Heavenly Scent
Sometimes I have the impression that there are as many different perfumes as there are stars in the sky. You can never know them all; there’s always something new to discover, and sometimes a new scent or brand unexpectedly falls under your nose like a shooting star.
This recently happened with Dorin. Through a dear perfume friend, this brand suddenly appeared on my fragrance horizon.
The name of the scent refers to the origins of Dorin. The former traditional house was appointed in 1780 by Marie Antoinette as the official supplier of makeup, powder, and fragrances.
“Versailles 1780” begins with a bitter-herbaceous bergamot note, which is immediately replaced by a blend of almonds and violets, a very intriguing combination that I have never smelled before.
I can only detect the almonds and the subsequent rose directly on the skin; in projection, it gives an overall impression of a soft-floral-creamy scent.
After 5 to 10 minutes, peach and iris-powder lipstick appear on the horizon. I usually know this differently in fragrances. I am always on the hunt for beautiful lipstick notes. Unfortunately, these often disappear after a short wonderful start. Here, it’s quite the opposite; the lipstick note appears only after a short time and remains present until the end.
And very quickly, the other players benzoin, musk, and raspberry join in. As Kajsa5 aptly describes in her statement, the raspberry provides a zesty counterbalance to the sweetness of the peach, reminding me a bit of “Aromadite” (for those who know it ;-). The initial bitter note accompanies the entire progression.
Musk is very subtle, merely emphasizing the softness, while benzoin adds a minimal smokiness and resinous quality as the scent develops. I thought I smelled vanilla as well, but according to the fragrance pyramid, it is not present.
The handmade bottle is made of seemingly thick milky-white (almost pearlescent) glass, the gold stopper is heavy, and the spray mist is wonderfully fine and easily dosed. The only thing unworthy of this noble and expensive work is the paper label, which is slightly crooked and somewhat crumpled on my bottle.
I don’t yet know how far its projection reaches; I can perceive it on my skin for about 6 hours. However, since I also spray it on my hair and clothing, the scent lasts significantly longer, enveloping me in its heavenly aura of powdery-fruity lipstick. For an extrait, the longevity can probably be considered rather below average.
Just as the stars often burned out long ago when their light reaches us, “Versailles 1780” connects the here and now with a bygone era, uniting high modern perfumery with timeless traditional elegance. On Dorin's website, it is stated that this scent perfectly captures the time and life at the court of Marie Antoinette. And indeed, a hint of nostalgia wafts around me, creating a cloud of past days that provides a good distance from today’s everyday life.

soft floral almond/violet cream, delicate lipstick + white peach. The peach sweetness is softened by a fine spritz of raspberry - elegantly sweet

Powdery-herbaceous violet meets antique rose with a hint of lipstick! It feels mystical, elegant, and enchanting. Musk in the base, beautiful!

Unfortunately, at first I smell a resinous-green rose.
Raspberries and peach are too sweet for me.
The rest would be wonderfully soft and powdery.

The rose is a bit overwhelming at first, but otherwise, it has a lovely fruity lipstick note that lasts a long time. The base is dreamy.

The finest powdery scent I've ever encountered. All the notes beautifully intertwined. I can never get enough of this heavenly nectar...
