes me think of Midnight Poison Elixir.

The three full-blooded women of a certain age, Alex, Jane, and Sukie, really heat things up for the sorcerer Van Horne, the devil in human form, played by the grand and unparalleled Jack Nicholson, using all means and the corresponding sophistication of modern emancipated women who no longer want to beat around the bush. However, the devil is not to be underestimated, and no one could possibly play this role more madly than the incomparable Jack Nicholson.

A lovely, enchanting, and well-behaved Cinderella does not fit into my picture of this fragrance at all, and the prince on the white horse does not come to mind either; he is known to want no witch, but a well-behaved beautiful Cinderella. The advertising for Midnight Poison is well done, but unfortunately far too innocent for this scent. The color of the night, this wonderful darkened blue, is for me the color of witches, of mystique, of magic - modernly interpreted. Midnight Poison Elixir is a fragrance inspired by the night, but far too dangerous for Cinderella!

I have had the sample for a long time, a gift from my dear Blanche, and had I known what surprise awaited me, the test would have been conducted long ago. I have always been enthusiastic about the Dior Poison line, both visually and in content. Still, I somehow expected something more along the lines of Hypnotic Poison or Pure Poison.

Midnight Poison, on the other hand, takes a powerful run-up. The top note is so strong that I feel I can barely take a second breath. It was only on the third attempt that I managed to do so, like a dance around the witch's fire. However, I cannot dissect the top note; a stubborn spiciness emerges that I know more from men's fragrances. Even the caramel note seems quite bitter and unsweetened to me. Could it be, amber in the top note with caramel? I find that a bit puzzling, especially since I have to think of the good old Angel.

It becomes softer, but it is not the rose, patchouli, and vanilla note that I love so much that crowns the heart and now lulls me sweetly; rather, a harsher and very dominant patchouli note makes its appearance. The rose really has to assert itself to avoid being overshadowed. From now on, Midnight Poison Elixir strongly reminds me of ZEN by Shiseido and also a bit of Euphoria with its strong patchouli note. However, the base is not crowned by the creaminess of Euphoria nor by the velvety skin connection of the ZEN fragrance. In the base, a somewhat masculine note develops on my skin, which may be due to the amber note and the massive patchouli note that lingers stubbornly, along with the fact that I hardly perceive any other fragrance note here. A devilish guy could easily wear this scent. However, to enchant me, the base would have needed a special magic.

Well, this fragrance has somewhat confused me, but Midnight Poison is a very interesting mysterious representative from the Poison line. A very exciting test! Due to its comparability from the middle, I personally prefer ZEN and Euphoria.

Oh yes, do watch "The Witches of Eastwick" again!

Shadow Play at Midnight

Midnight Poison Elixir immediately wraps its heavy cloak around the wearer, casting their shadow far and wide behind them. The scent fits the night as well as the owl that roams the trees at night. It illuminates everything under the full moon, which hangs tired over the quiet city. A hint of spices flutters through the dark alleys - patchouli stretches out on the damp ground, unleashing all its power that lasts until the very end. Everything is embraced by a warm and deep sweetness, as if the fragrance were rocking one to sleep. Actually. Because if you want to sleep, you certainly wouldn’t wear this elixir. You would rather want to make a statement to the world.

This is not a scent for those who cannot handle too much patchouli. Because here it is massively present and broods endlessly, revealing all its sins and depths. Strong and full in its appearance. Yet it simply fits. This is simply Midnight Poison, as we all know it. Just a tad richer and more mysterious than the first sister. Why such a wonderful Poison was discontinued is truly a mystery to me.

The scent itself revolves mainly around patchouli. From beginning to end. It becomes increasingly profound, reaching for the damp earth, pulling it up to turn it into mere dust. Dry vanilla lingers deep inside, becoming a bit more fluid over time. A warm core of caramel timidly makes its presence known but is quickly overwhelmed by patchouli. Earthy facets adorned with soft powder grace the heart of the fragrance. Shadows are cast wide and voluminously, as if they belong to no personality. All these scenes are enchanted by the warm wind from the Orient, which flows haltingly through the alleys. It feels as if a storm is raging in the Sahara, bringing everything to me. A whirlwind. An oriental whirlwind.

In the background, rose petals make their first appearance. However, they are initially thought to be in water, thus floating. Like an approaching danger. They are not red roses. No color of love. They are black roses, resting in the water and stealthily flowing into the fragrance. One is also lightly pricked. The rose scent becomes richer as patchouli retreats a bit. Embraced by the resting night. Once again illuminated by the full moon. It strikes midnight.

