About nothing or the function of the number zero.
After spraying my rather dry skin, a flush of flowers unfolds with the vegetative force of an exploding seed capsule. A production of extravagant
Exuberance that absorbs all the attention. Everything is immediately apparent, from jasmine and orange blossoms to tuberose in a combination of tolubalsam and vanilla. The fragrance presents itself with the density of a Moorish ribbon of ornaments, all aspects are interwoven and linked. The sight of the red shimmering Alhambra at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, flamenco dancers whose individual steps the eye can no longer see because of the speed, the flying skirts of the dancers and their ornate, graceful hand movements, which remind one of the calligraphic wall decoration of the private living rooms of the Emir in the city fortress. Mosaics, long water basins with a motionless surface that form an extension of the garden like mirrors. Small fountains everywhere whose cheerful splashes despite the heat maintain the confidence. The streets of Albaicin are crowded with people, the bazaars are full of trade goods from all over the world: gold from Africa, spices from the Arab world empire, silk bales from Italy and France, woollen cloth and linen from Bruges and Ghent and much more. From the synagogue you can hear the rabbi with his pupils and in the monastery church you get ready for the hourly prayer. The prosperous Granada is the most beautiful city in the world. Science and arts as well as master crafts flourish.
But suddenly: a break.
After about four seconds nothing is as it was, the flowers have almost completely disappeared, in the distance on the horizon even tolu and vanilla can only be seen with the telescope. There is silence in minor.
Granada anno 1492 to the first:
After months of siege, the Emir of Granada surrenders the city to the "Catholic Monarchs" Isabel of Castile and Léon and the husband Ferdinand II of Aragon and goes into exile. This marks the end of almost 800 years of Moorish-Arab rule in Spain, as Granada is the last Muslim enclave. Jews and Christians, as followers of an equally monotheistic religion, enjoyed a protective status in the Caliphate Al-Andalus, one therefore speaks of the "Convivencia", the era of the coexistence of these three religions.
Granada anno 1492 second:
In the so-called Alhambra Edict, the Catholic Monarchs order the expulsion of the Jews.
Granada anno 1492 to the third:
Despite his exorbitant demands, Christopher Columbus now receives from the Catholic Monarchs the financing and a kind of license agreement for the trip to India. He and his family are assured a plethora of rights and privileges in the event of a successful trip.
So colonialism takes its course; for centuries it will have the opportunity to develop its most ugly grimaces, and in its shadow slavery eats its way into the souls of men.
Back to the fragrance: The way he presents himself to me he is not suitable as a perfume because of his instability.
But maybe I will perfume a lace handkerchief with him where I can sniff while reading or pondering.... And in the summer, the fan gets a taste of it.
