fresh decay
more fresh on the opening than i anticipated- crisp forest air in the morning dew, fog still among the pine. petrichor, pine, and earth. as it develops, settles into decay in a similar fashion to leaves themselves. the soil notes and decayed leaves become more prominent, and the scent becomes more dryer as though stepping on and crunching dried leaves. dries into something earthy, woody, and green. however, this process happens relatively quickly, and the oil base has the scent start enormously strong but quickly become intimate. faint, though that could be personal habituation, but it was disappointing to fade so fast.

Sharing in a Different Way: A Walk Through the First Notes in the Moderately Disgusting* Forest
Normally, I test a fragrance multiple times before writing a comment, but here I make an exception. However, there is no complete comment, just unfiltered first thoughts and notes that have crossed my mind about this scent:

from the natural fragrance line. "November in the moderately disgusting* forest" - funny name, but a bit over the top and somewhat convoluted esoteric talk on the company website.

Scent: Uuuh. Difficult to describe. It scratches a bit in the throat at first. Very dark, humid, earthy. Mushroomy. Definitely unisex, not feminine at all, not even a bit. Green, dark green and unclear, foggy. Close to the skin. Woody. Hardly any sillage? Tea? I don’t know - where? Somehow I still see the color gray. VERY hard to grasp, to describe. In any case, interesting and (for me, mind you) wearable, but difficult, not necessarily easily accessible. Yes, a kind of neroli could be there, but not as a top note that gradually fades away, rather right in the middle and somehow: scratchy.

A clearing at the edge of the forest in the wet morning dew, the day has not yet arrived, overcast and nebulous. Sweetness, if at all, I only smell very subtly. I can’t really detect anything truly resinous, at most I can sense it. In any case, it scratches my throat. Not feminine in the usual sense at all. I could even imagine that some ladies would rather categorize it as masculine.

There’s something irritating in there, in the sense of being allergenic. My throat tightens a little, and I’ve never experienced that before in this way. Not much, but just a bit and only at the beginning, it fades over time.

It changes, slowly but steadily. NOW. Now something tea-like emerges. Now there’s sweetness too. YES, now there’s definitely tea, black mixed with green plus a little firewood smoke, very subtle. Definitely interesting.

In the fresh air, outside, while wandering around, the scent gains incredible momentum, really opens up and delivers everything it has. It’s a very warm day, almost too hot, and the scent accompanies me, doesn’t leave my side. Now it becomes sweeter and also more feminine, but not exaggerated. And it keeps getting sweeter and more feminine, but not TOO sweet, not grotesque, but pleasant. Beautifully sweet. Cozy and comfortable. The scent is fun in its development, it’s exciting! From a scratchy brush to a cuddly brush. Now also resins. Coming home after a walk, a long walk, a varied one. BEAUTIFUL!

The scent has a PHENOMENAL longevity (12+ hours) and undergoes an incredible transformation! Initially dark green-earthy and mushroomy-gray, over time the tea blooms, increasingly enriched with slightly fiery smoke, and towards the end, the scent becomes softer, more resinous, more cuddly! Really, really great! In the end, it’s cotton-soft-smoky-resinous, a bit like arriving and resting. It fades away very quietly, with a whisper. This surprised me so much (also the longevity!) and completely thrilled me! Wonderful! Really, really great! I would love to apply it again right away, but since there’s so little of it, I’ll probably wait until everyone has had a chance to try it, and if there’s anything left, I’ll provide a comment! Wonderful scent, simply W O N D E R F U L !!

This is Type O Negative’s song “Haunted” in perfume form. The gold standard of petrichor scents.

Forest floors breathe rain mist
Where my heart sleeps in damp leaves
For a November long
So cold
The tea
In the forgotten cup

Autumn weather
before the frost
The bark
is wrapped in resin
From soft earth
gentle smoke rises...

There is still a last hint of green.
Resin drips like balm
onto steaming forest floor.
From my wood, smoke will rise,
said the tree.

The wood feels quite fresh, the smoked tea like a patina, with resinous notes, but more as a base tone. Quite nice.

That's too little and too simple for me. The smoky tea barely comes through, resins and subtle wood dominate the scent profile. It's okay...

To me, it doesn't really smell like an autumn forest. More like a soft-spicy, slightly bitter tea that I would love to drink.

Quite a lot of bright wood and indeed: a teen note appears: green, woody, slightly earthy, pleasantly spicy and smoky.

Resins, woods, a green bush, and then smoky softness. Beautiful, interesting, but somehow not a scent for me personally.
