Flipflops, Baby Oil and Sand
True Love is all about "Wind Jammer" dayboat cruising with inexpensive sparkling wine, lots of blue and crisp white striped cotton tops without collars and flip flops on the boardwalk for casual Summer Saturdays in the 70s. Baby oil notes surround a pleasantly summery floral composition. Orris root and Heliotrope provide a noticeable powdery feeling to this beachy scent. Apricot and peach are two of my favorite notes and are surprisingly well blended and not cloyingly sweet here. My only issue with this scent is its high pitched economy quality synthetic jasmine note is totally out of control somewhere in the middle of this drydown for about 2 hours. Once that note settles down this is the scent of rubbery well worn flipflops, sunbaked skin kissed with tropical floral notes and a warm sandy vibe. True Love falls just short of being a Coppertone Suntan scent, but I can tell that it is a younger less complex cousin, who is missing the salty marine note, to Bobbi Brown's "Beach" and CB I Hate Perfume's "At the Beach 1966". The base is super smooth alluring amber with vanilla and cedar overtones. I picked this up for the price of a large double latte at my local discount retailer, so why not? It is very soft and feminine, perfect for Spring and Summer evenings or days at the beach. I find this very good sillage about 2 meters and lasting 8 hours on my skin. It is not something I reach for often. Nay, it is not mind-blowingly innovative and ground breaking in terms of its composition or execution, however, in the category of soften feminine florals that I'd recommend to budding perfumistas on a budget wanting to bolster their collections, this is a great one to have in there. As long as it is readily available at such low cost, I'll keep it on hand for Sunny days...

My First GrandBaby
True Love...what a poetic name for a perfume. I'm such a cynic. I'll roll my eyes admitting I wear this simply because of the name. But I always say we don't wear the label or the name, we wear the fragrance. I can't let it influence me.
True Love is a powdery floral reminiscent of roses that are sweet and would not offend a baby. It's gentle, clean with a woodsy hint of spices, with a hint of vanilla, similar to Love's Baby Soft. It's sillage is soft and it lasts as long as I want it to. In other words, a few sprays will last a few hours. It's not earth-shattering or ground-breaking, but not all fragrances need to be. At times, softness and quietness is needed.
At times, I need a scent so quiet, unassuming and soft that only I know it's there.
There could be many reasons. One could be under the weather, one could be visiting someone who cannot experience strong scents, or if you are going to be in a tight area, this is a good choice.
True Love also reminds me of babies, in a good way. It's a good choice to wear around very little ones if need be. This just fits the bill for a perfume lover that always wants to wear something but at times is limited in their choices.
I love perfume and always have. My daughter, on the other hand, wears two and owns only those two. (How could I have raised this anomaly?) When I visit her, she sniffs me and makes her usual pronouncement. "What is that you're wearing today?" And I tell her, and she harrumphs.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to be a grandmother soon, and I've been told I cannot wear my perfumes around my grandbaby. (Sad, but true.) I've told her that I've already got that covered. She looked at me and asked how that could be possible. With a smile, I told her she'll find out when the time comes.
I knew without a doubt I would never go perfume-less. (The horrors!) And I know she will swoop in and smell me to check. (Like a hawk.) And when that day arrives, I'll either be wearing True Love or Love's Baby Soft, because both remind me of a baby's fresh skin, the delicate aroma of a freshly powdered infant, which will be my first grandchild. And that will sincerely be True Love for me. Seeing and holding my first grandbaby.

