Multifaceted island blend, a good amount of resins, sharpness, sweetness, and freshness
First proper sampling of Goldfield & Banks Island Lush, an aptly-named multifaceted blend that conjures a tropical experience without leaning too heavily on tropes. To my nose, it’s at the intersection of most typical categories and has a lot going on. I think it actually ends up being fresh and resinous more than any other categories, but it has sweet, fruity, floral, musky, woody, and spicy aspects.

Its full note list tells a fittingly complex story: bergamot, pink pepper, nutmeg, and ginger in the vibrant, bright opening; geranium, guaiac, and cedar wood in the spicy, woody heart; and sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, benzoin, and even leather in the more resinous-leaning base. There is surely a lot going on here, and I enjoy the tightrope being walked between sharp and smooth aspects, with a healthy use of benzoin and patchouli at the center, in my opinion.

It does transport me to an island but without being a tropical fruity/floral blend (though those are often quite nice, as well). It has some gravitas and density, and performs quite well. Island Lush has the same retail pricing as the rest of the Botanical Series, at $240/47 for 100/10ml, and as with the entire house, I love the option of the 10ml size, as there are several such fragrances from the house that I would love to try more in the 10ml size prior to committing to a 100ml bottle.

Can wear it anytime of day but especially afternoon
Goldfield & Banks Island Lush is a versatile fragrance that showcases its leathery undertones in a subtle yet impactful manner. Its longevity is impressive, and a small application can go a long way. While it may not be the ideal choice for a formal evening event, it shines as a unisex fragrance perfect for casual outings where you want to make a pleasant impression without overwhelming the room. Its flexibility and understated charm make it a valuable addition to any fragrance collection.

Another interesting leather from Australia!
Like Silky Woods and Purple Suede, this is a very solid release from Goldfield & Banks. I like how G&B integrates leather into their fragrances from the Botanical Series in a very lively and refreshing way.

After the first sniff in my trusted perfumery, I was a bit disappointed, as I had imagined a completely different scent based on the name. However, the lady at the perfumery kindly gave me a small sample to take home so I could try the fragrance at my leisure. Done!

After letting the scent develop on my skin for a bit longer, I must admit that the name does fit in some way. If I had to associate the scent with an image, I would picture a gentleman in Oud and a lady in leather, who are currently enjoying an all-inclusive vacation at a Caribbean resort. Not a luxury-class vacation, but rather a cozy, cheerful holiday with water polo and poolside gymnastics. Sun, good vibes, and screaming children.

As with Purple Suede, a beautiful leather is refreshed by bright aromas here. I distinctly perceive ginger, pepper, and nutmeg in the opening. These are accompanied by a woody leather. I do not smell vetiver and oud at all during the initial phase. However, I prefer the creamy suede from Purple Suede a bit more.

After about 30 minutes, the fragrance becomes noticeably creamier and loses its initial liveliness.
A dry, very woody, and not at all challenging oud note comes into play. Since I know the fragrance pyramid, I fancy that I can now also detect the vetiver :D
All in all, a very interesting scent that fits perfectly into the Botanical Series.
As fans of Purple Suede or Silky Woods, you should definitely test this fragrance!
However, since I incredibly love the suede note from PS and would rather reach for it in every conceivable situation, Island Lush (probably) won't be joining my collection.

H/S is okay for a leather/oud scent, but not great...

the golden statement...
Given the name, one might expect the scent to smell like coconut, creamy, piña colada, like the sea or sunscreen.

Not at all! It comes around spicy and resinous. Not a holiday island but survival. With a light leather note that occasionally tickles the nose.

I chose this one among 10 other good scents in one of the oldest perfumeries in Salzburg. Why? Because it simply has something unique that I haven't smelled before.

Upon spraying, you can see the high oil content on the skin. The performance is not outstanding but still perceptible for a good 6 hours. On clothing, easily 48 hours. The sillage doesn't fill a room but is well noticeable at arm's length.

At €200 in-store, it's certainly a statement. However, anyone looking for a one-of-a-kind should give this scent a chance.

I must say I can't quite understand the negative reviews.

Powdery-woody (sandalwood & iris), a bit sweet (ginger), leather not prominent imo. Very plain scent as a whole. Masculine, fall-spring.

Floral woody leather. Not as offensive as Silky Woods but still has that sterile, air freshener GP clinic vibe

A generic leather scent. Nothing island or lush about it. I don't get it...

Many woods, a bit of resin and leather, which unfortunately has a slightly musty touch for me, make up this scent. Basically, I like +

A really beautiful suede scent with great, woody creaminess. It's nicely spiced too, with a little touch of rose on top. I like it!

Woody-leathery scent with plenty of power, might seem a bit overwhelming at first. Beautiful, cozy base of benzoin & sandalwood.

A very fine suede handbag with peppery flowers inside. Oud is hardly noticeable, but there's a tingling sandalwood. Yummy!