Thus, the scent rests on the body for many hours. A hot, chaotic, and crazy night is no problem for this fragrance. It defies all conceivable things. It envelops the wearer with a sophistication that is truly rare. A truly divine oriental that knows all the art of transporting its wearer to another world and solidifying them as well. Not just them. Also their shadow. It feels as if the shadow carries a scent too. Because Midnight Poison boasts with its sillage and devours some dark images that manifest from a person at various places. MD Elixir reaches out to people, shedding all pretenses - so that one can stand there even without a shadow!

And so we play a game.
The game of shadow casting.
Protected by the night,
yet seized by light.
Throw me your black favor,
saturate yourself with my image.

And so we play.
Again and again.
The shadow play at midnight ..

Queen of the Dark Forests
Belladonna - The Deadly Nightshade
*
…A deep pull draws me down to you
into your enchanted realm far beyond all human understanding
Having tasted your sweet, deep violet fruits, I enter your kingdom of the shadows of the night
(Heinz Bauereiss)
*
No, Belladonna is not in Midnight Poison Elixir, but this fragrance can be compared to Belladonna.
Toxic, black, beautiful, dangerous, aphrodisiac, intoxicatingly aromatic, sweet, herbal, and magical.
*
Belladonna - also known as deadly nightshade - was historically used by women for beauty purposes, as the atropine-containing juice has a pupil-dilating effect and gives the eyes a dark, shiny appearance. Belladonna is also considered an ancient magical plant. Erotic dreams and delusions, this magical plant can bring about everything.
To win a girl's affection, the root of a deadly nightshade should be dug up, and offerings for the plant spirit should be placed in its place. A potion made from the root was said to have an aphrodisiac effect. Worn as an amulet around the neck, the deadly nightshade root helped to gain the affection of others, etc.
*
Enough of the history. For me, Midnight Poison Elixir is truly toxic. The combination of amber, caramel, patchouli, rose, and vanilla creates an earthy, finely herb-sweet fragrance.
Patchouli in "MPE" does not come across as grave-like or extremely damp-earthy, but rather as if one is reaching into dry soil and "stirring" until one encounters slightly moist earth. From this earth grows a deep red rose, its scent enchanting the senses, sweetly enveloped with amber and vanilla, and the tips of the thorns - if touched - soaked in caramel. Not a sweet fragrance, but rather herb-green with a sweet touch. Different from the Poisons of the red variety. More mature, darker, mysterious, and simply beautiful. MPE has a slight "masculine" inclination, and I can absolutely imagine this fragrance on a man as well.

Walpurgis Night Special
Is this the darkest Poison of all time? In any case, this shadowy patchouli elixir puts some well-known niche hits in the shade and surprises with a forest earthiness that is (not) washed away...

Many toxic and bitter "Poisons" from Dior have been released over the decades. Sometimes plump sweet, sometimes skillfully clever. I certainly haven't experienced them all... But this midnight (nightmare) could put them all in the abyssal bag! Woody, damp, mossy, leafy, autumnal. Not rosy at all, let alone sweet on my skin. Will it eventually... but it remains a shadowy forest monster! Unruly and little domesticated. I did not expect it to be this radical. Patchouli perfumes hardly come more gripping, purer, and fuller. Edgar Allen Poe tips his hat. Lovecraft invites to dance. The raven groans in rhythm. The moon casts its light. The poisoned apple has already rotted. Some niche products that specialize in this cannot be so consistently! A massively bold scent that makes you seriously wonder at first if it might be off. Purple and mystical. Velvety and mythical. Enshrouded in legend and enchanted. There, the flying brooms crackle, there, the black cats roar. A Halloween scent. Hippie, goth, all-in-one.

Bottle: blue, nocturnal, great
Sillage: dense dark wood thicket
Longevity: 12 hours and more - survives the longest full moon night!

Conclusion: perhaps the most interesting and daring Poison of all... The thing from the swamp sends its regards!

Soft, warm, deep, maybe a bit wicked too, elegant. Patchouli not earthy, but full and round. The rose not in focus*

But quickly it becomes soft and flattering

Similar to the EdP but with more patchouli here. The freshness from the fruits is gone, replaced by a spicier sweetness. Elixir Pure! A masterpiece!