This is true love
To elaborate on this, I need to go back a bit:

It's the late 90s, and I already had a pronounced preference for fragrances and was collecting perfumes, albeit on a small scale given the financial means of a high school graduate. Additionally, I was experiencing my first great love, which, as you can easily guess, turned out to be the first big flop. However, at that time, still floating in the feeling of infatuation, I was looking for a scent that would make me seem a little more mature, more feminine, since the object of my affection was considerably older (and as it turned out after the end of the love haze, even older than stated) than my youthfulness. Thus, I needed a fragrant maturation, which I found in Elizabeth Arden's True Love.
And indeed, it worked, at least in my nose, because on one hand, I found the scent somehow attractive, felt more grown-up, enveloped in this fruity-floral-powdery aura, while on the other hand, it simply felt (still) not quite right for me. Just too grown-up, too mature, and not youthful enough.
Time passed, the love dream turned into a love nightmare, the pain was great, and it took a long time to heal. And to return to my actual age. Consequently, the scent had to go, especially since at some point I could no longer stand it, even developing headaches just from smelling it. Surely the psyche can do quite a bit in such matters; who knows what kind of headache it might have been.

Now, years later, I rediscover True Love. And I am thrilled. Because now it smells just right, it feels fitting, grown-up, mature, but not too grown-up and not too mature, like a woman, not a young girl. And it is free from the negative aftertaste of the past, simply smelling wonderful of warm apricot and velvety peach, underlined by the sweetness of vanilla, with a hint of rose and a touch of powderiness from the iris.

In short: I like it. Very much indeed.
The man has long since disappeared, the scent is back in my heart.
This is indeed true love!

We are searching for true love...
Inside me is an old aunt, and that has been the case since early childhood!
With enthusiasm, I always observed my grandma's acquaintances, their hats and suits; yes, I am that old: in my childhood, the more elegant women wore suits, so two-pieces: a blazer and a skirt made from the same fabric. Along with jewelry, everything was carefully observed, registered, and noted in my memory.
Often, these women wore old suits from the sixties, including my grandma, who sewed herself or wore the things she received from her two sisters from West Germany (I only lived in West Poland...). The glasses, the cuts, even hairstyles, all had a sixties flair.
I was fascinated by that! Even back then, the old photos, the old loud and evenly ticking clocks, ancient dressers, chairs, everything was much better than the ugly products made in communist Poland.

True Love originates from the early nineties but exudes the aura I described at the beginning: older ladies, old ambiance, roses, lace, and the atmosphere of something past, yet dear and calm. A bit stuffy, yet simply effortlessly beautiful.
True Love is creamy, powdery, floral, hyacinth (oh how I love it!) plus ylang-ylang, vanilla, and iris, I would guess, without looking at the fragrance pyramid.
What positively surprised me about this perfume: the lightness. Despite the somewhat dusty, old-fashioned components, True Love does not overwhelm us or our surroundings, considering its year of release!
At first, I didn't find the scent so pleasant; on my skin, it smelled like old rubber, old light latex gloves. Sprayed in the hair, it works differently: mainly floral, creamy, subtle, yet thanks to the hyacinth, True Love has a signature, something attractive, noticeable.
The scent smells old-fashioned; it's just a hint, but it doesn't bother me; somehow, True Love is quite pleasant to wear, it is cuddly, comfortable, and light, but I feel the presence of this Eau de Toilette all day long.
When I was young, I was searching for true love; it came differently back then... Many disappointments, pain, insecurity, tears... in short: a dramatic overkill! True love, however, is different: cuddly, calm, light, and very pleasant to (bear) wear ;)
Many thanks to a lovely perfumer who recently sent me a sweet surprise package, with everything that does good for the ailing soul: chocolate and perfumes, among which I also found a small sample of True Love.

I dreamt of powder and iris notes but reality presented me with a very sharp and dominant rose. It lasted too long on skin for me to bear!

Tacky-sweet on the edge of pain:
the caricature of a wedding scent all in white
in Las Vegas, drunk,
she 44, he 22.
What's love?

Unmistakably Sophia Grojsman! Delicate, powdery, floral, light pink. A candidate for a blind buy. Reminds me of her Diamonds & Rubies. I like both.

A journey into the past. My grandma smelled so wonderfully creamy. Wonderful! THE cream scent of all. I find nothing powdery here.

Ah Lisbeth, what a fluffy, delicious little scent. For a small price, it has everything; it smells fruity-fresh, nicely creamy, and it's good! I like it!
