Forgettable...

Fusion of Oud Ispahan and Ambre Nuit? I get spiciness and slightly skanky oud vibes. Not unique and redundant. I could imagine this in a designers line not niche. It can be itchy, sharp, sticky, loud. I believe Demachy was out of creativity and rushed an idea of capturing sandalwood in Dior`s style.

It's interesting how much the scent develops on you, and you recognize it differently. When I initially bought a bottle, it was a spicy sandalwood with oriental style. Now I mostly feel the rose with a woody arab-oriental sandalwood as a companion, but not the main player. On my skin it goes strong for 4 hours and then disappears completely like a candle being shut down. I don't see any creaminess in sandalwood here, like many others mention. Sandalwood is smoky and dry inhere.

I'm not sure about the rumors of being discontinued, I just checked the dior Europe website (9th of November 2023) and it's available for purchase.

SMOKY LEATHER SANDALWOOD WITH OUD AND ROSE

There's more to it than just the official notes. It features smoky oud, aromatic/spicy notes, a soapy musk accord, and a burnt leather note.

If Santal Royal and Oud Ispahan had a baby it would be Santal Noir. I already own Santal Royal by Guerlain and Oud Ispahan. I find Santal Noir to be a copycat creation, making it somewhat redundant.

Santal Noir is a classy number. Meditative 'shadow work' fragrance, suitable for spiritual private moments.. Or black tie events. It undeniably exudes a "noir" quality, if you catch my drift. It's not a scent that evokes joy.

More fitting for the winter season. It leans towards a masculine fragrance. Great performance.

A Fusion of Familiarity

I purchased this blind, as I was intrigued by the title and notes alone. I’m amazed at the amount of people who have compared this to Chanel’s classic Egoïste. I’m normally one to say “everyone perceives scent differently”, but that comparison is way off the mark. If Ambre Nuit and Oud Ispahan were one fragrance it would equal Santal Noir.

There is a lot of ambrette in this bottle, which tends to have iris and rose-like undertones. There is already a presence of rose that consistently lingers from beginning to end. So while Santal Noir has woody characteristics, it’s also quite floral as well; bearing no resemblance to Chanel Egoïste. No shade thrown, but the "santal" aspect of this fragrance appears to be absent or so subtle that it easily goes undetected. Buried deep beneath the surface however, was something that even reminded me of Absolutely Blooming. Classy and yes familiar, but in the Dior kind of way.

Spicy sweet sandalwood

Nice sandalwood scent with a bit of spice and sweetness. Initially more masculine, in the dry down it becomes more sweet and feminine. Average longevity, pretty weak projection, which makes me question its value considering the steep price. Wouldn’t buy a full bottle. Other Dior offerings are better.
